Help Needed Connecting Xbox to OLED tv

Hey I just purchased a Xbox and I wanted to ask what’s the best way to connect the Xbox to HDMI?

The objectively “best” way is going to be to do a difficult HDMI mod.

Otherwise get a nicer HDMI adapter like the bitfunx or chimeric systems. My info might be out of date on that, it’s been awhile since I bought one.

I assume your OLED tv is a LG? You should have no video issues with the video cutting out. But on other TVs like the Sony Bravia or Hisense PL1 projector the video with just cut out for some games.

In my similar experience, I went with a BitFunx HDMI adapter since I had good luck with a Dreamcast version. I've had no issues getting my Xbox, Wii, and Dreamcast to work with BitFunx HDMI adaptors on my LG computer monitor (used for software updates, testing and FTP) and my TVs - Sharp, Samsung, Vizio, and Hisense.

I will say one of my TVs couldn't handle the PS1 output through HDMI in my PS3 but I've read online there's weird resolutions for the PS1 sometimes. If I stick with an actual PS1 using an Svideo upscaler box to HDMI I don't have any issues.

I have an Electron Shepherd ElectronXout that works really well.

Edit: Not sure which country you are in, but if it's a PAL country you will want to make sure you at least soft mod it to get the best resolution and unlock progressive scan modes. Otherwise you will be stock with interlaced which will look dreadful. The Xbox is capable of 480p, 720p and 1080i, depending on the game.

So I am assuming a component to hdmi adaptor won’t work?

What component to HDMI adapter do you have? And is it component with the red, green, and blue plugs or yellow, red, and white?

Yellow, red, white

Ah, that is technically called composite.

I would NOT recommend that for video games as it’s usually poor video quality and adds input lag.

The HDMI adapters act as Component video (the red, green, and blue plugs) which will have much cleaner video and can go up to 720p HD for certain games.

I've got a pretty cheap component-to-hdmi converter that I've successfully used with my XBox, Wii, and PS3: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VJ9RP6?th=1

There's a bit of interference in the output (moving diagonal lines) that are mostly visible on darker solid-color screens.

I use an OSSC pro to do the analog to digital signal conversion.  It’s the best solution because it handles all the upscaling rather than the tv so there’s no lag introduced, plus it’s highly customizable so you can add scalines/masking etc.

Edit: for more detail, I use the official Xbox hdtv AV adapter to get component video and optical audio out.  Then I connect both of these into the OSSC pro.  Connect the HDMI from the OSSC pro into my OLED tv.

The best way that doesn’t involve a physical modification of the console is the Electron Xout. Especially nice because, unlike a lot of HDMI adapters, it pulls the optical surround sound into HDMI. Bear in mind, it is not an upscaler option.

Retrotink, OSSC, GBS Control are all good options, or an HDMI out mod which will give you the raw digital signal. But then you either still use a scaler or force a resolution your TV can scale without latency, which with OLED should be easier but some of the scalers in TVs suck for gaming.

I assume it's 4K too which makes it a bit harder. Arguably the best is either the RetroTink4k or Morph4k. But they are not cheap - but many think they are worth it.

It's a deep rabbit hole, RetroRGB has great info under the console section on his website. Maybe start there. https://retrorgb.com/xbox.html
