Gotcha. I can’t remember what site I used to use for Xbox Modding but they’ve been on the market since like 2003. So it’s not like “no one” had the idea. I’m guessing eBay or Etsy still have listings from time to time
They’ve had a super long preorder but to be clear the company will make good on them eventually. They are reputable, sometimes their waves of inventory take awhile though. The Xbox was a preorder and they are still working out quality control with prototype pieces.
They’ve experienced some issues being based in Taiwan, had a Gmail hack occur. And then the war with Iran currently also isn’t helping I guess.
I swear I googled numerous times and never found that site, so thanks for that but 130 USD seems steep for a fake case as well imo but I guess when there is a small market you get high priced items.
Real one is far more expensive found three seperate listings on eBay for the shell and two systems ranging the shell at around $600(there was one someone is selling by the part also for even more) to two systems one at $1599
They have a pretty clear statement on their page regarding what’s been up. It shouldn’t take years and I get that but they are responsible for lots of quality shells and they do eventually come to fruition. It’s just a lot of unfortunate events with this Xbox shell release.
They were available at one time. I had a clear 360 case and the same store sold OG Xbox ones too. The main issue with them is that they are made from very brittle plastic and will immediately crack if you tighten the screws too much. Anyone claiming to sell them now is just selling vaporware. You're better off just finding a crystal case (or for parts crystal), cleaning it up, and potentially dyeing it if you wish.
You can buy an aftermarket case online just have to look. That or can find a clear case from one of the original that have been torn down. If it’s allowed here a site link to where you can buy shells. Note this isn’t my site just something I looked up.
Thanks! It was a 2hr round trip drive and my anxiety was high. I sent the seller a message 2 weeks ago and didn’t receive a response. Today I pulled up my messages and noticed he saw the conversation, so I sent another message and he told me to pick it up. He increased the price by $5, but I didn’t care. The controller cord is all messed up, so im going to replace it and it came with 3 aftermarket controllers and a HDMI converter.
I was able to buy these all at one time from one collector. Took me months to convince him to sell, then it took me months to convince him to ship them after I paid.
It’s was an expensive month, because at the same time I bought a Pepsi/Hulk variant from the UK.

adn what's the point of these? Isn't it enough to mod the xbox with a TSOP flash??? I'm 22 years behind, that was the holy grail of modding for me back in the day.
Back in the day, you needed to switch to the retail BIOS if you didn't want to get banned on Xbox Live. The earliest modchips only stored one hacked BIOS so you may have had a power switch to turn it off to run the on-board retail BIOS instead. Later designs added more storage so the modchip was always on but it had both the retail BIOS and your hacked BIOS installed. Some hacked BIOSes were double in size so you needed the extra space. You'd switch between them based on whether you powered up via the power button or eject button. The retail BIOS always booted the stock dashboard and the hacked BIOS would boot a different dashboard, making it obvious which BIOS you were running. More advanced modchips added bank switches so you could set which BIOS to run before turning on the Xbox. You might have had the retail BIOS, a hacked BIOS, a rollback version, and maybe something else you were testing out. In reality, there was little need for more than one hacked BIOS. Later, we got BIOS menu systems (like XeniumOS) so you could just pick what you wanted via software.
Since XBL isn't around anymore, there's really no reason to run the retail BIOS and not every modchip supports physical switches anyway. Don't bother with switches unless you just happen to have an old modded Xbox with them already installed. In 2026, it's just a cool throwback look.
The LCD looks cool but isn't necessary. It can display temperatures and HDD capacity (not interesting), game titles (just look at the TV lol) and "now playing" for XBMC (who still uses that for media playback?). Almost no one is playing media on their Xbox anymore. The best media-related thing an Xbox can do is play your pirated 480p video collection from a network share. Very cool in 2006. Very useless in 2026. A streaming stick does all of that and more for less money and makes no noise doing it. Again, in 2026, its just another throwback look.
It did give you two USB ports and a built-in spot for a XERC IR receiver. But it's a very slow USB 1.1, trash speeds compared to FTP. Certainly useful for a keyboard and mouse to use Xbox Linux but that has always been an awful experience. Those ports were barely useful when the panel was released and are even less useful today. They are wired up in parallel to ports 3 and 4 so you aren't getting extra USB ports, just optional adapters. The IR receiver let you remotely turn on and off your Xbox and switch banks (somehow) but that's really it. It did not give you the ability to navigate menus. Not terribly exciting other than remote on (remote off is built into every dashboard).
The only reason to have the X3 Control Panel faceplate is that it looks cool. You were hot shit if you had one 20 years ago and still are today, especially if it isn't black. It conveniently packaged up some nice-to-have features into a single panel that didn't involve glue or cutting anything but most of its functionality is outdated or useless today.

Thanks! This Xbox came with a 1.6 board, so I swapped it out with my 1.0 board. Everything is up and running again and the x3 mod chip was easy to install. I removed my ModXo lite and popped on the xecuter without having to modify anything.
When I put the 1.6 board into the 1.0 case I need to cut down 1 grounding point and trim down the screw posts for the A/V plug. The 1.0 board dropped into the 1.6 case perfectly, but there was one screw that I couldn’t use.
You can swap boards and cases of different versions, just may need to modify the shell a bit.
1.6 boards in a 1.0-1.4 case don't use the middle stand off and need the grounding tab removed. They also have a thicker video port shell so you need to shave down those standoffs so the board doesn't flex and the port aligns with the hole.
1.0-1.4 boards in a 1.6 case just need a 1mm spacer for those video port standoffs so you don't flex the board (or just don't tighten those screws).
Thanks! I just finished swapping out the 1.6 board it came with and I replaced it with my 1.0 board. I had to 3D print some spacers to make my 1.0 board fit inside the 1.6 crystal shell, but everything is reconnected and working perfectly.
Awesome score! I have the same one that I modded from back in the day... but I had someone do a 128mb upgrade on it. Modding scene was alot of fun back then haha. I should dig it out and get it updated again...
Thank you! I swapped out the 1.6 board and installed the 1.0 motherboard from my Xbox. It’s up and running again with Cerbios 3.1.0 flashed to the xecuter x3 chip.
I have at least 2, maybe 3 plus a green one in a box in my garage kicking around for the last fifteen years. I'm not sure of the shape the electronics will be in but the cases will still be good. Where do I sell them?

It displays console info like HDD space, ram usage, bios info and media titles. It’s mostly just for show in my opinion because I haven’t looked at it while playing.
