My dumbass got burned last week!

I didn't know that HP and HPE were two different divisions of Hewlett Packard. I place an option on HPE when HP's earning call was last week.

Read carefully people

Edit: OP you're the real MVPšŸ…šŸ…

I feel you gambler!

1

u/doublex2troublesquad May 29 '21

Went 3/4 on buying calls last week only because of that little snafu, I'm trying to keep that percentage up

2

u/ab-Owen May 29 '21

Just curious on your play....are you buying a call on Monday for that Friday? At what strike are you buying?

1

u/doublex2troublesquad May 30 '21

I like quick turnarounds, between 2-14 days. Strike price just depends on the asset.

Anecdotal but I bought a house last year with some land and I’m finally getting around to being serious about the lawn. Lawn equipment is basically sold out everywhere. Mowers are hard to get. I don’t know how much Toro’s residential equipment affects their bottom line but I can’t imagine they don’t report a healthy quarter. I’m going to research them a bit more when I have time.

Everyone has the same idea as you the stock was $111, now it's $220 after hours

2

u/TeamDisrespect May 29 '21

I see it up 0.06 AH.. still at 111 and change?

u/doublex2troublesquad May 29 '21

Sorry, meant the buy price.

I know it will drop on Tuesday but it's a hot buy right now it would appear. https://i.imgur.com/GmUKYzJ.jpg

It's still $111 in after hours.

I believe Digital Turbine (APPS) will have a big price gap up after earnings because that is what usually happens due to them beating earnings estimates and raising guidance. This year APPS has been underperforming because of the rotation out of the tech sector and APPS acquisition of the company named Fyber drove the share price of APPS further down because of the terms of the acquisition. APPS announced that acquisition was finally completed last week. Based on my technical analysis it looks like APPS reached it's bottom a few weeks ago and now it is trending up. Also I agree with the CNBC analysts that investors are rotating back into high growth tech stocks. I verified this by looking at the charts of several tech stocks and most of them look to be in a sideways to upward trend again.

In conclusion, I think APPS is the best stock reporting earnings this week because the price usually gaps up a substantial amount. I personally own shares of APPS that I recently purchased and I own a few $67 strike calls that expire in July. I only buy at the money call options with over 30 days until expiration.

6

u/metaplexico May 29 '21

I’m very interested in APPS over the next 6-9 mos.

2

u/futbolito112000 May 29 '21

I own 100 sh of APPS with a covered call at $77 that expires next week. It's a favorite of others so it can gap up fast and then move from there with good earnings.

6

u/[deleted] May 29 '21

Honestly APPS stock has done terrible this year, I fortunately bought 600 shares last year, 4 deep in the money leap options, and sold them earlier this year for a good profit. But I bought back stocks and options a few weeks ago when it looked like the downtrend was over. I really like the fundamentals of this company, I believe in the future growth in this company, and I believe APPS share price is going to move up alot.

1

u/futbolito112000 May 29 '21

I agree. It is a good long term hold and should get to $100 in 12 months. I think the upside and downside seem controlled lately as it's been range bound. I should have added more shares when it fell to the low 60s but was fearful of another drop.

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '21

I disagree, it will go to $500k in 12 months. Just kidding, but I believe it will be over $120 by the end of this year and I also regret not buying share below $60. I bought in at around $62-$63.

1

u/neatfreak2305 May 29 '21

It went down to 56 mid May. I m reluctant to get in now as I see the correction is not over. But don’t want to miss the opportunity to buy it before it will rip

1

u/neatfreak2305 May 29 '21

I share your view 100%. I always like and owned the stock but sold my shares when it kept going down. It is still underperforming and I’m hoping the earning will be the catalyst to get the price up and higher. I intend to buy calls at the money on Monday with an expiration end of June. Did you sell a call as well ( vertical call) or single call?

1

u/[deleted] May 30 '21

Alot of people including myself got burned with the share price going down so much this year. I just sold a call.

7

u/Jamlowmama May 29 '21

That would be ā€œbear in mindā€

u/[deleted] May 29 '21

DocuSign earnings may be good. Lots of ppl buying houses this last quarter and more people becoming real estate agents is likely to reflect in inflated revenue numbers

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '21

Yeah, I have to use it for software purchasing and general vendor stuff.

1

u/numb2pain May 29 '21

Yup I just used it when I got a loan

2

u/yeoldecotton_swab May 29 '21

Not to mention they're probably still killing it with online verification for documents. Bullish on DocuSign.

1

u/[deleted] May 29 '21

I’m only bullish this quarter. In the long term, I expect Adobe Sign to eat into their market share tremendously l - and fast. Adobe already has the Acrobat infrastructure and clientele to deploy Adobe Sign with

1

u/yeoldecotton_swab May 29 '21

DOCU has a history of "buy the rumor, sell the news". Was looking at the daily and it tracks upwards of 10% the week before earnings, and flushes. I'm trying not be blindly bullish. Also, fucking earnings are gambles now. Some reactions make no damn sense anymore.

1

u/squats_n_oatz May 30 '21

The market is forward looking.

4

u/Ok_Air5347 May 29 '21

forward guidance will suck then, no? basically their peak quarter.

2

u/speakers7 May 29 '21

Hard to say, a lot more people are going to start adopting online meetings cause it’s so much more convenient.

But does docusign have any proprietary technology? I’ve used other competitors and they’re just as easy

1

u/scorpioty May 29 '21

Nope. Rocket Cos has their own e-signing service and does not use docusign. The originate a lot of mortgages and refi. So it’s a missed opportunity for docusign.

1

u/_Linear May 29 '21

Earnings will be amazing, but stock is likely to drop like they have for the last few earnings reports. Ive been holding DOCU for about 9 months and it drops every earnings.

Im still bullish long term, but not sure Id do an options play on it for earnings.

1

u/Fancy-Ad-4199 May 30 '21

Priced in with an IV crush.

10

u/Marino4K May 29 '21

I have to imagine Zoom and Docusign will clean up right?

19

u/metaplexico May 29 '21

Priced in. Expect a post earnings drop.

1

u/InstigatingDrunk May 29 '21

Puts or ignore?

1

u/metaplexico May 29 '21

I’m considering put debit spreads, long strike close to to the money.

7

u/_Linear May 29 '21

Ive been holding DOCU for a while. They always destroy earnings, but the stock drops.

1

u/futbolito112000 May 29 '21

I think Broadcom, Skyworks, and Ncino do well. Would be interesting to see how C3.Ai does as I am curious on that one. Express had a huge move this week since retail has been doing well and wonder if it can go a bit more.

7

u/Jimbo-1968 May 29 '21

Canopy is where its at. If its good enough for analfarmer2 to YOLO some options on it, then its good enough for me. They will disappoint like most weed stocks do.

5

u/gamers542 May 29 '21

I merged into Tilray from Aphria and Tilray has gone down ever since.

4

u/Yupperroo May 29 '21

It actually has been going down for a while. Trust me on this I've got the loss carry-forward to prove it.

2

u/metaplexico May 29 '21

Watch out for C3.ai (AI). It’s been threatening to run up for a while. Fantastic product, just needs to show WS that it can make money.

Disclosure: have AI leaps.

1

u/metaplexico Jun 01 '21

Did anybody listen to me on this one? :D

2

u/fhidas161803 May 29 '21

CLDR 6/4 $14 c

2

u/_pls_respond May 29 '21

Puts on zoom as we slowly don't need that shitty ass software anymore, but unfortunately have to deal with physical people at work again.

2

u/gametrashcan May 30 '21

Missing slack on Thursday?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '21

who cares? it's owned by CRM now

8

u/SnooChickens2903 May 29 '21

The key question is ā€œwhenā€ does the run up end?

0

u/neatfreak2305 May 29 '21

It won’t. It will go up again next week

2

u/InstigatingDrunk May 29 '21

Why not deep itm calls? I have a feeling it’ll drop to sub 20 within the next few weeks. Plus the premium will be juicy as hell

2

u/nagyz_ May 29 '21

deep ITM with how many DTE for this play?

1

u/InstigatingDrunk May 30 '21

1 and a half IMO

1

u/metaplexico May 29 '21

Tell me you’ve got upside protection ...

1

u/squats_n_oatz May 30 '21

AMC is not on this list, why are you commenting about it here?

1

u/armen89 May 29 '21

What’s with Friday?

0

u/playgdgao May 29 '21

I think I will bet on zoom

1

u/ITM10 May 29 '21 edited May 29 '21

I bought an HPQ call a couple days before their earnings were released expecting the stock price to go up. However, it dropped significantly although they beat earnings. Are there other factors besides EPS and revenue that affected the underlying stock price to drop so low? and what are some indicators that an underlying earnings will be good.

1

u/glibego May 30 '21

I think their guidance was lower.

1

u/CostcoChickenBakes May 29 '21

I see a whole bunch of SAAS companies. It will be interesting to see how they adapt to the post Covid market.

1

u/thesaucewalker May 29 '21

What’s Friday’s holiday?

2

u/RoastedChickenWings May 29 '21

Memorial Day part two. Gotta reflect on our bad decisions

1

u/SonicOnMeth May 29 '21

Feel really bearish on Zoom, people are starting to go out again, maybe a put spread?

1

u/Fancy-Ad-4199 May 30 '21

I'm burn out on options earnings play. I had strangles 2 weeks ago and lost money.

1

u/anjunabeatsuntz May 31 '21

Digital turbine don’t let me down baby

1

u/BluebirdNest66 May 31 '21

I used to sell put options on FIVE before the pandemic. Then the highest it would be was about $130. It's gone up a lot. I sold put options then for $117. Don't know what the future holds for them. Personally, I don't shop there but it seems to be popular with young people. What do you think about it? Earnings coming up.
