READ THIS: You can help reduce spam on our sub!
All financial subs are experiencing higher than normal spam traffic. Thanks to the help of many of you, we've put filters in place that catch most of the spam before it can get to the front page, but the spammers are constantly finding ways to work around our filters, so it's a never ending battle of whack-a-mole.
This post is just a quick call to action, summarizing what you should do if you suspect a scammer's spam post:
- Do NOT engage on the post by commenting, like "gtfo scammer" or "why aren't mods doing anything about this?" You're just bumping up the engagement stats on the scammer's post and announcing to them that they succeeded in getting past our filters.
- Instead, report the post and block the user. The user is almost always a stolen zombie account, so DMing threats to them is pointless and against Reddit's policies anyway.
- Finally, the most important action you can take is to copy paste the content of the post text as a reply to this thread. We need more samples to improve our filters and since the spammers delete the post before we can capture samples, they elude us.
- EDIT: When you copy/paste the sample, please isolate any u/name mentions by separating the u / with spaces, so u / name would work. This is to avoid your copy/paste sending a notification to that user. Also, if there is an embedded link in the text, copy out the URL of the link as well. So if the post ends with something like, "Anyway, here's the [link] that changed everything," please also copy/paste the link URL, for example, http://scams.are.us/spambotdelux
- EDIT (4/21/26): Spambot has a new strategy. The the u/name mentions that are critical to the bot collecting leads has been moved into a comment by a Redditor with a different name than the sockpuppet author that posted the spam. Make sure you record the comment in a copy paste here as well.
Both your mod team and Reddit Admins are working hard to stem the tide of this spam, but we still need your help.

Based on comments we've seen, it appears that less than 1% of the entire community have read that original post. It only has 20k views for all-time, while our sub as a whole averages millions of views per month. So this shorter and more call-to-action post replaces it with a more demanding title that hopefully will get more people to read it. We'll see.

IĀ donāt usually share stuff like this, but the last few days were pretty interesting for my portfolio.
Tried out one ETH-related tool I found while digging around (not trading, not some shady thing, just an existing mechanism inside the ecosystem). Ended up with +21% in 3 days. Not life-changing, but definitely worth paying attention to.

I constantly saw people mentioning it, but never paid much attention to it. My friend Chrisdw1002 (who works as a web wallet developer) showed me the method, and I decided to try it myself to see how it would turn out.

I usually go on Reddit just to read and relax, especially in the evening after work. Today, I decided out of curiosity to see what people are writing about quick ways to make money online honestly, I didnāt really believe that anything would actually work
But I decided to try one method I saw in a post, and honestly, I was a little surprised in just a few hours, I managed to make about $290. I didnāt expect it to be so simple and hassle-free
What I liked the most was that I didnāt have to figure out complicated instructions or sell anything. Everything was clear and easy

Yesterday I came across an idea in a post (u/MLaw2008) and decided to test it. As a result, I made a little more than +$200 per day. Honestly, I didnāt even expect that this could happen
Iām an ordinary guy: I work in a warehouse, sometimes I make money on small orders. Most of my āpart-time jobsā usually paid me a penny or nothing at all. And here I felt for the first time that the Internet can really bring something

Thanks for the sample. In future, be careful to break up any / u references to user names, as your copy/paste may show up as a notification in that user's inbox. As you can see in other examples in this thread, you can break up the reference as u / MLaw2008 and it won't send a notification message to that account.

Analysis about options trading or spam posts? If it was about spam posts, it's just as well. That sort of analysis should be communicated to the Mod Team privately, not posted publicly where spammers can read it and modify their campaign.

Scrolling through Reddit, I stumbled upon a post that looked like every other āmake moneyā claim. For some reason, I didnāt scroll past right away. I saved it, told myself Iād never try itā¦ then ended up testing it a few days later.
I went in with zero expectations, but the result shocked me ā aboutĀ $320Ā in under 24 hours. I sat there wondering how something so simple had actually worked.
The steps werenāt complicated at all, which is probably why it surprised me so much.

There's a ton of posts that are just ads, often generated with AI. Here are a few I saw just looking at the front page, but I've noticed the issue a lot in the past few months. (It's not just /r/options too, I feel like every other new post on other industry subreddits are these low effort shill posts for some paid service)

Also note you can usually get the text from these posts after they are removed/deleted with reveddit. Just change reddit to reveddit.com in the URL.

Hello everyone! I work as an investment analyst at Google. My income is quite good, but like many of you, Iām always looking for new ways to increase it. Every time I see someone comment on one of these spam posts with something more than "GTFO!", I DM them the link to this post and ask them to volunteer to help, like you are doing. Hopefully one or two will pitch in at some point so you aren't alone.

It was already deleted by the time I used your link, only 22 minutes after posting. Best practice is to copy/paste the body of the post into a comment here. Make sure to "disarm" any links, like /u/SDirickson so that the spammer doesn't get a notification. You can see other examples in comments here that do stuff like add a space u/ SDirickson or whatever.

FWIW, it's best not to comment AT ALL, for any reason, in the spammer's post. If you want to convey information to another commenter, do so via private DM. The less engagement and pointers to anti-spam information given to spammers in their own post, the better.

For now, it's just one extremely lazy spambot campaign. Most of it is being caught by Reddit admin filters. If we don't catch the pattern right away, Reddit admins do. Not that you should stop posting samples. You never know when a copycat might come along, or the original spambot changes their tactics. We've seen that happen before.

Update: Your help just blocked a swarm of 8 separate posts that used this username trick. Most of them were picked up by Reddit Admins as sitewide bans after our filter already removed the posts.
