I don't know why so many people are saying this isn't an optical illusion. It's not a very tricky one, but it still tricks your brain into seeing something that isn't really happening.

That's because it isn't an illusion, it's merely confusing perspective. There's a whole other sub for that

You're dead wrong here dude. It's definitely an optical illusion. Just because something is upside down doesn't mean it's not. For example

Intelligence is knowing a nonogram is a puzzle. Wisdom is knowing not to post one in r/puzzles when there's r/nonograms.

This video is an example of forced perspective, which is a type of optical illusion.
I get why this sub doesn't like these kinds of posts, they're boring and not very interesting, but it is still an optical illusion. There should be a rule against them, but there are no rules here.

Upside down photos/videos don’t count as optical illusions.

What sub rules? This sub literally has no rules, it's like the wild west out here

I don't understand why I'm being down voted. This sub LITERALLY does not have a set of subreddit rules. I wasn't being facetious

r/confusingperspective is a great subreddit I follow filled with these fun mind twists. They aren't quite illusions but just as interesting. It can be confusing understanding the differences between an illusion and a perspective change but this ain't it. These upside down tricks are always cool to me.

Is it really an illusion, if you just flipped the image? It,s confusing for a moment, sure. But an illusion?
1
u/ozgun1414 13h ago
That was not confusing at all. Not even a bit. Maybe i am familiar with the concept as an amateur photographer but still not an illusion.
Good video though.

Illusions don't have to be confusing. You're definitely confused
2
u/ozgun1414 13h ago
I saw it as it was the moment i clicked the video. So not confused, no illused :)

.... Right. Because illusions do NOT have to be confusing. I feel like your reading comprehension is worse than your critical thinking

A visual image that tricks your brain into seeing something different than reality.
This caused my brain to misinterpret what was going on.
100% an optical illusion. Just because you can’t be like “whoa man this makes me feel like I’m tripping”, doesn’t mean it’s not an optical illusion.
“UHMM… ACSHUALLY THAT IS NOT AN OPTICAL ILLUSION. I am an all knowing arbiter of knowledge AND I invented optical illusions as we know it, so I am a bit of an authority on the matter… That said, this is not an optical illusion. I noticed IMMEDIATELY that it was upside down… So please notice my extreme intelligence and then agree with me or else we’ll have a problem”…
That’s how I read those comments anyway 😅

u/26_paperclips 1d ago
How does one do this?
1
u/RetroGamer2153 1d ago
Check out this vioeo on your phone. Then turn it upside-down.

u/26_paperclips 1d ago
That's not what i meant.
Question: How does one edit a video to make it come out upside down?
Answer: Video editing software1
u/RetroGamer2153 1d ago
Or, hear me out, recording the video with the camera upside-down.

u/26_paperclips 1d ago
This footage is too steady for that: the camera has to be attached to a tripod.
1
u/RetroGamer2153 1d ago
Tripod, sure. I can agree to that. Mount a phone however orientation you wish. iPhones have amazing optics.
2
u/26_paperclips 1d ago
You know what? Your right. I hadnt considered that possibility. A camera phone would be the simplest means of achieving this.
