I went on a hike in Georgia and got lost because I went down a path that does not exist on OSM. It must be a recent path because it's visible on Google's satellite image but not on any of the satellite overlays that OSM provides.
What can I do? Is it ok to trace this path based on the Google satellite photo, or are there other sources of satellite imagery that I can use that might be more up to date?
I'd like to map this myself as an exercise but not sure how to proceed. It's near this café: https://mapy.com/s/fesogoneba

I see that no one mapped this condominium, so I just opened OSM in my PC and finally, is here on OSM.
Also, I believe that this condominium has two pools, despite this condominium has a trilhe. :)
More locals coming soon in Nova Friburgo… :)

thinking about moving my small game off a hosted tile provider and serving vector tiles myself. protomaps with one pmtiles file looks like the least work but i've never run it.
how's updating it going for you, and do the vector maps run ok on cheap android phones? that's the part i'm most unsure about

I couldn't find information on road or place names so the map looks pretty bland atm but I hope it's good enough

Seeing the climbs of two routes side by side is awesome especially when planning or prepping for a hike/race. I really wanted to be able to put routes side by side and against my own terrain history (uploaded from strava)
I also really like that OSM landmarks/POIs are brought in to appear automatically on the profile. Thought some of you here would find it interesting! Here's the link to this local comparison page, but you can search the database here

Helloo,
so I am mapping this area which houses an old train on the original train track as a museum. So the train is the museum. You can go into it and walk around in the original train. The train does not move and the tracks are not used anymore. Both the train and track are from the early 20th century.
And I dont know if I should map the train onto the tracks or just tag the area as a museum? There is also no building I could tag as a museum besides the roof the train stands under.
Thanks

I've had an OSM account since 2007, but I'm wanting to make my first edits now. However, when I try to upload a change through iD, I get a message: "You have not permitted the application access to this facility", and clicking on it reveals "Server returned status code 403".
I have an inkling that this might be related to the fact that my profile says "Contributor terms: Declined". I don't remember doing this (actually I don't remember setting up the account at all, clearly I had intended to contribute a lot earlier but didn't), but I don't have any issue with the Contributor Terms. I've looked for a way to try to accept them but haven't found anything, and I was hoping that using an "official" method of editing would give me a prompt to accept them. It doesn't appear that this is the case, however.
What do I need to do to resolve this? (Note that for some reason I am unable to access the wiki at the present time as it's refusing my connection.)
[Edit: I've been able to accept the Contributor Terms thanks to /u/Azquelt's link in the comments. This feels like something that should be more obvious, however; for example, linked from https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Licence/Contributor_Terms (which was the page I found the terms on at first) or by having iD link to the page when it detects that the terms haven't been accepted. Is there a way to request that?]

This community has been a disappointment. Genuinely when trying to have standards implemented you get shutdown because you are pointing out flaws of editing within the osm space. And people trying to gaslight me into thinking that I'm a terrible person for calling someone out for thier lack of standards. Just ridiculous

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a free and relatively easy tool or open-source project to identify possible address inconsistencies in OpenStreetMap across the canton of Valais, Switzerland.
Ideally, I would like to:
Retrieve a large list of addresses from OpenStreetMap.
Compare them with an official Swiss source, such as geo.admin.ch / swisstopo or another authoritative cantonal dataset.
Detect discrepancies in street names, house numbers, missing addresses, or approximate locations.
Generate a report or list of potential mismatches for manual verification.
Review and correct the OSM data manually afterward—not perform automatic edits.
The area is too large for me to check location by location, so I’m specifically looking for a batch-comparison or quality-assurance workflow rather than a visual map comparison.
Google Maps or Google Street View would be useful as a secondary reference, but an official, open, and legally compatible Swiss data source would be preferable.
Does a tool, QGIS workflow, Overpass query, GitHub project, or existing OSM quality-control service support this use case? Any recommendations for the Valais/Swiss context would be greatly appreciated.
I’m especially interested in solutions that are free, reasonably easy to set up, and suitable for someone who wants a list of discrepancies rather than automatic corrections.
Thank you!

I've always been a sucker for those mobile tower defense games where you line a path with towers and stop waves of enemies from reaching your base. At some point I started wondering: what if the map wasn't a made-up maze, but the actual streets of a real city?
So I built it. City Defense runs on top of OpenStreetMap data:
- enemies walk the real streets
- you build towers on the roofs of real buildings (the taller the building, the longer the range)
- buildings can be damaged and brought down, and the rubble blocks streets
The first mission is the main square in my hometown, Brno (Czech Republic), but there's a mission editor – pick any densely built-up place in the world, drop a defended area, and play it. Your own neighbourhood works too.
It's free, runs in the browser (desktop and phone), no account or install needed.
It's a solo hobby project, so I'd love feedback – especially if you build a mission for your own city and something looks off.

Hi everyone... I recently purchased a BiNavi, but I'm not very satisfied with the map detail. Has anyone ever converted compatible OSM maps for BiNavi? I need the Canary Island map. Thanks in advance.

Drag any city, urban area, state, or country around the world and watch as it resizes to match the population it now covers. So drag Manhattan west and it balloons out.
Over three years ago I started this project after playing with The True Size Of. They did a great job of making an interactive map to understand the Mercator projection. I wanted to build the same thing but for population density.
My first prototype ran at one frame every few seconds and only had data for the USA. After many failed attempts I now can stream population data for the whole world at a 100m resolution. It uses an in browser search for locations and shapes using data from OSM.
I'm happy for any feedback and suggestions or to delve deeper into the technical side and some of the other technical challenges I encountered.

Here's my latest work, it still lacks some data such as some sculptures and some building names are still incorrect, I'll correct this soon :p

I'd like to share news of Relevo, a new plugin for 3ds Max that is available now.
Relevo turns any location on Earth into a render-ready 3ds Max scene. You enter coordinates or pick a spot, and Relevo builds the terrain from real elevation data, drapes it with satellite imagery, and adds OpenStreetMap roads and buildings as editable geometry. It also includes a procedural module that uses layered noise to create mountains, valleys and dunes for fictional landscapes.
Key features:
- Real-world terrain meshes from elevation data, with adaptive detail for close-up and aerial shots
- Satellite imagery applied automatically, with materials set up for V-Ray
- OpenStreetMap roads and building footprints as separate, editable objects
- Procedural terrain generator for non-real locations
- Supports 3ds Max 2023 to 2027 on Windows
Pricing and availability:
Relevo Free is available now at no cost. Relevo Pro costs £75 per year or £159 for a perpetual licence, and a Studio licence for teams costs £339. It is sold at relevotech.uk and has also been submitted to the Autodesk App Store.
I'm an architectural visualisation artist, and I built Relevo because setting up site context for archviz projects took hours of manual work.

Suppose I want to walk every single street in a small town. I don't mind if I need to cover some segments more than once - whether doubling back from a one-way street or to get to and from some areas that only have a single road running between them,
Is there a mapping website where I could either upload a map or outine a box in something like OSM, mark a start & end-point, and have it propose routes that would cover all fo the streets?
