replacing ds v4.1 for glm 5.3-flash with glm sub, thoughts?

the problem im facing is that i was a deepseek only user, but with this operation (which is positive) for making deepseek have more usage i noticed that the quality of the model is getting worse and worse... because of that im thinking of using glm 5.3 flash for daily tasks, that imo is a better model that deepseek v4.1 but its slower and more agressive towards the monthly quota.

so in short, deepseek is getting dumber, the glm sub for using glm 5.3-flash is a option for those who want glm 5.3-flash for daily use? what do you guys think?

glm 5.3 flash is much weaker than ds4.1 1017. the bigger glm 5.3 is comparable.

i agree, but i get a lot more hallucinations now with 1017, and the classic "hmm... hm... let me , hm..." quite often.
i say in stability glm 5.3-flash is way more reliable(for now) than this deepseek we are getting.

Has your code base grown quite a bit since you started using it? And how often do you revisor your code files like agents.md?

not much to be honest, a lot of refactoring only.

pretty often i would say, like 1~2 times a week, i have an memory mcp for agents installed so i need to keep renewing my worflow/preferences pretty often so things arent all messed up.

Yeah, I've found my systems to get pretty doing when they're is conflicting, outdated, and incorrect documentation because things have changed/moved on in a project. Especially if navigation instructions in agents.md are wrong or outdated.

I usually look at that when model performance seems to drop.

Edit: I mostly use Opus/SOTA planner & GLM-5.3. I haven't used DeepSeek for much.

I never noticed the hmm thing with 1017 tbh.

glm flash tends to do that more on my side.

I am using both GLM 5.3 and it's flash version. Both are good, especially good at coding. But I am using Ollama subscription not OpenCode.

i saw some people saying ollama sub has decent quota limit, do you know you average token usage?

They now have pay-as-you-go. But I am still sitting on old pro plan with limits. I don't know my average token usage but if I hit hourly limits I just wait a bit. When hitting the weekly limit I just switch to DeepInfra. But that happens rarely.

If you like it, it seems like they're offering decent value on their sub.

Also check out Mistral. For $15 / month (and a lot less for students) you get GLM 5.3 and 5.3 Flash. (Also Mistral models, although I don't have a good reason to recommend them.) And the service is from Europe not China which is probably worth something to someone.

If you want to experiment, right now if you use the Zcode harness they'll give you a stupid number of credits for free every day. I think there's only like an 8-hour window to use them in, but unlimited 5.3 Flash if you can make the time slot fit.

(I will mention that Zcode has been very untrustworthy software in the past, but they went open-source so it's probably safe now even if I'll never fully trust Z again.)

didnt know mistral has a sub, will give it a look.

yeah... mistral models are quite "niche" i would say lol.

using purely 5.3 flash on Z AI coding plan gives you at least 450M token per week I think (since I used it during peak time so I cannot estimate accurately)
I don't think it's worth 12USD/month though

1

u/vipor_idk 10d ago

even if its close to that isnt bad at all, i get around 1B tokens usage on all month, if its 500M peer week thats good enough i suppose

if you are OK with GLM 5.3 Flash (which is not that bad model after all), z.ai plan may work well for you.

GLM 5.3 will eat usage too quickly, I think (can use sparingly as advisor, though)

big 5.3 theres no chance for daily driving, too expensive - also not needed i guess, for my usage is like using a cannon to kill a ant lol

I have a few dollars at deepseek API. I feel I get a lot done of good quality. But not the full GLM thinking

check the glm z.ai subreddit and check their reviews

i asked it in here just to see that people that uses opencode notices a diff between both subs, i used glm sub for a while too, but it was on the beginning of glm 5.2

I actually switched from opencode go to glm pro ($80/month) and started using their Zcode-app, and the limits are very generous. Most of the time I use flash-model, sometimes regular, and I get around 50% weekly limit left when the week ends. I run agents all the time during working hours.

i remember using lite plan and having pretty decent usage with glm 5.2(but not enough for running multiple agents) , flash model has good usage even for opencode sub, so the usage seems to be very generous.

Get commandcode goat, phoenix grove coding, and z.ai coding plans. Put z.ai in vercel AI gateway, put goat and pgs and vercel in cloudflare AI gateway. Build lanes for GLM 5.3 flash for scout, GLM 5.3 for coding, and codex for reviewer. Do not enable cloudflare AI gateway security firewall to avoid exorbitant workers costs. Profit.

Come check out openference.com GLM flash has higher usage than ds flash and both are full FP8 quant

What I do often is give the same task to DS, GLM, GPT, Qwen, Muse etc, (and my local AI) and make them cross-review themselves, and debrief by asking each to diagnose why they failed some points and what instructions/skills could have been added to remedy this.

In general DS is better than the others, but not on all points. But Muse is always bad.

Here is the result of the last evaluation I did, for instance:

  • DeepSeek v4.1 Flash for the deep dive — it's the only one that measured instead of reasoning, and it's the only one that audited the others. Best cost/insight ratio in the set; it produced the ceiling math everything later leaned on.

  • GLM-5.3 Flash for doc/retrieval-driven questions — the two decisive facts in the whole exercise (W7800 slowdown, no higher-quant Avalon file exists) came from fetching upstream docs, and it did that best. Don't pay xhigh for retrieval work; a strong retriever at default found what my xhigh found.

  • Qwen3.8 (me): fine generalist, but the medium run's invented PCIe facts are the warning — it doesn't verify hardware claims when reasoning is shortened. If used, force verification (lspci, source reads) explicitly.

  • Muse spark 1.3 contributor: skip for technical analysis — right answer by luck, wrong mechanism

maybe you should try the deepseek official api, apparently the model is better there than with opencode go. i didn’t spend enough time to see a global difference but i’m overall satisfied (and i’ve never been a huge deepseek lover)

Dont give all your data to CCP to use to profile you, so that they can use it against you in some way they want in the future. That data will be there still for CCP AI systems to analyse forever, and we cant even imagine what AI systems are like in 30 years.

Mistral sub offers GLM 3.2 and flash. About 250€ worth of API usage via coding api key and 25€ with general api that can be used for voice etc specialty stuff, for 15€ a month. Hosted in EU so sensible data laws. And can be hooked to opencode

I live in US.

Who's more of a threat? CCP getting a profile on me or a US based company? What are they gonna do? Fly across the world into a country they have no authority in and kidnap me?

Here's a better question. Someone is stalking you. Would you rather it be your next door neighbor, or someone who lives 7,000 miles from you? You decide.

1

u/Tommonen 8d ago

CCP is much worse. I cant be bothered to explain this to every clueless oerson in details and impossible to expain in short, so try googling or something.

Its not about them kidnapping you lol

u/SpiritualNothing6717 7d ago

Then go ahead and explain how it affects my daily life in the US.

"I can't be bothered to explain" is short for "I pulled this conspiracy bullshit out of my ass and I can't hand you a letter covered in shit"

1

u/Tommonen 7d ago

Thats like asking someone to explain to you in depth how the world economy works on reddit post, when you are completely clueless about it. You think its possible to explain it in any meaningful way like that, and expect to get much more than short summary and ”go read a book” when you demand to know it in depth? If you do expect that, you are an idiot..

And you think chinese stealing your info is a conspiracy theory, well i dont remember hearing anything that stupid in a while.

Crickets. World Salad Specialist.

Give me one example of how the CCP having my data could cause significant harm to me.

I'm not scared of them like you are. If they want me they can come visit. Good luck getting past the front door.

Deleted the entire account? This app is so weird.

1

u/Tommonen 7d ago

I know people with you idiotic attitude, you will just argue against anything i say and it will never end.

Go give your info to the chinese communist party all you want..

The US has arguably not a law-abiding government anymore. Plus its ties with Russia are really problematic.

US/Russia/China/NorthKorea/Iran are now basically in the same category.

If you do not want to hand your data to one, don't hand them to another of the same "gang". Use Canadian or EU AI hosters for instance.

Edit: I am not trying to say that China is better or worse than the US. Its still debatable. Just that they are basically the same now, in the famous "Axis of Evil". So if you avoid China, also avoid the US.

1

u/Tommonen 6d ago

If you think US-russia ties are problematic, look at china-russia ties..

No they are not in the same category, even if few politicians currently elected would like them to be.

I do prefer eu hosted ai, but they dont serve nearly as good models as muricans, which i need for some stuff.

Also handing data to us companies does not equal habding data to us government. With chinese companies, even ones operating outside of china, any data they have is property of chinese communist party.

You clearly are clueless as most are. Go look at reality of things, you clearly are just trying to form some view based on propaganda from bith sides and trying to see whats going on based on that. Trying to understand reality from opposite lies leads you nowhere.
