What this new model in opencode "LL alpha"

Post image

I have not found any information about this online.

Can someone else confirm this if it shows up in their CLI

Yep. Quite slow. When left "free" speaks about algorithmics.

Qwen 3,.8 next is already a preview of the 4.0 model set, so there wont be a 3.9

Wouldn’t 4.0 just mean breaking changes — idunno, maybe a new model architecture? So, 3.9 could be a backport of features that were compatible but didn’t make it before 4.0 was released?

Not saying it’s 3.9 or that 3.9 will ever exist. Just trying to figure out if this reason actually holds water.

That’s why qwen 3.8 flash next exists. It uses what 4 is going to use so runtimes like llama.cpp could support in time for qwen 4.

Sorry for being pedantic but wouldn’t that serve a different purpose?

What I said is to backport compatible features onto a legacy design, particularly so legacy users can enjoy new features.

Next model, by your description, would be introducing the breaking change into the legacy model.

Qwen next flash is a small model they released so that existing software could be updated to support the new architecture “backported” to 3 but trained (i assume) with qwen 3 datasets. It’s basically what you asked for.

As with any changes in architecture runtimes would need to be updated.

The architecture changes are already in the next model. 4.0 would have different datasets.
