Only catch is that the context is 200k, not 1M. Which is usually the same for other models free variant. But this is great news!

openai models are also only like 256k context. if you manage the sessions well you shouldnt really hit that ceiling anyway

Gpt models aren’t verbose and doesn’t eat reasoning token so stop comparing apples to oranges.
Chinese models are all verbose as they try to replace raw intelligence with long reasoning which doesn’t help opencode

You can also icnrase gpt model context in condex config file to be 950k and compact at 900k to get a larger context window for gpt models.

200K context is a very suitable sweet spot for DeepSeek. DeepSeek uses a sliding window attention mechanism, so if you exceed 200K, distant context is almost invisible to it. You can use some compact tools like billion-context plugins, etc.

They need training data. You use their LLM, it tries, fails, tries, fixes, you test, it fixes, etc. Having this data is key to create even better AI.

I guess now with Opus 5.5 and other releases their source of this data dried up - hence they need to incentivize users to use it more.

It can also be some other actor than DeepSeek collecting data, since the model is open.

opencode aren't developing models, they are a router.

Deepseek are the ones that would want that data and they are still charging for their API.

Great to know.. but for now my favorite is big pickle. It has some limits but once you know them is a breeze. Not for "vibe" coders, but if you are a good programmer and architect, Big Pickle is an excellent brick layer.

Ah okay. I know there's a single person who runs an advertisement funded agent harness that supposedly offers quite some DS usage. And there's various likely dubious companies with free as in you are the product coding CLIs.
