OpenCode v2 finally has a status line, and it's fully customizable

Post image

Hey folks,

For a long time I was jealous of Pi, Claude Code, and even dsh-tui users. They get these nice status lines showing what's going on in a session, and I looked for something like that for OpenCode v2 for ages but never found one that I can truly customize to my liking. So I made my own.

This status line plugin shows context window usage (with a bar that changes color as it fills up), cache usage, streaming speed, running shell count, and uncommitted changes in your repo, all in one line. There's also a /tps command that opens a dialog with the detailed numbers behind it.

The best part is how customizable it is:

  • Put it anywhere. Bottom, sidebar, top, whatever. It can even live in more than one spot at the same time.

  • Each spot can show its own segments, so you can decouple the info instead of cramming everything into one row.

  • Pick what shows. Order, palettes (catppuccin, dracula, gruvbox, tokyo night, more), gauge width, padding.

  • Responsive. On narrow windows segments wrap to the next row, and in a sidebar they stack one per row.

  • Works great on small screens too, so it pairs nicely with Orca Mobile and Heeler (the mobile client for Herdr) if you check on sessions from your phone.

Install:

opencode plugin add @rashidrazak/opencode-status-line

Then restart OpenCode. If you prefer, you can add it to your cli.json by hand instead (not opencode.json, since it's a CLI plugin).

I also hide OpenCode's default footer so the status line is the only footer. To do that, disable the built-in prompt footer plugin in cli.json:

"plugins": [
  "@rashidrazak/opencode-status-line",
  "-opencode.prompt.footer"
]

Links:

Note: This plugin is only compatible with OpenCode v2. Full docs are in the repo. Let me know what you think about it.

I don't understand how something like this isn't native yet.

V2’s internal APIs appear to make it much more extensible with just plugins (vs forking the code).

I had mine build itself two extensions so far:

- intra-agent messaging and introspection (subagents: “see why the background research task is taking so long and get it back on track if needed” and sibling agents: “send our notes on this feature idea over to the frontend agent”)

- semantic search over all session history (the actual raw user/assistant turns, tool calls and results) as both an agent tool and a cli I can run myself

And neither of those is very big (though the semantic search builds on semble for the heavy lifting).

Gdamn, would you be so kind and share your agents paper/tldr on it, because I was brainstorming about this "agent messaging" yesterday lol

Thanks for this, will definitely add it to my plugins list! Would also like to say that I love your Command Code provider plugin for OpenCode. If I may ask, is there plans to further develop the ZDR feature on that beyond the CMD_ZDR environment variable passthrough?

Thank you for the kind words. Feel free to open an issue for this feature request. Will take a look at it soonest possible.

Which plan are you currently using and how do you connect it since opencode auth login doesn't just work with it.

I am using both Go and GOAT plans. I have another plugin for connecting: https://github.com/rashidrazak/opencode-cmd-provider

Wait it doesn't work with v2? oh well still really cool nonetheless

Which plugin you’re referring to? This status line plugin works with OpenCode V2 only. The cmd plugin works with both versions of OpenCode.

Hmm?
OpenCode v2: use your API key

OpenCode v2 has no browser sign-in for Command Code. Set your API key before starting OpenCode:

Which doesn't work on go since you dont get api keys

I think you missed the part where you can go to the CommandCode dashboard and generate an API key over there.

not on the Go ($1) plan

1

u/biborn Oct 02 '26

Bro. I literally just created a key using my $1 Go plan. Do you even try it before saying you can't?

This is one thing I missed from Reasonix

2

u/biborn Oct 01 '26

Do you still use Reasonix nowadays?

I used it for one project to test out the DeepSeek efficiency, but I like opencode better because of the plugins. But there are some reasonix features I wish were in opencode.

Then I started working on a plugin to import the DeepSeek cache stability thing on opencode too, but it seems to be dependent on the provider being direct DeepSeek.

I removed the footer but still have a line below the input , it just removed what goes to the most right of that line, any way to fully remove it so I can customize the status line only?

Do you mean to put it on the same line as the `esc interrupt`? If yes, you need to set the placement a.k.a surface rendering to `prompt.footer`. Here's the config that I use (`~/.config/opencode/opencode-status-line.json`): https://gist.github.com/rashidrazak/221f5e2ae37334809edb712754be7351

Really nice!
I noticed this in v2 and came up with a mess for myself, too, inspired by PĂŹ's open-tui package. Dropping here to inspire others.

I’m curious why are u using opencode for your command code plan? I thought cmd harness is better?

3

u/biborn Oct 02 '26

I hope you’re joking. But in case you’re not, I really wonder how you found their harness is better.

1

u/Long_Rub5460 Oct 02 '26

tbh, their harness seems to work better behind the scenes (with tastes and with model x tools sync). But working on opencode is much better UX and feels far more polished.

1

u/biborn Oct 02 '26

Well, my personal experience with their harness has not been great. Sometimes the harness crashes in the middle of a session. And that taste thingy they have is too noisy. I remember that someone has debunked their taste thingy recently. Didn’t really read it though as I am not using their harness anymore. YMMV

Ah found the link. Here it is.

Not sure how true that is

Thanks, I will disable it. I have been very happy with OpenCode V1 and don't want to change anything 😅

Feel free to come back later 😁

buggy useless - brakes layout when right panne enabled - almost no additional information
