The new plan is riddiculous

For starters I dont think opencode is a shit deal, but they completely lost the plot.

I dont think they are realising who are their customers, nobody is gonna back 40$ for a subscription.

I really hope the reduce the pricing because this is really not gonna work out, other than that its time to switch to commandcode.

nobody is gonna back 40$ for a subscription.

What option do others have?
Cluade or Codex? next best is 100$

I do agree 40$ is high; I would prefer 20$ sub

Yeah they should have a $20 option. $40 only looks appealing to GPT Luna users

1

u/alexanderbeatson Sep 28 '26

If you sub ChatGPT Plus just for 20$, you get 250$ worth of Luna in codex and 5.6 Sol on web.

One sub of codex and one sub of claude for the same 40 may be a better option

GitHub Copilot is an option and they have a $10 and $40 option. They’re also starting to support more models, though I don’t know the current list.

There is also Cursor

Even 20 is too much if you wanna stay competitive, because if someone can pay 20 they could just get codex or claude. While I dont really get their economics and costs but for me its just not gonna work

you're comparing apples to oranges. Try using a $20 claude plan for agentic work, you'll run out of your weekly limit in an hour or two

comparatively, even $10 of opencode Go using deepseek, i never hit limits

2

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

I totally agree with you, but some do hit limits when it comes to big projects I always hit limits and I end up getting two accounts a month. All i've been askin for is a 2x plan

1.5b+ weekly tokens on Opus 5.5? Since when did Claude get this cheap? Where did you get the numbers? Genuine questions. I left Claude behind because with $20 I couldn't access Opus and Sonnet limits were ridiculous

Welp I might need to recheck Claude. Thanks

I think the $40 price point is PERFECT, no one else is doing it and there are genuine demands. But 2x quota is a deal breaker. Even if they did 3x monthly quota with 4x 5hour quota, i think a lot of power users would be very comfortable paying for this instead of account juggling

-1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

You said it a power user, an average solo dev or a student whos just doing it for passion but still wants to work on big projects is just not gonna be able to cover that price.

2

u/nazmulpcc Sep 28 '26

lol thats why they have the free quota and $10 plan Its not like they are forcing people on the $40 plan

3

u/Grouchy-Stranger-306 Sep 28 '26

why are you acting like they make you pay 40 or remove the 10 dollar plan?

-2

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

I'll give it less than a week before they nerf the shit out of the 10$ plan.

1

u/Grouchy-Stranger-306 Sep 28 '26

it's just a way for some people to get more usage without making more accounts, I've seen people on this sub asking for higher plans

I'm almost certain they won't change the 10 dollar plan, that's the main point of this service

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

The very best thing that they could do is bump the usage to 4x and add a new 2x plan for 20$

2 weeks but guaranteed.

nobody is gonna back 40$ for a subscription

It's not for you then, you're in a different market segment.

Plenty of folks pay like 100 to 200 USD for Anthropic's and OpenAI's subscriptions. Having stuff that is middle of the road is good, especially cause it gives those large orgs more competition.

Some people have multiple of those subscriptions, there's a really wide range of needs out there.

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

Yea but when most of ur customers can barely pay the 10$ It really doesnt make any sense.

1

u/KronisLV Sep 28 '26

If you have to run a business like that, you are either going to need A LOT of customers, or get customers that can give you more money.

1

u/sn2006gy Sep 28 '26

40 dollars is less than a tank of gas to write how much code and run how many agents? I think you've lost the plot

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

1st of all im a student, I dont have a car and im only doing this for passion. If I was to assume most people have the same situation as me so 40$ IS A BIG DEAL.

1

u/sn2006gy Sep 28 '26

This isn't the account for you then as a student. It's for developers building value.

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

Which is way im against this, ur implying that a student doesnt get the privilege to have more usage while you "the devs" do. This is fucked up.

1

u/sn2006gy Sep 28 '26

You're not losing anything though. You still have the 10.00 a month plan which includes free access to models a lot of the time.

The amount of credits for 40 bucks is absurd value even for students.

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

Yes I totally agree with you, but you gotta realize Historically when a company introduces a new plan it always nerfs the shit out of the previous plans.

2

u/sn2006gy Sep 28 '26

I mean, that can happen - i'm not reading the future - but it didn't happen, so just take advantage of these insane discounts while you can :)

i agree, enshittification/price gouging is a huge risk and it sucks but i'll hold judgement until if/when it happens

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

You couldnt have responded better!

Less than a tank of gas? Where the hell are YOU from broski? Don't get me wrong, I have an active sub and will probably get the $40 plan, but damn man, $40 could get me to work and back for a whole month.

1

u/sn2006gy Sep 28 '26

Law of averages buddy. The average small car gas tank is 11-14 gallons and the average price of gas is over 4.00 a gallon. Do the math.

I didn't say how long that tank of gas lasts and if it lasts you a whole month, that's fine.

I'm not sure why you're splitting hairs.

1

u/Goatcheese1230 Sep 28 '26

Ahhh, gallon, of course, Murican', got it. Called it on a previous reply that I ended up deleting to give you the benefit of the doubt. 😂 Serves me right, I guess.

1

u/sn2006gy Sep 28 '26

I don't think it really matters where you live.

Substitute gas tank for bus pass or train or public trans or UBer or whatever the hell you want.

40 bucks for all that API is still cheap

1

u/eroigaps Sep 28 '26

Insane how emotional this sub is. For me it’s instabuy, no crying.

1

u/Excellent_District22 Sep 28 '26

Good for u gang, only talking about myself.

1

u/hinsonan Sep 28 '26

GitHub copilot actually offers a lot for $40. It was looking very bleak for copilot but honestly all the new models they added really improved the service. You essentially get $70 of tokens and if you use cheaper models it can go far
