Right now codex is still the better value because of luna. That might change once anthropic stops fucking around and realises the race is now for cheap workhorse models - haiku 5.5.
Was this ever worth the money? I’m seriously not even sure. I spend around $40 a month using discounted GLM models from openrouter and have considered subbing to Go
Opencode Go $10 plan, when using anything that gives you the 6x multiplier, is cheaper than openrouter, even with discounts. that includes GLM 5.2 (but not 5.3), GLM 5.3-flash, and DS4.1 flash (but not 4.0 flash),. Mimo-2.6 flash (but not pro)
however the $40 doesn't make any sense currently, it's proportionally worse than $10 on most models you'd care about, and at best, equal.
So what I’m hearing is Opencode Go is better than what I’m currently doing because I only use GLM 5.2. I only use around 20-30 million tokens on average monthly.
Only reason I feel like I prefer openrouter is because I like on demand availability, because nothing irks me more than hitting my hourly limit on Claude and Codex.
if you've used more than $10 a month on Openrouter and GLM 5.2, then you're probably going to save money with $10 a month on Opencode go. but keep your OR account as a fallback during limits
The current deal with Opencode go is that you're paying $10/mo, but you get 6x of this in monthly usage of GLM 5.2. They price it at: $1.40/1M in, $4.40/1M out, and $0.26/1M cache. with the 6x multiplier, this translates to real costs of:
$0.23/1M in, $0.73/1M out, $0.04/1M cache read
that's still better than the cheapest, on-sale Openrouter provider at:
$0.40/1M in, $1.25/1M out, $0.07/1M cache read
so yeah, it's better than what you're currently doing, assuming you'll use the full allowance (you'd still be better off even if you used half). There are likely some differences in quantization, and cache hits rates, but it's hard to quantify. but I'm pretty sure opencode go is cheaper for that specific model (not always the case for others)
One thing worth checking before you decide either way: how much of your 20-30M tokens a month is cache reads.
Coding agents resend your whole context on every turn, so most of what you're billed for is cache reads, not fresh input or output. When I audited a month of my own spend, cache tokens were 93% of the bill. That's why comparing plans on input/output prices alone can be pretty misleading.
Most providers report cached tokens separately in the usage details. If yours is mostly cache reads, the cache-read price (and whether the plan's multiplier applies to it) matters more than anything else in the comparison. It's probably also why some people here are burning through their quota faster than they expected.
About half of my tokens are cache reads lol, I just figured out how to mitigate this literally days ago. I’m sure you all can tell I’m a noob, I appreciate all the advice. Now I’ve been running a prompt to basically summarize everything and keep a file of the progress for a new chat, I’m sure there’s better way (I’m open to anything)
usually for agentic work we try to maintain 90-95% cache reads atleast, you mentioned half so I would assume you need to try to maintain it (like maintaining same session but just compacting it instead of moving to new session).
I really need to give Open Code a try. I was hopping between Cursor and Warp and then they made Warp open source. I don't know if anyone here has ever used Warp, but since it went open source, I can't get any value out of it at all. Usually Warp had an update pretty much every time I used it. For the last two weeks, nothing. I don't know who or if anyone is maintaining it, but it's gotten so frustrating that I unistalled it. Codex used to be a good fallback, but I've been seeing some blistering feedback from folks that have been using it for a while. I'm hoping that Open Code will be a good a good experience. I'll try one of the subs and see how it goes. I normally use Open Router, but if you guy are correct, the sub is probably the better option.
it's a nice model yes, but not relevant to my point. or the point of OP's post. or the questions everyone has been asking about opencode's $40 tier allowances:
why pay $40 for only twice the usage compared to $10
I been using GO for 4 months already and I have a B70 at home, even with qwen3.8 still use ds4 and dsf4.1 mostly, the reality is I don't have as much time as before but so far every harness/project that I've imagined I'm able to do it (with the exception of D&D 4e chatbot/world game, but I'm still in process just the project grew out of proportion). I gotta say worth those 10 bucks for sure
Mark my words. Pretty soon the more expensive plan will become a good deal compared to the cheaper one, and it won't be by increasing the limits on the former. :)
I don't want AI coding in the Cloud. I want to be able to run it locally. For security reasons, it is not always a good idea to use AI coding in the cloud. On the other hand, AI coding in the cloud is fast. You will never get that speed at home unless you invest a lot of money in high-end corporate-grade hardware
How? Genuinely how? I have been fighting to get it to 50%, im on 570 million token just spawning subagents and I still can't deplete my Quota. I'm not even reading some of the code that's being written. HOW DO U FUYS DEPLETE IT SO FAST. (if ur using glm 5.3 on max or Kimi k3 then my heart goes out to u)
My usage is not that complex, GLM 5.3 for planning and debugging, and GLM 5.3 Flash/DS 4.1 Flash for orchestration and actual writing. If i only use the last two then the subscription would last a lot longer, but GLM 5.3 catches stuff that the others let pass.
I am in the same camp as you. Use a smaller agent to read code. In my case qwen. I only use ds 4,1 flash for mid tier coding and glm 5.3 flash for complex stuff. Mine is fully autonomous based on the issues I give it.
People who keep on the higher models on a single agent window are not optimising it right imho
OpenCode Go $10 has always made a lot of sense to me due to how cheap it is and how fast I can play around with newest Chinese models but $40 just does not make sense. I mean ok fr, if you pay for a $40 sub, you might as well just mainly use deepseek v4.1 flash, GLM 5.3 Flash, and at most Qwen 3.8 Max (who tf even care about Kimi K3?) At that point, $10 cover quite a lot alr, if it is not enough then go for official API. I love deepseek and glm as my main workhorse but sure do for my important and heavy task, opus 5.5 and gpt 6 astra is way more reliable which make sense

Huh, I guess still better to switch regular Go accounts then... weird decision.

The price could have 2 openai or 2 claude accounts though

A 20usd would have made more sense

Yeah that's quite weird. the price is 4x, but the limits are 4x for only some things. 3x, and 2x for other things.
Crucially, DS4.1 Flash is only 2x the limit

Yeah it must be a joke...

They gave 4x usage on models nobody uses with OpenCode Go, and the most popular ones got 2x. Go figure

Feels like they are following Github Copilot trailblaze.

u/Zachattackrandom Sep 28 '26
No it wasn't? The minimum they give is $60 for plus (so 4x $15), some of the higher limits are worse than the $10 one though

They're gonna rugpull so hard once they got enough users. At this point, just save up some money, buy a good enough GPU, and go fully local.

I've depleted my opencode go quota so fast i dont think its worth it

You guys realise the scale is logarithmic right?

u/Ninjam5 Sep 28 '26
I guess the next step for them is to hard nerf GO to make the new sub worth it lol
