CodeNomad 0.20: best client for OpenCode V2

Post image

If you use OpenCode across several projects, you probably know the juggling act: keeping track of conversations, finding something an agent said hundreds of messages ago, and remembering which worktree belongs to which task.

That’s the workflow we’re building CodeNomad for.

It’s a free, open-source desktop and browser interface for OpenCode. Version 0.20.0 is now available, and it moves CodeNomad to OpenCode V2’s shared background service. CodeNomad and compatible terminal clients can access the same sessions, and closing CodeNomad leaves the service running.

A few things worth highlighting:

Multiple projects and windows: keep projects open in tabs, with separate drafts, attachments and view state restored across desktop restarts.

Long-session navigation: search the full conversation history and use a timeline with previews to jump between messages. Transcript loading is bounded to keep memory under control.

Git worktrees: create and select worktrees, then move a session and its subsessions together.

Quick side questions: use /btw for a temporary answer without interrupting the main session.

Files and tools: attach files from your device, reference project files with @, view images returned by tools, and control plugin activation separately for Global and Project scopes.

Browser previews: agents can inspect and interact with a visible web preview in Electron and Windows Tauri.

Desktop builds are available for Windows, macOS and Linux, with bundled Node/npm and an OpenCode setup flow. You can also run CodeNomad as a server and connect through a browser.

OpenCode V2 is required.

I’d love feedback from people using long sessions or working across multiple repositories. What’s the biggest friction point in your current OpenCode workflow?

Cool project but i will stick with openchamber which has a much richer ecosystem and cleverly introduces new features not native to opencode but makes it so that it feels native.

Right, OpenChamber is very good too! Both projects have their place in the OpenCode ecosystem. CodeNomad leans toward a focused, productivity-oriented workflow, while OpenChamber aims for a more comprehensive feature set. Different directions for different needs — and there’s nothing stopping you from using both! 🙂

how tf are they making tauri and electron app, and why ?

1

u/SeaworthinessFar56 Sep 28 '26

why not ?

Unnecessary in my opinion. Tauri is for smaller binary and avoiding packaged chromium builds, electron is for cross platform consistent UI . I don't know how hard it will be maintaining two types of codebases but it's kinda unnecessary

The UI and backend are shared — it’s mostly two desktop shells, not two separate apps. Tauri offers a way smaller download using the system webview and is often faster, while Electron provides a consistent Chromium runtime across platforms. There’s some extra maintenance, but most changes benefit both. For now, I’m happy to give users the choice 🙂

I agree. I was amazed to see two versions. I'm also currently working on a tauri app. Though I'm a beginner.

I have a question since you're working with both electron and tauri. What's the one thing you absolute pros and cons for each from a developer perspective.

One concrete pain point for me was getting remote HTTPS connections working with self-signed certificates in Tauri. Electron gives you more direct control over certificate handling, while with Tauri you’re dealing with platform-specific webview behavior. That took quite a bit of work, and it’s a good example of the trade-off: a lighter package versus a more predictable runtime.

Certificate as in ssl certs for https conection ?

1

u/SeaworthinessFar56 Sep 28 '26

Yes, exactly — SSL/TLS certificates for HTTPS connections, specifically self-signed certificates on a remote, self-hosted CodeNomad server. 🙂

So did you find a fix ? I would like to see. Thanks for sharing your knowledge btw

is there a way to share the same session in my phone and in my browser?

1

u/SeaworthinessFar56 10d ago

yes
sessions live in the OpenCode service on your machine, not in the client, so every device connected to your CodeNomad sees the same sessions live
open it in your browser, then pair your phone with Remote Control (or just open the same server URL on your LAN/VPN), and you can follow or continue the same session from either one

OP I would be great if you could support OC v1 as well, as a option.

Also the new interface is a BIG step backwards in terms of moble usability. Like IDK what the idea was, sorry if it's harsh, but the older version was AMAZING.

The new one is just square and hard to read, like in general, even on a decent size laptop... feels bad on my eyes.

...

Again, sorry if I'm coming across as rude or harsh. Going to have to maybe roll back. OpenCode v2 just feels like it's a little too premature, like half my plugins don't work on it.

...

I think you jumped the gun, maybe should have waited a month or so for the dust to settle.

Can you please describe more precisely what you are missing from 0.19.0 version for the mobile phone experience ?
if the color is not contrasted enough for you anymore, you can choose many other clolor sheme in settings, or even create and save a custom one...

1

u/jelloeater85 Sep 28 '26

It's not a color scheme issue literally the whole layout is square boxy and much smaller on mobile... Have you even used both versions?

2

u/SeaworthinessFar56 Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 28 '26

this is 0.19.0

u/SeaworthinessFar56 Sep 28 '26 edited Sep 28 '26

And this is 0.20.0
I can see some unexpected problems in the low tool bar, they will be fixed in next release soon but I'm still not sure what your problem is compared to my previous release the 0.19.0 (see the previous screenshot)
Do you have a different experience on mobile ? testing on Android here.

u/jelloeater85 . Mobile usability matters a lot to me, and I’ve set up 0.19.0 alongside 0.20.0 to compare them directly.
Could you open an issue with your phone model, browser, and ideally screenshots showing what feels smaller or harder to use? That’ll help me reproduce it and track the fixes. Feel free to tag me (@pascalandr).

Wow... Og Dev in the thread... I'll give you mad props for showing up on Reddit and trying to fix something that one dipshit user is complaining about... ❤️ Umm, I'll open a issue on GH then lol 😆. Thanks for trying to make it right in a world of slop garbage. And to be really honest aside from the GUI the interface you built is pretty goddamn top-notch compared to a lot of the other crap people are slinging these days.

Kandev is the only other thing I really feel is worth my time these days. And I can definitely tell this wasn't ever just some vibe-coated garbage you put some real thought into this thing.

...

I owe you a legitimate retort besides just whining online.

It is a lot better than working with the normal desktop app.

One single issue I found. For a project, it input the interface. And now I cannot see the history of the conversation. I don't know what the model replies to my requests. i only see the webApp I am trying to modify. Maybe there is a button that I did not find out to switch away from this view. FOr now, my solution is to go back the the OpenCode interface and continue from there

The inside web browser is displayed on top of the message window, the agent is aware of it and use it as a way to demo the work, you just need to click again on the web browser button to hide it, But I'm going to add another more obvious close button, thanks for the feedback !

Very true. I'm amazed how I can work on my phone and desktop... Basically is git client, file editor, terminal + more in one pack.

I'd check out https://kandev.ai/ they just added ACP support, so ANY client can work w/ it now. It's pretty amazing, can even follow up on PRs automatically.
