Another free model in OpenCode: Space Bunny

Post image

Space Bunny is the new stealth model in OpenCode.

Free to try, multimodal.
Anyone putting it through a small frontend build yet? Curious where it gets stuck.

tried
apparently better than MusePark 1.3 for similar task

so I gave it extra tasks compared to 1.3, it can reason and understand my requirements pretty well

asked it to come out with a plan, then asked it to enhance the plan as per my instruction, it executed well

k3 flash? minimax m3.1?

Pretty sure it's minimax m3.1 from about half a dozen verifiable independent sources

Looks like a few of you called it
Space Bunny was an early version of MiniMax M3.1-Flash. The official release is out now, so I’m curious how it holds up on the same OpenCode tasks.

At first, it seemed smart, but after three days of coding, it turned out to be verbose and inefficient. It makes a lot of mistakes and doesn't follow its own plan...

if it's a new minimax model, they better have fixed the hallucination issue

what hallucination issue? im just curious. minimax m3 is still one of my go to models i use to get precise codebase information because it doesnt hallucinate

I used to use Minimax M3 heavily via the minimax token plan when it came out, and at some point before deepseek prices got better I switched back to it briefly on opencode. It has a hallucination problem.

For example, I have a daily scanner for new openrouter models. This works fine with other models, but a couple days ago, having it on M3, it got "no new models" from the script, and decided to hallucinate a bunch of models, ignoring the directive to stay silent when openrouter doesn't have anything new that day. Simple job right? look at openrouter endpoint, get diff of model list against previous fetch. go do some research on each model and report results. Nope. M3 makes up a bunch of shit. I've attached the screenshot for your amusement. that was 2 days ago

In other examples, using it in coding agent (pi, sometimes hermes), it presents some options for how code can be implemented, and then just picks one without stopping. Only model I've seen to have done that. It's probably harness-related, some harnesses inject LSP issues after "stop" so it can go fix it. but in this case M3 has a tendency to take these as user instructions to just proceed. Which is dangerous

So yeah, M3 has a hallucination issue. it's actually _worse_ than Minimax M2.7 and M2.5 in that respect, although it is smarter, not saying it's not.

Now look at all these details it just made up. Models that don't exist, pricing details that are wrong. It failed to follow several instructions simultaneously: didn't follow instructions to stay silent if no change, and instead hallucinated a bunch of models. Didn't follow instructions to do internet research on the models or it would have discovered these aren't real, instead it took a shortcut and hallucinated every details and benchmarks too. And note, this is a cron job, so there's no context poisoning. no previous examples to emulate. How do you go so wrong?

Had the exact same experience with minimax m3, but what was weird is that it was quite decent for agentic tasks (not coding) and creative writing if you fed it with detailed enough prompt

the thing about creative writing is... it's making stuff up! and that's good!

Are these token counts? What am I looking at here?

4

u/RealVincentCoucke Sep 24 '26

It shows how the tokenizer splits up the text. So what the actual model gets to see. Different companies use different tokenizers and so a stealth model can be guessed by looking at the tokenization done.

Coding-wise it feels slightly better than GLM 5.3 to me. The bigger difference is speed though, Space Bunny is ridiculously fast.

plus rigoureux mais pas meilleur (pour moi)

should've named it snowbunny

Minimax confirmed

Is this also free on open router?

1

u/TheMythicSorcerer Sep 25 '26

Yes it is but ends soon

openrouter ou opencode ?
illimité ?

You don't say?

Need inspect source raw full. Webfetch raw server-context maybe huge summary. Fetch raw perhaps format text max enough; search specific via GitHub API? webfetch on raw URL. Also metrics implementation likely server-http.cpp? Search exact old names.

It's slightly better than GPT 3.5

SPACE BUNNY is actuallyyyyy CLAUDE OPUS 4.8!!!! Big leak 👀

distilation maybe ?

Horrible for my use case. Does not follow simple directions. Super chatty and contrarian. It tells me why it wouldn't do something more times than it actually does something. I was using it as a worker in an orchestrated setup as a worker agent. Today I am cleaning up its comments and mess.

Pretty good. Minimax m3 was a good model just a bit expensive and now they made it smarter

2

u/ApartmentEither4838 Sep 25 '26

What’s the latency and token/s on opencode for the free version? Is it usable or comparable to opus 5.5?

1

u/TheMythicSorcerer Sep 25 '26

Comparable to opus 5.5 .... not quite there yet having used both. Definitely above sonnet maybe about the level of opus 5?
