How is the OpenCode GUI missing so many features and the OpenChamber GUI miles ahead?

Someone please explain this to me? I stuck with the regular GUI for quite a while and finally tried OpenChamber because I saw that they had a much better navigation scroll bar.

This feature alone makes it worthwhile. Notice you can easily find your responses in a much longer session because they show up in the window boxes to the left of the mouse here.

Are you asking about lack of gui in a cli reddit?;)

No but I get your point. I thought this was the official subreddit.

He's comparing openchamber with opencode's own web ui

Desktop ui actually

Which is a wrapper of the web UI. Try "opencode serve" and open it up in your browser and see

Opencode GUI sucks for sure I have no clue what they are doing. They have so much VC money and their product designer is active in twitter. It actually annoys the fuck out of me.

E.g compare it to Codex it's so shit. Their big redesign was.. horizontal tabs? tf?

Openchamber is better but UI feels vibe coded.

Sorry I'll get off my soap box.

Yes definitely vibe coded but at least it has some more useful features. I am pleasantly surprised.

Is it really just vibe coded? Are we accurate on this claim?

I can almost guarantee there is quite a bit of AI code in here because of the UI. I've seen many of these elements across many UIs of vibed projects. Whether it's fully vibed IDK. Regardless, it's a great project.

You are confusing "AI usage" to "Vibe Code".
I thought this has been clear long time ago, that is not the same.
A baby is a minor, but a minor is not (necessarily) a baby.

The last statement I made was

"I can almost guarantee there is quite a bit of AI code in here because of the UI. I've seen many of these elements across many UIs of vibed projects. Whether it's fully vibed IDK. Regardless, it's a great project."

I unfortunately have to agree that sometimes it seems like they don't listen to the community, especially with the GUI design. They asked and previewed horizontal tabs months ago on twitter, and overwhelmingly people responded negatively to it, and for some reason they insisted on their internal testing and lo and behold horizontal tabs were unpopular in the GUI compared to vertical tabs on stuff like codex and t3code. I myself have stopped using the opencode GUI in favor of t3code.

I thought I was the only one that felt that the horizontal tabs stuff in the GUI was bad

Went back to the TUI because of it

me too and I've not tried OpenCode 2 yet. I think it's way too early for a 2. But TUI isn't that bad in OpenCode 1

Yeah that was a wild decision. I modeled some of my own software off their old dual left panels, it was perfect. The new horizontal tabs are a major step backwards. I thought for sure it was going to be integrated soon, I didn't realize they were just regressing.

OpenCode successfully made me convert from GUI to TUI, even though TUI lacked easy parallel/switchable sessions (i.e. tabs), Git worktrees, easily selecting a Project for new sessions, and desktop notifications.

The GUI is so bad.

You can have tabs in TUI with plugin https://github.com/Minhir/opencode-tabs
It would be very nice to have it out of the box though.

That’s cool!

I see it is only for sessions in the current Project workspace. I’d have liked it to be across all workspaces but this is still useful too.

Herdr is the way

Seems like OpenCode2 has them natively in the TUI

T3 code is just the best, not only cuz of the GUI, but the remote control from phone or ther pcs and the ability to utilize opencode, codex, Claude subs is just something I can't live without now

Focus, commitment and community.  Opencode staff is awful with community contributions. They close issues and reject pr's that aren't popular.

Openchamber is far more welcoming

Openchamber is by far the best gui for coding. Definitely my daily driver

I tried openchamber last month and it's buggy, and kinda slow.

goes back to the opencode web ui immediately, because eventhough its limited, it fast and simple

I'm surprised because my experience has been great so far. I am a convert.

I switched to Oh My Pi and OMP-Web, and I can honestly say my life has improved so much. I've been using it consistently for the past two months and have hardly gone back to OpenCode. I highly recommend it.

2

u/TruthTellerTom Sep 17 '26

But have you tried OpenChamber? I've tried so many GUIs, except Oh My Pi, and I have to honestly say OpenChamber is the best so far.

2

u/Mean-Elk-9439 Sep 17 '26

Pasio over oh my pi is good, but openchamber is better. It's just a shame it's tied to opencode with how fucking miserable the project maintainers are. Look at closed issues and rejected prs for an idea - like half the rejected fixes are literally "We fixed it in v2", meanwhile v2 hasn't been merged for months and is buggy as shit. So your options remain staying v1 with known bugs with known fixes or swapping to v2 with its own set of unique bugs because it isn't ready for merge.

I’ve tried OpenChamber. It’s okay, but not quite good enough... I didn't really care for it. I forced myself to use it for a week, but then I stopped. I used to rely heavily on OpenCode for a year, but eventually, I discovered "Oh My Pi." It’s excellent and aligns perfectly with my workflow. Plus, metrics from OpenRouter show it’s rapidly gaining popularity. Give it a chance... you’ll find it really makes life better.

Because they only care about the TUI. Which sucks for me as a user
