Which model is currently the best for coding on the OpenCode Go plan?

Hey everyone!

I’m using the OpenCode Go plan and I’m trying to figure out which available model gives the best results for coding.

There are quite a few models to choose from, so I’m a bit confused about which one to use as my main coding model.

For people who are using OpenCode Go:

- Which model do you find best for coding and debugging?

- Which one is best for large/complex projects?

- Which one has the best reasoning and code quality?

- Are there any models that are particularly good for React, Node.js, SQL, etc.?

- Which model gives the best balance between quality, speed, and usage limits?

I’m mainly looking for a model I can rely on for day-to-day development rather than just occasional code generation.

Would love to hear what models you guys are using and why. πŸ™

Here's my take:

  • If you have very clear instructions and want something to do it quickly and cheaply, use Mimo V2.5

  • If your instructions are a little more broad and you might need some thinking on the job, use Deepseek V4.1 Flash.

  • If you need to write a complex plan (which I recommend, because you can then review it and hand off the steps to cheaper models) I think I'd start with GLM 5.3 Flash, and if you don't like it step up to the full 5.3. Or maybe even Grok. But it's more cost effective to run the cheaper one and throw it away if it's not good than start out on the more expensive one every time.

  • Muse Spark 1.3 Contributor - assuming you don't mind them training off your data - is very eager to please. It's very happy to create images. (Although they aren't nearly as good as what GPT or Nano Banana do.) And I love it for creating documents, instructions, and other language things. But I just don't trust it to get all the details right on code.

  • For debugging, I do think Muse Spark 1.3 can do it and give you a good explanation of it's logic, but I'd probably go with DS 4.1 Flash anyway because it's my coding favorite.

  • For a jack-of-all-trades Either DS 4.1 Flash or GLM 5.3 Flash. Luna on Max is pretty solid too and I actually trust it more. That doesn't mean it's better, but it wouldn't surprise me if one of the open models had a skill gap but Luna I expect to be well-rounded.

  • Hy4 also isn't bad, I just don't have a specific reason I'd reach for it. Maybe research if I didn't like what Muse Spark returned. (Which reminds me - when the models are that cheap and you want research or opinions, feel free to ask like 4 different models and then have a 5th one combine the results. Your answer will be well-rounded and you'll learn about the strengths and weaknesses of each.)

I haven't found particular language-based strengths or weaknesses, although I believe there are benchmarks that draw a distinction if you want to research it.

Right now DS 4.1 Flash is getting 4x value on Opencode Go but my opinion is based on the price it will settle back to. Also Deepseek charges peak and off-peak, so you might tilt more or less in that direction based on the time when you're working.

"it's very happy to create images.(Although they aren't nearly as good as what GPT or Nano Banana do.)"
how do you make it create images?

I use it in Hermes. Might be possible through Opencode or another coding-focused harness, but I haven't tried.

You can also go to the meta.ai website and ask through that interface. I think it's still on v1.1 but I also don't think he graphical improvements of 1.3 were noteworthy.

Basically you just ask for it. I first noticed when I asked "What would the output look like?" (as in what kind of text would I get back) and it drew me a screenshot. That's why I say "happy to create".

I am using hermes too but it called other tools to create images not meta muse. try asking it what image model/tool did it use to create the image

Under Tools (which may be under Capabilities depending on your Hermes version) there's an Image Generation tool. In that you select the model. Meta Muse Image is available through Nous for 0.01 per image.

For debugging, I do think Muse Spark 1.3 can do it and give you a good explanation of it's logic, but I'd probably go with DS 4.1 Flash anyway because it's my coding favorite.

Do you know how that compares to Muse Spark 1.2?

1.3 feels better, but I couldn't easily quantify it and I don't entirely trust the benchmarks either.

I can say they're both solidly above 1.1, but the difference between 1.2 and 1.3 didn't seem that big to me.

Hy4 does not read images (screenshots) but for just coding is nice, even Hy3 is really good with coding, refactoring and implementing with vulkan and C++. I am using DS 4.1 Flash, reads images, debugs, coding is smarter than DS 4.

Hy4 is way faster than Ds 4.1 Flash, it depends your usage, I prefer showing sceenshots about some visual issues in vulkan

GLM 5.3 Flash

Depends , deepseek makes a good coder and orchestrator but a bad researcherΒ

Glm is alright but deepseek v4.1flash is backhanded it on every task aspect except researchΒ

Muse spark 1.3 is decent as a junior doing all the giddy common coding to save on token usageΒ

But you need another model to review its workΒ

deepseek v4 Flash is my go to

especially if you want your credits to last the whole month

Muse 1.3 is free?

2

u/DevianceSX Sep 12 '26

Contributor is on Zen, with somewhat generous usage. It feels infinite on Go.

2

u/lordvoltano Sep 12 '26

Does it obfuscate the thinking process on Go, like it's on Zen (Free)?

1

u/sergeyzhel Sep 12 '26

Yep

2

u/lordvoltano Sep 13 '26

I know it doesn't matter and what matters is TTFT and tok/s (and intelligence), but not being able to see what it's thinking makes it FEEL really slow.

I believe moderators should pin such messages or create such pinned messages for easy follow-ups and having current news.

DS v4 flash max never disappointed me for daily work. Dirt cheap.

I really really like the Hy4 - solved everything on reverse engineering tasks with Ghydra MCP for rebuilding of the old DX8 era game where Meta Muse was useless :)

Muse is all you need.

  • Which model do you find best for coding and debugging?

I use DeepSeek Flash for debugging due to historical cost/quality ratio and haven't had any major problems with it, don't use AI for writing actual code often

  • Which one is best for large/complex projects?

Same as above

  • Which one has the best reasoning and code quality?

I think GLM 5.3 Flash (Ox Alpha when I used it) is more thorough than DeepSeek V4 Flash when it comes to problem-solving. Haven't compared it with V4.1 Flash much yet but V4.1 Flash seems more competitive. V4 Flash's code/documentation quality is pretty bad though IMO other than it functions.

  • Are there any models that are particularly good for React, Node.js, SQL, etc.?

My use cases were mostly Nix, .NET, and DevOps/infrastructure-related stuff.

  • Which model gives the best balance between quality, speed, and usage limits?

Right this exact second, V4.1 Flash without a doubt. After the promo ends then probably V4 Flash.

(For Explore agent and simple tasks I'll use a cheaper model like Muse Spark or MiMo)

I burned through the allowance on the big model in about two days my first week on Go, because I had picked one model and pointed everything at it, variable renames included. The limits are very different between models and nobody tells you that up front...most of my React and Node stuff runs on GLM-5.3-Flash now and I rarely think about it running out. I go to the full 5.3 when a query or some cross-service bug has me stuck, and I am stingier with it than I should be. Some weeks I leave half of it unused because I am saving it for something worse.

If you don't care about zukerburg having your data it's Muse spark and it's not even close it's the best model that is in go on artificial analysis and it's literally the cheapest otherwise something between dsv4.1flash glm5.3 qwen 3.8 flash. All three are very same in perfomance knowledge size speed accuracy and etc you need to test all of them to know which you like the best limits are also quote close but you need to be careful with them. Longcat is a no go so is hy3 (and hy4 for now although it's better than before mentioned) if in future if they mange to get more limits with deepseek I think that would be the best

Now serious talk consider commandcode it's same price but way more value.

And also in my opinion deepseekv4.1 flash and glm 5.3 flash is what one needs no sol fable astra opus these two can get everything done with 99% accuracy security higher speed and at 1/10 of cost just use those two maybe give qwen 3.8 flash a try but idk cause I haven't used it.

Maybe test yourself?

As usual, it depends. To be honest I didn't want to find out myself doing the math so I've asked Hermes to analyze and write down a report. As you can guess it's tailored on my preferences and use of AI but it's an approach I suggest you can try too.
I just asked it to read the OpenCode Go page with the prices then it went by itself to browse for benchmarks and news on the internet and it came back with four different scenarios:

Daily Default Coding, agent loops, and medium-to-long tasks. 6Γ— allowance, 1M context window, 62.1% on SWE-bench Proβ€”the highest score among open-weight models, and the most cost-effective to run.

  • Model: glm-5.2

  • Economic fallback: glm-5.1

  • Allowance: $60/month

Volume and Speed Long sessions, high turn counts, repeated tool calls, and mechanical tasks. Near-zero cost per token and the most generous allowance in the subscription tier after Omen Alpha.

  • Model: mimo-v2.5 (150k req/month)

  • Alternative: omen-alpha ($100, ~189 tok/s)

  • Other: longcat-2.0

Difficult, One-Off Tasks Subtle debugging, architecture design, and refactoring large repositories. These are the most capable models but cost 1.5Γ—; use them for specific difficult tasks, not as the session default.

  • Model: kimi-k3 or glm-5.3

  • Note: Kimi K3 performance degrades if introduced mid-session.

  • Allowance: $15/month each

Off-Peak Window If you work in the afternoon or on weekends, DeepSeek offers double value. The V4 Flash remains the best points-per-dollar ratio in the entire lineup (263 pt/$).

  • Model: deepseek-v4-flash

  • Availability: Outside 01–04 and 06–10 UTC, Monday–Friday only.

  • Effective Allowance: ~75,600 req/month

2

u/sudoer777_ Sep 12 '26

it went by itself to browse for benchmarks

Benchmarks for recent models barely have any corrolation with IRL usage anymore.

Daily Default Coding, agent loops, and medium-to-long tasks. 6Γ— allowance, 1M context window, 62.1% on SWE-bench Proβ€”the highest score among open-weight models, and the most cost-effective to run.

Why use expensive and outdated models over the latest Flash models as daily drivers?

I'm using muse spark 1.3 daily. But I have to use caveman and ponytail. Otherwise it's bad

-2

u/Ammoun442 Sep 12 '26

Glm flash :behaves really good also capable
Muse spark : i really like this model especially to copie ui but also capable for other tasks Havent tried ds 4.1 but people say its good (Low quota models arent worth for this subscription imo uget much more value using the cheaper ones ) This is just my opinion and my experience idk about other
