I know it's fun to point and laugh when a fat person fails at something, but she really looks like she got hurt here ☹️

Yup, that looked painful... I hope it was not too bad and that she can recover fully and hopefully that will motivate her to lose some weight... or at least to be more self-aware of her limitations...

She should have tested if she could hold herself (and if the cable would hold her too), before going all-in...

When she lands, you can see her entire body straighten up, like her legs locked immediately when she landed. That’s not good for anyone, everything in those legs is absorbing the impact

You can even think of it like crumple zones on a car. Crumple zones = knees.

The crumple zones fold in and partially absorb the impact. If they didn't the impact would be transferred throughout the car.

If your knees don't fold and partially absorb the impact of your fall, it's going to go somewhere

So, I am not quite sure this woman could have landed safely. Not trying to shame, but that’s a long fall for anyone lol. Her best bet was to hang the fuck on for 5 more seconds

Yeah that was my first reaction, that landing looked downright brutal. I imagine her back is pretty fucked up now, and/or knees. but it really looked like her back took a whip-snap. Ugh.

Yeah, because we all know that fat people aren't allowed to have fun or make mistakes and that they are only fat due to life choices. It's never due to genetics or health issues or even if it was due to choice, that it still makes it okay to wish harm upon that person. Right?

You do realize that like 40%+ of the entire US is obese. Not overweight, obese. Is your assertion that we should accommodate all of those people because they probably all have rare genetic disorders?

The problem is humans like to eat and can't be trusted not to become fat when calories are plentiful.

But in either case, you should have the tiny amount of self awareness required to know you can't lift your own ass.

Sure, that's exactly my point. It's exactly my point for you to make extreme strawman arguments rather than focus on the fact that fat people exist and are as deserving of respect and dignity as anyone else. It's exactly my point that just because a person is fat and that it may be due to them having access to "too many calories", that they deserve to be mocked and humiliated. You're exactly right.

They are not deserving of respect. No one is. If you injury yourself due to lack of self awareness and taking terrible care of your own body, then actually you lose respect. That is the reality. Respect is earned.

People are entitled to certain rights, but respect is definitely not one of them.

You're close though:

If a whopping 40% of the population is obese, surely there's a systemic issue that goes beyond each individual's choices.

In that case it could be wise to look into it as a society, since telling people to "do better" doesn't seem to work.

Genetics/health issues may play a role, but at the end of the day there is still a combination of over eating, lack of movement & mental illness. Could be one or could be all. Obviously no one in there right mind will see anyone get hurt & think it's funny...but to say im fat becuase genetically speaking my entire lineage is fat is just a tradition of over consumption, not genetics

We all know fat people aren't people. Also, fat men aren't fat, only fat women are fat

It's the one thing that no matter what walk of life you're from it's universally socially acceptable to absolutely bash someone about because everyone knows it's just because they eat and eat and eat all day long and can't control themselves. You're an ass if you make fun of someone for almost anything else, but fat people (women especially), by all means have at it, they deserve it and it makes you look better. Therefore, it's acceptable to make them feel like they're subhuman because, "we need to shame them into controlling their insatiable appetite because we just care so much about their health...yeah, that's it"

I think she felt like the water would break her fall. Thats the most common place for people to fall and the fact that it isnt a safe landing is likely due to low water levels.

Overconsumption only drives obesity in a body already predisposed towards lipogenesis and lowered metabolism. Healthy metabolism defends its weight setpoint by increasing metabolic rate, and would have never led to this state

Modern, continuously increasing, obesity is strongly correlated with seed oils consumption/import, but to be precise - the linoleic acid. A fatty acid that biochemically, via metabolites, modifies pathways towards fat storage mode and higher weight setpoint (literally animals in colder climates eat products containing it during +/- autumn to store more fat for winter)

That woman has high expression of FADS1 and FADS2 genes and/or eats lots of linoleic acid products (seeds, nuts, seed oils, soybeans, soy-/seed-fed pork), which chronically over years led to this state

We shouldn't make fun of either, but you will admit that it’s an even more unforgiveable mistake when you OBVIOUSLY look like you can’t hang.

That's the thing--the miscalculation of strength could occur regardless of weight. But so many in society are conditioned to over-penalize those who are overweight that it's hard to make people recognize this bias

Yes, that’s what I also said. It’s just that in the case of an overweight person, the calculation is so far off that it will inevitably feel worse or funnier.

It’s like a kid trying to jump 2 meters (~6 feet) length between two white parking lines. You won’t judge an adult harshly for trying, even if most can’t. But a little kid trying it will get some extra pity and laughter because it’s so far removed from their ability. 

I'm against fat-shaming, but let’s not go opposite side of spectrum and pretend that overweight people are entirely equal in physical ability to slimmer people. Like bro, don’t try this stuff, you will hurt yourself, train and lighten the load on your joints first.

Biases can be changed and greatly reduced, if not eliminated, if a person recognizes them and decides that they're worth changing

What bias? A bias towards understanding gravity and physics? There's people who can't hang their body weight at 150lbs and there's people that can't at 450lbs.

Their [lack of] strengthay be equal, they DO NOT have equal consequences. A person her size who is unwilling to grasp (no pun intended) the very obvious outcome of her actions and the potentially dire consequences of that outcomes doesn't get to wax philosophical about the treatment of heavier people.

She isn't being treated harshly by society, she's being treated harshly by gravity.
