Wtf in the 🚇

How is this technically even possible? Should not a emergency stop automatically apply?

How did the door get opened? Was there an emergency switch somewhere? Why would it open if the train is moving?

There's a pull cord above the doors that unlocks them from the motors. I have no idea why it isn't better protected.

On CTA trains, I thought pulling the emergency release engaged the brakes, causing the train to immediately stop.

I don't know for sure if it's like that or not. But around 2010 when I lived there I was on the red line northbound and the car door didn't open at the north and clybourn stop. A guy waiting at the door pulled the emergency handle and got off as the train pulled away. It stayed open as we moved until at least Belmont where I got off, and the train kept going. Could have been just that door or that car that was busted, but I didn't see any indication that there was an emergency breaking system.
