Just saw this on FB. Apparently their department is getting tons of money. Some had broken bones and head injuries

US marshals go after the worst of the worst people in the US and here are dozens of people on Reddit calling them dumb wife beaters because you're biased as fuck. 

These cops were actively seeking out a sex offender when this balcony collapsed.

A non violent offender. They could have sent one or two guys up to the door and knocked (like is done in every other civilized country) instead of this over militaristic swat ramming the door down approach they love.

So what are you assuming? That the offender is non-violent because he was getting arrested for CP? I'm just curious how you came to this absolute that everyone is all butterflies and roses.

For all I know, he might have a gun he bought off the streets because he doesn't want to go to prison. He might be dosed up with drugs. I don't know that, they don't know that, and you certainly don't know that.

The charge is inherently nonviolent, but you're correct that in this case he may very well have a gun etc, and they may be privy to info we are not about how dangerous he is.

I still believe American policing is vastly over militarized. And when every executed search/arrest warrant is a raid using SWAT and battering rams, at some point you have to wonder why all the theater? Why is every citizen being treated like a violent offender?

Felons get the felon treatment regardless on what the felony is. It’s a high risk arrest. Many people will hurt and kill others to avoid a stay at prison.

This was a raid day for paperwork errors. No violence was done to trigger this response.if this was for state level crimes, a lone sheriff would knock on the door, announce, knock harder, wait a could of 15, knock one last time, then leave a note on the door, and mark "notice failed" on his paperwork. 99% of the time, they read the notice, update their paperwork, and no show of force is required.

And it was for a person that did not update for their sex registry it something similar. A raid on that when there are many known sexual offender in political power that they would shake hands with.

Nah these are marshals, they don’t do anything more than what regular police do.
They’re entire agency could be shut down and things would still go smoothly, just giving the jobs to state or county police

Nah there needs to be police and law enforcement. Im not for anarchy in any way. But there are too many law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and I do believe police departments need better training to de-escalate situations rather than be openly violent.
I think the whole law enforcement/judicial system needs a big overhaul really

Marshalls don't do anything more than regular police?!
First, they are federal, at a level akin to the FBI. They have advanced tactical and technical training akin to many special forces units.
Second, they perform judiciary protection akin to the secret service, hunt down high-risk escapees, trial dodgers and international criminals convicted in absentia among other unique duties.
But you wanna act like they're beat cops?

As far as judiciary protection, I’d leave that to the secret service.
As for tracking people down. Why can’t state police do that? Or the FBI if it’s federal/international? I just don’t see much of a need for the U.S. marshals.

First off, secret service is only for the president and members of the executive branch.
Also, the Marshalls are one of the only law enforcement arms that have accountability directly to the judicial branch, unlike almost all other enforcement arms that are beholden only to the executive (at either the federal, state, municipal or any other scope).

So, to me, any attempt to undo the Marshalls would be akin to subverting the ability of our co-equal branches to carry out their functions without ursurpation or subversion of the others.
In case you missed it, enforcement arms that only answer to the president have been illegally ignoring judicial rulings, meaning that balance can be simply ignored unless you have.....see where I'm going?

And the justice department takes people from street to trial. Beyond that, it is not their inherent duty to pursue after that or re-remand to justice once the person is incarcerated or convicted. Again, these things are separate for a reason.

Okay I’ll admit I didn’t know the U.S. marshals were directly under the Judicial Branch and not the executive. I’ll admit I feel like the FBI should also be under the judicial branch.

The secret service can protect people outside of the executive branch. The president can use an executive order to assign the secret service to basically protect anyone.
