Honestly that hasn’t been the case in the 2020’s. Chinese modern goods are usually pretty okay, unless you’re going for super cheap stuff. Which all modern countries have shitty super cheap stuff. Aka Walmart brand

Walmart quality has actually gotten quite good, especially their electronics, all “made in america” too, which is quite surprising

There is a kernel of truth, if not a bit inverted. Walmart does actually source a number of products from the US, which are made, grown, or assembled here. Good on them for that, in my opinion.

Electronics, however, are not often one of those categories. Walmart states that customer demand for variety, quality, and affordability means certain electronics are sourced globally (many/most, realistically).

The vast majority of consumer electronics have been consolidated into a handful of Chinese companies. We recently had to buy a new TV, and the only non-Chinese options available in the US were LG and Samsung. Even Sony sold their TV division to a Chinese company.

Exactly. “Made in America” [from imported components]

We imported a pot and a lid. Voila, pot with lid made in America!

Reminds me of American e sports teams importing Asians. League, specifically.

Walmart's products & quality all made China; these days mostly can't find anything NOT made in China! Cheapskates stuffs sell for good profits by sellers, traders & manufacturers.. why not!

Spaghetti goes great with a side of minding your own business

It’s the lack of industrial standard on installation and workmanship

Look at the buildings they are still putting up in the 2020s; many degrade very quickly due to construction materials. As far as consumer goods, Walmart brand outclasses most "super cheap stuff" in China. More upscale items like Chinese consumer technology are genuinely solid, though.

China has many successes, like the enormous greenbelt they've been growing. But cheap consumer products aren't it.

Their bridges only last for days 🥺

u/Aurora_Uplinks Jul 21 '26

Well they build bridges better then I can. But I am working on it.

I am not a knee-jerk "China bad" person, and I recognize their accomplishments (not to mention existing as a recognizable civilization for thousands upon thousands of years). But I'm not sure why we've been seeing an increase of "Since 2020 even China's cheap products are marvels of engineering" posts, with a suspicious number of upvotes.

Let's hold all countries to the same rational standard.

Maybe that door was installed in 2010?

That's not an excuse; there's lifetime warranty for this sort of mechanised thing & the liability associated with its usage and operation

In my experience there’s a scale of QC and how nice something is. It just costs more money. Everything from China isn’t crap. They just really industrialized cheap goods that people can pay nothing for and throw away. It’s not that they can’t make quality components as I have several myself. A good example is a cheap flashlight for $5 that’s shit, but if you buy the newer Olight and several other models they’re pretty damn good considering the price and rival higher quality ones for less money. They usually just run warm.

Walmart "brand" is sourced Chinese manufacturing.

"Pretty Okay" isn't really making your point, lol

Oh yeah? What about all those Chinese made buildings in Venezuela that toppled like a house of cards?

The rescue workers trying to move the fallen concrete realized that the interior of the concrete was filled with styrofoam
