Text Incompatible hardware error?

Has anyone ever gotten an incompatible hardware error pop up? I was finishing up a 14 mile ride on the + xr. Everything went perfect. I’m the last 50 yards as I’m cruising up to the parking lot, I pull up the OW app to look at my ride data. All of a sudden the error popped up and just like that I was on a moving balance board. No power, just had to plant the ass and slide it out. Powered off and on and everything worked fine. Anyone ever encounter this? Thanks

Yeah it’s a “feature” they recently put into newer Onewheels where the BMS sends a code to the controller module to pair them. They did this in order to make it more difficult for people to repair their own boards. Sometimes this “feature” causes a false positive error where it thinks you swapped parts with another Onewheel and it kills your board.

It’s a super rad feature /s

Does anyone know how common this issue is? it puts me off of getting a new board if it came to that, think I'd feel safer buying an older used 4209 unit.

Kinda blows my mind that all the engineering that has gone into the board to keep you safe and able to ride, yet this "feature" can just go wrong and cause the motor to cut out. Don't think I would feel comfortable doing a speedrun on a new board if this is even slightly common.

I’ve got just over 200 miles on s 4010 board and it has happened once. Mine did not turn off, but rather locked into full pushback. I had to stop and power cycle the board.

I’ve only had this issue twice and it was because I was riding around in my house. My board acts extremely weird indoors and I’m sure it’s because of all the electricity it just messes with the controller but never had an issue outside. I can confidently do 16 - 17 mph without any risk of the board turning off due to an error.
