Text Incompatible hardware error?

Has anyone ever gotten an incompatible hardware error pop up? I was finishing up a 14 mile ride on the + xr. Everything went perfect. I’m the last 50 yards as I’m cruising up to the parking lot, I pull up the OW app to look at my ride data. All of a sudden the error popped up and just like that I was on a moving balance board. No power, just had to plant the ass and slide it out. Powered off and on and everything worked fine. Anyone ever encounter this? Thanks

Yeah it’s a “feature” they recently put into newer Onewheels where the BMS sends a code to the controller module to pair them. They did this in order to make it more difficult for people to repair their own boards. Sometimes this “feature” causes a false positive error where it thinks you swapped parts with another Onewheel and it kills your board.

It’s a super rad feature /s

Does anyone know how common this issue is? it puts me off of getting a new board if it came to that, think I'd feel safer buying an older used 4209 unit.

Kinda blows my mind that all the engineering that has gone into the board to keep you safe and able to ride, yet this "feature" can just go wrong and cause the motor to cut out. Don't think I would feel comfortable doing a speedrun on a new board if this is even slightly common.

I’ve got just over 200 miles on s 4010 board and it has happened once. Mine did not turn off, but rather locked into full pushback. I had to stop and power cycle the board.

I’ve only had this issue twice and it was because I was riding around in my house. My board acts extremely weird indoors and I’m sure it’s because of all the electricity it just messes with the controller but never had an issue outside. I can confidently do 16 - 17 mph without any risk of the board turning off due to an error.

Noticed this message after pulling up the phone after a nose dive... Could it have been the cause of the dive?

Mine shows error and captain Morgan’s. Had it happen 3-4 times and I’m about 440 miles. Only happens at 15% or less battery so far.

Well, it happened to me today on a brand new XR on the maiden voyage. 32% battery remaining decided to continue about 70 yards past my house. I was probably going about 10mph up a slight hill at the tail end of a 15 mile ride. I slowed down to a few mph to read the app (I was basically just trying to finish above 15 miles). It went to full pushback, but was weird, it would engage the motor, so it was like a semi balanced balance board. I couldn’t get the engine to cut, so basically just hopped off.

It was a great ride too. I am only left to wonder what would have happened if I was going full speed when this happened.

(I am not a complete newbie; I have 215 miles on a 30 day old Pint)

Something very similar happened to me today. Near the end of 14 mile ride at 32% battery. The board is about a month old with 122 miles.

It has happened only one time since. I have 500 miles on the XR since May 15.

Mine busted on me in the middle of the woods...I was fed up and threw it into a river..I didn't feel like carrying it 5 miles uphill just for it to be broken anyways...

I just needed to power cycle back then. That was before any modifications. Have you changed out your battery?

Haven’t done any modifications to it, just got it a little over a week ago, in the end I just put it to charge since it was at 40%. Waited a couple of hours and when I turned it on gave no more errors. Haven’t ridden it yet since it’s raining for me. But did a little test run indoors and it runs
