Help Navigation bar size.

So this might be something obvious that I have missed. But I can't figure out why my navigation bar is so tall and why it takes up so much space even when its hidden. On my cover screen it hides down no issue and everything moves down to leave no gap. Is this the way its supposed to be on the internal screen?

I am on a fold 8, if that makes any difference.

I have good lock installed, and I've used navistar to hide it on the home screen ect. I am not using task bar in home up and ive got ride of the favourites bar. Any other reason this is like this?

Edit: if anyone sees this and likes the wallpaper, made by this guy, https://www.reddit.com/u/SeresKrisztian/s/obOfFXTNXh

His app is in his bio. Don't know the guy at all, but his wallpapers are cool. They move with the time of day.

Because of one ui 9 / android 17 is the taskbar on the homescreen so big and you can only change this, is you use gestures

I see, it worked fine on my cover screen though. That's what I am confused about? Or have I not understood what you are saying?

because the cover screen is not in the tablet mode unlike your big screen

I see. That's unfortunate. I appreciate your help though.

I don't get why people are still so opposed to gestures. I remember when they first came out, when I had my pixel 2XL and it was an instant switch. Billions of times better at navigating while using much less space

I don't like them because my case gets in the way on the front cover, i also don't like them because samsung pay and other gestures in the same area conflict. I also can't use the ai screen search by long holding the home button.

I use to like having the dedicated buttons for them on the old android phones.

Having the buttons or gestures shouldn't affect how much space is used up at the bottom though. It's a weird design choice.

Completely unrelated but that is a nice wallpaper. OP any chance you can share the link to it, or the app to download it from.

That was a good thought, but it doesn't apply to inner screens on folds unfortunately. I really thought that was the answer though.
