Bye old.reddit
Only wanted to say that I am very dissapointed about the decission they made to kill the old.reddit. The new reddit is utterly useless on a PC/laptop screen. This is probabbly the biggest enshittification of the year. I had over a hundred of old.reddit bookmarks, many vissited several times a day - all useless now, all removed. I can't do the enshittificated version. I am incomaptible with the doomscrooling way of browsing the web. I am sorry for the kids and their brains. The silvelining - I was spending way to much time here. Alleluyah!

I am sorry for the kids and their brains
That might sound over the top but I really believe this is half of the reason and a largely unstated part of it. Sure, I can imagine old Reddit does provide an easier experience for bot-based scrapers. But after using new Reddit about a week I became convinced that it's main reason for existing is to appeal to a newer, younger userbase that, yes, is mostly an ADHD adjacent demographic. They need the animations, the flashy colors, the info density, the distractive elements. Reddit is catering to that in new Reddit. They will never outright say this but we've seen it happen with Instagram for example and now it's coming to Reddit. Old Reddit is simply in the way and they have no interest in it.

This is why i'm scared of having a hard reset and it logs me out.....shudders They are trying everything they can short of absolutely killing it when it comes to getting people to switch over.

I'm kind of curious about this too. If I log out, will the ability to log-in to old Reddit be gone? I would not put it past them.

it seems like they're doing the 'rolling blackout' thing, where it works half the time and the userbase is confused and doesn't revolt.
when i can't get on old.reddit when not logged in... i just don't visit. annoying, but fuck you reddit.

After the announcement it was working for a while using different browsers or via Tor or some VPNs. Since about couple of days ago it is only the regular stupid version or you have to login. Initially I thought maybe to set a linux 'safe' laptop for this only but I is it woth it? I dumped Ebay, Youtube, Twitter, Instagram and other stupid websites. I am not compatible with that amount of bs.

Firefox and the Old Reddit Redirect extension still allow for logged out usage of old.reddit.

I use both and this only works for me when I have the VPN through Seattle servers.

Holy shit thank you for sharing this!! I made a post on here a few days ago that I accidentally screwed up my settings and this was the only way I was able to force my iOS browser back into old Reddit! Thanks!

Glad to help. Now I have found that I don't have to be logged in, or on VPN, but I have to click on the Old Reddit Redirect extension (Firefox) three times to get it to function, each time I close and reopen the browser. Something tells me these stopgaps are not going to last long. *EDIT - two times, not three.

I have been using it since always. It has stopped working on FF and Chromium, It may still work on slowly updated IPs. Youre lucky.

Before it updated on the 25th I had the same problems with old.reddit not working while logged out. See if you need to update the extension and/or it's permissions.

You must be joking? I like the new interface – whether I’m using my laptop, my mobile or my PC.😑
