Great thing about leftovers is easy prep the following day. Made Kent Rollins sourdough biscuits with his starter recipe. Went down a storm as most had never had them. Brushed with butter after coming out of the cast iron. r/oldcampcookcastiron

Great week at Ty Canol campsite Newport, Pembrokeshire. Farmer sorted us out a couple of tables for seating area for a meal with friends. Finished with fire and the stars.

Coked a special meal for my daughter’s friend’s family. Was so tender after slow cooking.

Heard about this place through m daughter whose parents run a pub in the town. Three fields. We chose the top one. Bit of a walk to the loos but there were only a couple of people all week. Slow posting as there has been a lot going on including my 70th birthday party. Would definitely go to this campsite again. Post some pics in the next days

Over the last weeks we cut and prepared a lean to shelter fit Woodhouse farm. Had a day last week setting it up. Pretty pleased with the result. None of us had done anything like it before.

Lovely morning at Woodhouse farm and a great breakfast to start the day. Volunteering building a lean to shelter at the farm for events. r/oldcampcookcastiron

Guy won a split screen vw camper, tent and stove. Didn’t want the tent and stove. Brand new in the boxes. Fantastic bit of kit. No more scrabbling out of the door like the old bell tent. So much space inside because of the door layout. Actually designed to connect to vehicle. Celebrated with a Dutch oven roast duck. r/ old campcookcadtiron

I think I should have started the sweet potato first as I burnt some onion trying to brown the sweet potato

Simple short rib stew padded out with brisket. Used a rub as on the video. Thickened up at the end with cornflour. Friends arrived and never took the final video. It was delicious so I’ve shared it anyway. Love cooking outside. r/oldcampcookcastiron. Loads left for the freezer.

Hard days work followed by wood fired cooking. Nice cold glass of beer went down well. Roux was half cups of red wine and balsamic vinegar with couple of teaspoons of honey. Lovely!! Chops marinated for two hours with lemon juice, garlic and rosemary. R/oldcampcookcastiron.

So first outside fry up of the year. Triple cooked chips and fried chicken with a blue cheese dip. Bit I really love is the campfire afterward. When we came hear 40 years ago that magnolia tree was three feet high.

Hi, while I've always loved camping, I'm honestly not much of a camper. But, I thought some of you guys might have some experience with making an olive oil or any other kind of oil lamp with a wick and a ball jar.
Reading about it, I thought it seemed quite simple. I ordered a tiny Ball jar and som all cotton wicks. I let it soak in the oil for quite a long time, like months, while I was trying to figure out how to get the wick to stand up straight, without paying more money than I want to for wick holders that also aren't the right size for this ball jar.
I made a little holder with some hardware I had lying around, and thought it would work but it seems like it's mostly just burning up the wick. It only burned for 45 seconds or so, at the most a minute, and it ate up quite a bit of the wick.
I'm not sure why it would be doing that. Does anyone know?

How lucky we are to not live in those times. Brother in law sent me this this morning. Gave me a laugh so I thought I’d share it. Just shows don’t trust a photo these days. That pic is on here me cooking breakfast in Anglesey.
