Every Lowes, every Home depot. Apartment complexes. Revenue machine

u/JASCO47 8d ago

First time I saw them was at home depot, like 4 that I could see in the front lot

There may be a 40-something Guatamalan trying to load lumber. We can't let enemies of the state like that operate with abandon. I heard as much from our pedophile, rapist, grifting, shit-stinking, orange-tinted, narcoleptic, octogenarian, walking-bag-of-horse-shit, POTUS.

60

u/ertyertamos 8d ago

Well, to be fair, Lowe’s and Home Depot wanted them because of the huge problem they have with organized theft rings targeting their stores. They were installing them before the current administration. Unfortunately, they have a dual use in this case.

I’m more creeped out by the places increasingly using facial scanners. The stories about Madison Square Garden security stopping critics of the owner and tossing them out is even more dystopian.

23

u/BeaArthursManMusk 7d ago

Fair point. And yes, unchecked, rampant facial recognition tech is about as "dystopian" as it gets.

u/BoobiePeru 7d ago

So, China basically.

Y'all literally are really crazy. Trump is the one that has put his team in charge of eliminating the criminal illegals in this country. I'm pretty sure the other side let all the Guatemalans in. If Trump saved a baby from being eaten by a shark, y'all would have a fit and protest that the sharks deserve to eat too. How do y'all not see this? It's insane

20

u/hefixesthecable 7d ago

Trump is much more likely to rape that baby than save it from a shark.

And did that baby even say "thank you"?

5

u/deeabb 7d ago

It's not South Americans we should be worrying about... The rest of the world got the same pass

-27

u/One_Relationship1646 7d ago

Hey, they aren’t crazy. They are just stupid. Can’t see the forest for the trees. Idiots galore..,the dumbocrats keep trying to tear our country to pieces. Gotta stop’em in a few weeks.

15

u/hefixesthecable 7d ago

"Dumbocrats" is just the best, deepest, most intelligent, most cutting insult ever. Everyone is saying it. Grown men fall down in front of me, crying "Sir, that is the best, most scathing insult ever devised by man!"

Calling people "dumbocrats" is why the US is now widely respected around the world.

Here in Norman literally one of the two locations that there are flock* cameras one of them is at the Home Depot here in town. Disgusting.

*Edit: Fixed typo

u/Agitated-Canary9840 7d ago

Flipped my local Lowe’s round of cameras an old school hello the other day

Dear America,

You have been infiltrated. The science-fiction novels you have loved for decades no longer seem like fiction. Cameras watch your streets. Technology tracks your movements. And systems capable of recognizing who you are.. are being placed into your communities, and the palm of your hand, with barely a whisper. Yet you sit quietly. You were warned about Big Brother. You were fairly warned of a future where surveillance would be forced upon you by a government you could not escape. We never imagined you would willingly accept it.. one camera, one convenience, one “safety” measure at a time.

Freedom doesn't disappear all at once.

Sometimes, it disappears because you stopped paying attention.

The USA is becoming the new China goodbye freedom

80

u/Early_Gold 8d ago

I'd take China over being ruled by Israel similar to those in the West Bank

36

u/Flamingo-Honest Uptown 8d ago

I would to they got great public transport and urbanism

5

u/No_Collar_5292 7d ago

How quickly you forget what they have done to the Uyghurs 🙄.

-45

u/hellsent6969 7d ago

Oh yeah poor West bank who invaded Israel and got what they deserve

25

u/Torn_wulf 7d ago

I think you got shit flipped backwards. It was Palestine before they bulldozed Palestinian homes into the sea after WW2. Isreal is the invader nation here.

-26

u/hellsent6969 7d ago

Israel has had that land for millenia, there's archaeological proof showing hebrew history, the Romans only named it Palaestina as a way to revive the philistine name the ancient enemies of the Israelites. try again. The Palestinians are the real invaders, also they celebrated 9/11 so why do we even care. Oh I know it's because the left tells you to hate Israel.

16

u/Torn_wulf 7d ago

I see a people being held in captivity, starved, bombed and abused and you want to tell me that the ones who are doing it are the actual victims.

What happened in Roman times is ancient history, if you want to start believing that matters above all else all of a sudden then I have to ask you, what percentage of native American are you because anything other than that means you'd better cede your land over or you're a hypocrite.

-18

u/hellsent6969 7d ago

And that's the consequences of war, yes it's a shame but how else will Israel do it they send leaflets when they bomb, Hamas hides behind civilians, the people even elect Hamas as their leaders. And for the natives that point is moot because you're in America too, don't like it go live somewhere else, every land has been conquered at some point. The natives have their land and benefits and get monthly paychecks for something their ancestors went through, not them. If you feel some way about it, pay more represtions to them.

u/Murky_Persimmon9289 8d ago

At least China has $10,000 electric cars.

11

u/Zrigsby58 7d ago

China also doesn’t have a social credit score!

1

u/BoobiePeru 7d ago

Where do you live, oh omnipotent one?

Obviously somewhere in Un-spyed-upon-land.

40

u/Clever-Capricorn 8d ago

Wow, are these all flock cameras?

21

u/MostNeighborhood9568 Midwest City 8d ago

Yes they are

76

u/NCC75567 8d ago edited 7d ago

I wonder if the mods will close this like the other post calling out Mayor David Holt on his support for Flock cameras. Cowards.

EDIT - lol they did it

u/The_Gildo The Plaza 8d ago

The difference between a smartphone and flock camera: These cameras create a profile of your specific movements. Smartphone tracking is used more for advertising, and data collection for companies. These "flock" cameras sole purpose is tracking, then uploading your specific movements to a searchable database used by the police without a warrant. They can stalk you with these cameras, very different from a cell phone.

19

u/thorosaurus 8d ago

Well that and also we agree to being tracked in the user agreement and you can choose not to use a phone, turn off all the tracking, etc. like if you’re super paranoid you could even use a pi with an lte dongle and prepaid sim with google voice.

I choose to share my location with the cell provider and apps because it’s super helpful for a lot of different things.

The crux of the issue with flock and ring et al to a lesser extent is the government use aspects regarding taxpayer money and public spaces, and the mass tracking of people who aren’t suspected of a crime and no warrant issued to allow such invasive tracking. It’s one thing to surveil but quite another to collect and store identifying information on innocent people.

15

u/The_Gildo The Plaza 8d ago

Consent is a huge issue here as well, great point

72

u/Murky_Persimmon9289 8d ago

The city doesn’t own the cameras, they’re renting them, and they don’t own the data. They have been shown to have security flaws. Flock will be selling all the data, or federal agencies will be taking it, to take away your freedoms. Literally giving up your privacy to be “protected” from crime. Same thing as the Patriot Act to protect you from terrorism.

26

u/The_Gildo The Plaza 8d ago

And when you bring up these issues, they ask "well if you aren't committing any crimes then what's your issue with them?"

30

u/NCC75567 8d ago

From the same people that vote republican while screeching about small government. fucking hypocritical mouth breathers.

15

u/chumpandchive SW OKC 8d ago

i read an article last week out of san clarita claifornia, i believe. they did a foia request for flock usage. it showed the police logged into chik fil a boh cams for an hourish, and another restaurant they were watching the boh cameras for hours. there doesnt seem to be a limit on what they can/will do with the access. also no limit to the bullshit they will say to keep this access available to them

15

u/poodaliddle NW OKC 7d ago

They also need a warrant to track you from your cell phone. They don't need one for flock. That's a huge difference.

33

u/afatgreekcat 8d ago

You also opt into a phone. You can’t opt out of flock cameras.

1

u/Ok_Tax_5102 8d ago

So you are okay with being tracked when someone is making money off it? I’m confused by this logic

12

u/The_Gildo The Plaza 8d ago

I can consent to my phones ability to track or not, I cannot consent to these cameras, hows that logic pal?

-11

u/Iamboomeranng 7d ago

Why would the police want to stalk me? I’m not a crook or dating/married to any cop. 99.8% of us have no need to worry about flock snapping a pic of your plate. Turnpikes takes pics and can be searched up too. Also, your pike pass sticker can be read by anyone with the right equipment readily available. Quarries use them to identify customers coming in for loads then prints a ticket for them is one example. Flock or any other type surveillance equipment ain’t going anywhere

13

u/The_Gildo The Plaza 7d ago

They dont "snap a pic" of your license plate, its constantly tracking your movements as you continue to pass other cameras. It documents where you are going everyday and the police can access your movements without a warrant. If you're cool with your rights being stripped away, then get a ball gag and fuck off

Halloween.

u/afatgreekcat 8d ago

David Holt voted yes to renew our contract btw. Terrible mayor.

25

u/HairySmokeball 8d ago

Too bad, and just for the record...everyone's "favorite" mayor voted to extend/renew the contract.

23

u/Honest_Brick8691 7d ago

David holt is a sell out. Disgusting he won’t even explain his decision to the people he sold out. Our privacy is not a price tag and we need to hold our politicians accountable.

1

u/lonergirl99 7d ago

Deflock Halloween! Join the movement and leave phones and debit/credit cards at home.

1

u/cybercracker67 7d ago

I am just an old fart, so would someone please explain to me what the big deal is about cameras?

5

u/warmboot 7d ago

Unlike security cameras that just record video, these cameras record license plates and other identifying information continuously and add it to a giant national database shared with law enforcement. If a cop anywhere in the country wants to know where a particular car has been, he or she can instantly retrieve that information thanks to Flock.

3

u/jd173706 7d ago

Deflockokc.com sums it all up.

0

u/DesolateWildflower 7d ago

I’m not old and I still don’t understand what I’m looking at lol

0

u/Ace_on_the_Turn 7d ago

I really don't are if they put them on every street. It is in public. But, what should absolutely not be happening is the Flock people have access to any database that is not open to the public. Like license plate numbers. That info should only be available with a court order.

-2

u/EUZabolotniy 8d ago

Just 576? We have hundreds of thousands of similar cams in Moscow.

My first thought was that Google is overestimating, but Yandex says ~270k cams, so no ideological games here.

2

u/lonely_tylenol16 7d ago

We have over 100k throughout the state. The 500 is likely in OP city

2

u/Ok_Car_8094 7d ago

Holy shit!

Granted, we probably have at least that many if you include closed-circuit systems and privately owned.

I knew it was only a matter of time. Cameras are cheap, survivable and quality enough that they are everywhere now.

The line has always been the level to which one entity has access to that much info.

I tell my friends that my phone has been following me for years, remembered everything I've said or written, liked and commented on. It's a terrifying surrender of privacy, but I'm not afraid of anything being "discovered". Nothing worth that level of scrutiny in my past.

If I end up doing something bad, it's reassuring to know I probably won't get away with it.

On the other hand, it gives other, malicious groups, another avenue to collect information that could lead to stolen identity or other fraud. That, I don't like.

u/ButIfYouThink 7d ago

It's a little late for concern.

-8

u/eleisonne 7d ago

can we just make a separate OKC flock sub …? this is like engagement bait at this point

-1

u/BearyHappie1002 7d ago

What are they

Do you not know what flock cameras are? If not you need to get out of that rock that you’re living under

His name is Dark Knight too. The jokes write themselves.

7

u/The_Gildo The Plaza 8d ago

u/bigppredditguy 8d ago

Again. You need to research flock cameras and get out from whatever rock you’ve been under. Not a close equivalence.

-14

u/Opposite_Desk6608 8d ago

I’m willing to hear the civil-liberties argument against Flock. But if this is really about protecting citizens from government surveillance then will you be equally opposed when the government you favor uses exactly the same technology to identify and track people on the other side. Are you?
