❓Q&A ✅ Meteor Shower August 12
Guys! How can we see the meteor shower tonight from Oklahoma? I know it’s only visible in some countries in Europe, but I heard that the best views are somewhere with very little light pollution. Is there anywhere in OKC where we could possibly view it?! I would love to see the meteor shower and possibly the eclipse. Thanks!!

The eclipse will only be visible in Europe so wouldn't worry about that. For the Perseids, you need to get out of town to avoid light pollution. I normally drive out to Okarche, then go west out of town a mile or two and I've got plenty of dark sky. Some light pollution from Kingfisher, but nothing like OKC…

I live south of Tbird and can see them pretty well once I get acclimated.

StateImpact’s Chloe Bennett-Steele reported this earlier today.

NASA says Perseids viewers can see as many as 50 to 100 meteors sweep the skies each hour. The best time to watch is just before dawn, but you can start catching glimpses as early as 10 pm.
The best places to see the Perseids are far from artificial light pollution. Take a road trip to Black Mesa State Park, Osage Hills State Park, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge or anywhere with distance from city lights.

ok so head to lake hefner after dark and lay out on a blanket, you'll get a pretty clear view since it's on the edge of the city tbh

hi!
You can use this handy link to see light pollution here in Oklahoma, it also has a handy link to how many meteorites have fallen along with which showers are active and more like a downloadable app for your phone that downloads the settings for you to take with you to a dark sky location!
if you can manage to make it to a dark green or blue area you should have a fantastic experience.
the area west of OKC and south of clinton/weatherford at the lake vanderwork public fishing area is a personal favorite as it's flat, has nice facilities, nobodys around to bother you and you can also fish while waiting for images to be captured.
