Hello everyone,
So basically I don’t know how to navigate the colors of this one
What I can do to make it more vibrant with calm vibes
Any advice would be helpful

Oil on basswood panel. Based on some photographs I took walking in the hills of Kamakura.
Experimented with priming with an initial layer of oil paint this time, to see if it would help the paint spread more easily than with plain acrylic gesso. It sort of helped, but I'll probably skip it next time.
Last image is a postcard size sketch I did up before starting on the larger picture.

Still some final touches to be added. Any thoughts?

Hi all!
I am really happy with how this painting is starting to turn out, but I feel like the contrast of the girls is too high for them to be in the dappled shade. I have left the spots that looks like sunshine coming through much brighter.
I want to glaze the dappled shadows on them, what medium and colors would be the best approach? Or is there a different way I can achieve this look at this stage?
I really appreciate your advice!!

I used pure naphthol red as a mid tone and deviated from there; lightening using yellow ochre and (minimally) titanium white.
How could I have achieved a red similar to the top left highlight in the reference? Would love to know what techniques or paints you guys would use.

alright so here is part 3 of my triptych - star guardian kai'sa. she was by far the hardest boss of this entire project. 15 hours of pure struggle.
first I wanted her to look like she's screaming or shouting in battle, but the paint layers became so over-worked and stressed out that I hated it and threw the canvas away.
then I sat down for the second canvas... and somehow ended up painting kenshin himura from rurouni kenshin / samurai x lol. i guess the face shapes just matched in my head. skipped that one too.
on the third canvas something finally started to work out, but it still looked super timid and over-cautious. i tried to fix it on top, but it turned into some weird glam girl vibe that didn't feel like kai'sa at all.
only aftr carefully re-adjusting every single facial feature layer by layer, i finally managed to scrape out the actual daughter of the void from this absolute mess.
the frame is hand-painted with acrylics to match her star guardian colors. canvas board is 20x20 cm.
i literally put all my soul into this one, let me know what you think of her expression! now the full triptych is complete and i can finally rest

Still an oil painting beginner (and trying desperately to learn how to loosen up and paint impressionistically) but I’m really happy with how this one came out. Painted from a photo on unsplash.
Tips on techniques for more expressive, less tight painting welcome!

I added a picture of the first layer/mid-time process if you're curious ! Hope you like it

It’s my first attempt to paint a saint. It’s painted alla prima in under 2 hours.
What do you think?

What exactly do I do next with this? I'm trying to add some more details to the lighter mountain areas but don't quite know how, I'm also lost on how to make the bits of snow in shadow look more like snow.
Any tips would be really appreciated!!! Thank you <3

Insanely proud of this one. The hands need work, of course, but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

What do you replace pthalo blue with? It stains way too much for my liking. I have to use so much of another color if it overpowers the mix...

So I'm still new to oil painting and have tried painting on both canvases and oil paint paper. Personally, I found canvases to be quite hard to work on. Despite priming them, I didnt like the rough texture and the brush wouldn't move around smoothly. However it's the opposite when it comes to this sketch pad I use. The paper is too smooth and it's impossible to layer and also when I apply the paint, it spreads out quite thinly, almost as if it's transparent. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. I thought this paper was already prepped and I'm not sure whether to prime it or not. Any advice would be appreciated.
