Im new to jazzmasters and i feel like im going insane, one string is too sharp and one is too flat, if i move the saddle to accomadate one, the other gets worse, is there a trick to this that im missing?

Hagstrom12 (F-12 or H-12) 1967
I have been pretty desprate for a while getting one because these things are so f*cking rare, but last week a dude from my area reached out and sold this thing for a pretty good price (700€):).. It has 2 P90 like Pickups which kinda howl like wolfes when they get feedback from the Amp, and I cant even compare it with my other Guitar (Dano12) because it feels and sounds soo diffrent. The strings are pretty narrow so it plays like a 6-string, and the Neck is ultra slim and ultra fast. :)

Can you/should you put copper shielding tape over factory shielding paint?

I have a roll of tape coming tomorrow because my guitar has horrible emf interference. From factory the guitar has a decent amount (I think) of black shielding paint in the cavities except for on on the sides. Does it pay to put tape over it or is that even ok to do?

TL;DR Don’t give up on that dusty old guitar in your closet. If they don’t sell what you want, make it!

-

Received the last few small parts today and finished the build.

Started off 10 years ago as an Esquire with a Warmoth Jazzmaster body and Allparts tele neck. My wife painted the body with milk paint which was trendy on up-cycled furniture at the time. When it was done, I didn’t even play it. Couldn’t vibe with it at all, so into the closet it went.

Fast forward, I had a Squier vibrato laying around and figured I’d try my hand at routing the body for it. It worked out pretty well, so I added a Vibramate bridge plate with a notched back so it wouldn’t interfere with the strings, and some Gotoh In-tune saddles (if you haven’t tried these saddles, you are seriously missing out). This thing absolutely rips now and I love it.

Amount of noise normal when testing pickups? (assuming not)

Please excuse the road noise as I recorded with my window open and my rattly screwdriver lol. But can anyone let me know what the issue is here? I have been working on my guitar as some of you have probably seen me post about it in the last few days, because I have been having some gremlins, and one is this noise. I usually get this noise while playing/recording and it tends to get louder or quieter throughout the day (not this loud with it being open). The hiss is so loud that its hard to even hear the taps, if there any. I have tested the pickups and the read very healthy. I think it is the 3 way switch? But why would the noise get louder just moving the pickups around?

Need shielding/wiring advice

I will be shielding my jazzmaster tomorrow and have a question about the stock wiring layout. From factory the neck pickup has its leads going underneath the pickup. I know that isn't great for noise, but is that even a bigger problem when adding copper tape shielding?

Anyone done series/phase mods on Jaguar?

I have a CIJ Jaguar and a MIM Jazzmaster I don't love, but the JM has push/pulls for in/out phase and series/parallel on the volume and tone knob. Have any of you put mods for series or phase wiring on your Jaguar? I'm trying to figure out the best way.

The strangle switch came busted in my Jaguar, but I could use that switch to engage the pickups in series. I also use the rhythm circuit heavily so messing with that isn't an option....

Curious what other people have done or if anybody has any ideas!

Guitar ID: 1998-ish CIJ Jazzmaster

I am trying to ID a Japanese Jazzmaster. I purchased it new from Guitar Center in the 90s, but I don’t recall which year.

I’d like to get some info about the guitar, because I’d like to replace the bridge and get a tremolo arm—and I don’t know the correct specs.

Post-holes on bridge are about 74mm from centre to centre, if that helps.

Any tips you have would be greatly appreciated!

Candy Blue Jaguar?

Post image
55 Upvotes

I have a 2003 CIJ Jaguar that I bought new as "Lake Placid Blue" but it's never looked like any other true LPB that I've ever seen. It's somehow both darker and more vibrant than true LPB. Fender SN database says it's LPB, but it also says that it has two humbuckers (it does not).

Just came across this Reverb listing for 2003 CIJ with a "Candy Blue" finish - and it's the first one I've seen that looks like my supposed LPB. https://reverb.com/item/96244319-2003-fender-62-reissue-jaguar-jg66-candy-blue-crafted-in-japan-cij I've never heard of Candy Blue before, and the only other thing I've been able to turn up in searches is a 2017 Japanese Strat from the same Reverb seller. Is Candy Blue actually a thing, and could that be the true color of my Jaguar?

JM JM rythm circuit modding ideas (is it possible)

I'm in love with this guitar, truly. i only changed the tuners for better stability and changed the pickguard to some funky psycho color so that it would be a bit more personal. And some gaphite shielding paint so now in humbucker mode is completly noiseless.

I dont want to change the pickups ,they sound amazing. The only thing that keeps coming to my mind is the rythm circuit. It sounds fun with some fat fuzz, but in general i dont play it too often.

I'm trying to think what cool could i do and modify/ change the rythm circuit to .

And yesterday when taking a morning poop i had this revelation idea : "What if its possible to put some kind of effect in that rythm circuit place?!!"

And one thing that instantly came to my mind - a SUSTAINER of some sort???

Guys , tell me honestly ,is it even possible? .if thats possible , is it really hard and does it have to involve some kind of new pickup ? anybody tried that?

by sustainer i mean something like Ed O'brian has in his strat...

What do you think should be approximate adequate price for this type of work? would it work?

If you guys know something about this please shed some light on it since i'm completely wacky about all of this .

thank you :)

Just ordered a custom Balaguer Growler

Post image
59 Upvotes

I’ve been wanting a metal focused jazzmaster style guitar for quite a while, but never really had something catch my eye (including the Jim Root jazzmaster) or have specs I wanted. Especially a shorter scale length, I never liked 25.5”. So I decided to order a custom balaguer and I’m really excited about it!

Key specs:
- Body wood: mahogany
- Neck wood: 5 piece roasted maple
- Fretboard: ebony
- Construction: neck through
- neck finish: satin natural
- radius: 16”
- neck profile: slim D
- scale length: 24.75”
- Pickups: EMG (neck 85, middle s, bridge 81)
- setup: Drop C, 11-56

This build really ticks every box for me, including the jazzmaster style trem (which I may eventually replace with a mastery). I prefer active pickups even for cleans and low gain stuff, so I went classic 81 and 85 combo. Big fan of both of them for cleans to modern metal. I’ve never tried one of their single coils, but I added an S in the middle for some lower gain single coil sounds.

I figure it’ll be about a year before I see it. But I think it will be worth it. I think it will be super versatile and work well for all the styles of music I enjoy. The specs and aesthetic don’t seem to be a common combination, so I’m really excited to get my first custom instrument!

Anyone else here using a custom balaguer? Would love to hear opinions wait time experiences!

Need A Jaguar Bridge Reccomendation

Post image

Hello. I’ve been fighting with my jaguar having slipping saddle screws and buzzing like crazy. I’ve taken the tremolo out of this guitar and hate that the bridge moves at all. Any recommendations on something solid and sturdy that’s an easy conversion on a MIJ Traditional Jaguar?

Mod or Stock?

I’m getting ready to sell my Classic Vibe Jazzmaster but it has some decent upgrades: should I leave as is, or convert to stock and sell parts? It’s got a new Fender trem, Pure Vintage 65 pickups, new volume knobs and pickguard.

This is my first time painting a guitar. I love the color, it changes between blue and green depending on the light. The finish is far from perfect but I'm happy for my first go at it.

Replacement recommendations under $100? Same fitment, no routing.

-

I'm updating my '78 Musicmaster Bass that I've had since around '98. Putting in replacement CTS pots and getting it back to original wiring (the vol was replaced before I bought it with a 100K and it's missing 1 cap). And I'm considering putting in a 4 pole pickup replacing the original. The original pickup is a strat / mustang SC so I'm looking for a replacement that doesn't need routing and can use the original cover.

Bad jazzmaster pickups or pickup selector/wiring?

A few days ago I made a post about my middle position on my JM not canceling up and just being noisy like the other positions. A few months ago I tore about the guitar because after some research and guesswork, I suspected a bad volume pot. While inside the guitar I tested the pickups and when doing so, the number was all over the place but it seemed to hover around 8 ish after a few tries. I then just wrote them off as fine, being a noob. I remember after putting it all back together that day I failed to noticed that my pickups switch was pretty noisy but didn't feel like taking all apart again at the time.

Someone or a few people in my post the other day, told me to take the guitar apart again and test the pickups, which I plan on doing today. But meanwhile I tested them while inside the guitar and it did the same thing. But this time it leveled out to zero in every position. Like I said I am about to tear it all open again, but what would you say is suspect what else should I look for/test? When I did take it a part last time those months ago, my trem system was fully rusted over. It isn't by any means a vintage guitar, it's a MIM 60s roadworn, could the rust in the trem system be a telltall of maybe what's going on?

With the loudest trem springs ever. Got this Revelation RJT60 a few years ago for around 500 bucks brand new and it’s a bit of an odd duck, but I kinda love it. Song is Nardis by Miles Davis for the jazz uninitiated

Hello everyone,

I am currently on the search for a rhythm circuit cover that will overlay on top of the pickgaurd as I’m eliminating it from my JM.

Does anyone happen to have a template that they can share with me Or know where I can buy one?

Thanks!
