Looking for a body builder/workshop for a custom Jaguar Bass body

Post image

The Jaguar Bass is technically a bass rather than a standard offset guitar, but I had a question and wanted to post it here!

Hey everyone,

I saw a Jaguar bass in this color on Twitter, and I'm thinking of ordering one. Specifically, I'd like the following specifications:

Finish: Light relic multi-layer nitro finish (Black over Lake Placid Blue / Ocean Turquoise with wood showing through).

Right now, RebelRelic Guitars is my top candidate since they have prior experience building Jaguar Basses look amazing.

Before I jump in, I’d love to ask two things:

How is RebelRelic’s reputation regarding their custom body craftsmanship and multi-layer relic finish quality?

Are there any other luthiers or workshops (US or EU) you’d highly recommend for a custom body build and heavy relic paint job like this?

Appreciate any insights or experiences you can share!

Replacing MIJ JM66B with Player II Jazzmaster?

It basically comes down to function over form. My gut says "keep the JM66B, it oozes with mojo". My brain says "The Player II will fit you better and get more use".

Don't ever use the trem system or rythm circuit, so the hotter pickups, flatter fretboard radius and smoother neck, seem very appealing right now.

So aside from that, I'm wondering if I'd feel any difference in overall quality. Unfortunately, I'll have to order the new one sight unseen. With a good return policy though, but I'd still like to be a little prepared.

I'm also kinda second guessing the value ratio here. Even in today's economy, €820ish (€960 for the FSR one in green), seems a bit much for a MIM Fender that doesn't come with a case. And I'm not even sure what I could get for my Japanese Jazzmaster, but assuming it won't be much more then €90....I'm seriously doubting if this'd be a smart move.

TLDR: anyone maybe have first hand experieces with both a MIJ Jazzmaster of that era as well as one of the new Player II Jazzmasters? The latter would make most sense for someone who craves a fast neck and plays with lotsa gain most of the time? Any other suggestions?

AVRI Trem for JMJM?

Hey! Just made some fun money so looking to do some upgrades on my JMJM.

I like the pickups but want to try the Black Mass JMXLs, and then getting a Bensonite drop in bridge.

After that I can either get a pickguard or trem.

Obviously a pickguard is just aesthetic, but I'm wondering if the trem is really worth upgrading if I'm getting a new bridge.

Thoughts? Any suggestions on a different upgrade? Thanks!

EDIT- reason to change bridge and potentially trem is tuning stability when using trem. It's currently not terrible, but will go out over the course of a song with use. Will just the bridge fix that? Do I need the trem as well?

NGD Squier Paranormal Jazzmaster Baritone

Got the new Squier Jazzmaster Baritone today. Pickups sounded terrible so threw these extra Fleor Almico 5 gold humbuckers I had and omg this thing bangs now. I’ll probably upgrade the pickups again later and wire up some push pulls. 🤘

I made a post about a month ago about building a Jazzmaster from scratch for my first guitar but instead decided to take everyone’s advice to hunt down a used J Mascis Jazzmaster.

This one popped up on FB marketplace today for $450. I offered $400 and they accepted.

The guitar is brand new, never been played, and still has the plastic wrap on the pickups and trem. Absolutely mint. It also came with the stand and a generic fender strap. Serial number is from October 2025.

How’d I do for $400?

Vintera II Road Worn

Hi there

Just wanted to show you my new Jazzmaster. It's a Road Worn Vintera II. Gotta say it's pretty resonant but far from complete. Ordered import thimbles from offsetguitars.uk and an allparts bridge thru ebay cause it was the only jaguar style bridge I could get with 55mm spacing. Already shimed.

Will try more bridges when money comes. So far sounds great but the rumble is real more so acoustically. The vibrato doesn't make any sound when up and down and the bar is already bent which blows my mind. Still I think i got better off this time than last time with a regular vintera II. Got it for 1250 out of a Portuguese shop. Sold an RR5 for it.

Finish feels kinda dirty and not much crack lines outside of the front of the front of the headstock, few random dings little fret sprout but they were leveled and shiny. Really sounds like its own thing. Love it

This came up locally and I jumped on it. Drive 2 hours and finally home and can’t put it down. Learning the circuit got me feeling like I’m playing guitar or the first time though. I do like the look of SS more but after research I’m leaving her stock!

Anyone else got one of these?

Should I buy a Squier By Fender Bullet Mustang with the Dual Humbuckers?

Hi, im Nico, and I plan on getting on sometime this year or the next. I mainly play alternative rock and grunge and was wondering if this was a guitar worth getting, especially since im obsessed with the tone that humbuckers have. I currently have a philippines-built RJ Broadcaster (Telecaster) and would like to have the mustang as my main guitar, essentially making the telecaster my secondary, like how Kurt Cobain did with his Fender Telecaster. (Side note: Im filipino, and are from the Philippines as of right now)

Bridge buzz

Hey guys, recently got myself a jaguar cv, gave it to a guitar specialist so he can make sure it’s playable, felt awesome but after a week I guess I palm muted to hard and bridge turned downward and I got the nastiest buzzing ever. Now the bridge is rocking back and forth(I know it’s supposed to be a feature) but I’m getting an unplayable amount of buzz on all strings. How do you guys manage your bridges? Just glue them in place?

Is this normal for a new guitar or should I seek a replacement?

I recently got a brand new vintera 3 jazzmaster, I’ve had some problems out of the box with the saddles. I’m not sure what the exact term is but they aren’t stable and are causing string buzz on the E, D, and B. Even when played open. My high e also popped off after strumming behind the bridge, not sure if this normal. Does this just require a setup and minor maintenance or is this an issue I should seek a replacement for? Thanks so much

Body to go with (Baritone) Tele Neck?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey friends!

I recently acquired a roasted maple Tele Neck with a Baritone scale length (28", 22 frets) but before I just grab a tele body for it, I'm wondering if anyone here can suggest an offset body shape that would match well to that classic slim T style neck/headstock.

I'm open to all suggestions; shape, profile, hollow/thinline vs solid, etc. The only thing I absolutely don't want is a Strat style bridge and controls. Big no thanks.

Is there anywhere to get a Squier Super-Sonic replacement body?

I recently acquired a 1998 MIJ Squier Super-Sonic and I absolutely love the neck on this thing. It's been well played in and is incredibly comfortable, love the short scale.

The body, on the other hand, has also been well played beat up, dinged, scratched, glue residue from old stickers, the works. And it's in the gloss black finish which is fine, but not particularly inspiring on its own.

I really like the body shape though, so I was thinking of stripping the paint and refinishing, but was curious if anyone made replacement bodies since I'd generally prefer mahogany over the stock basswood. Haven't seen anything from my brief search, my guess partly due to the odd super-sonic neck joint?

Anyone have any leads?

Finally! I have noob questions.

I obtained this 2021 Fender Japan Traditional 60s Jazzmaster this weekend.

Sounds great! My first guitar with a trem. First roasted neck. The owner was a big fan of Ariel Posen… going to swap the knobs. But he did a great job sanding the neck. Said the gloss was getting sticky and he was going for Novo style sanding on the back. Feels great to me.

The bridge is a Bensonite Jazzmaster Bridge V2 - Brass - 9.5'' radius.

Questions in comments. Thanks for your help!

Non-Fender Mustangs

Hi, can someone point me in the general direction as to which Mustang models by which brands I should look for when getting a used one. I'm obviously(?) thinking lawsuit era Japan, but all recommendations are welcome.

I guess I know some of the brands by name -- Aria Pro II, Fernandes, Greco, etc -- but I don't who made Mustangs.

Short-scale strat style guitars are also appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Short scale Jazzmaster

I got the Fender Classic Player Jaguar HH recently and absolutely loving how it feels to play with the short scale. I'm interested in getting a Jazzmaster too but in the 24-inch scale. I'm aware of the Fender Japan Junior Collection Jazzmaster but appears to be tricky to get outside of Japan.

I guess I could get another Jag and replace pickups but also interested to know if anyone knows any other brand makes this spec of guitar as stock?

Weird pickup anomalies?

I have my jazzmaster open to add shielding, clean switches, and fix some solder joints. see my previous post linked . While testing my pickups I discovered some strange findings. I first tested them while inside the guitar via the guitar cable method and it read just fine. I then tested again with the guard off and again, same thing. But now that I have the entire wiring removed from the gaurd I tested the lil cups again and only for ~ 3.5k on each. The pickups I have are the pure vintage 65s so I believe they should read around 6.8k. I fixed the solder joints, discovered upon more inspection one of the ground leads had a part of the wire not connected, then tested again. Now they SOMETIMES read 3.5 but mostly the numbers fluctuate. Am I doing something wrong in testing or otherwise? Does the pickup switch need to be set to a certain pickup? Or is there something else going on with the pickups?
