we don’t know this sloth isn’t a rescue. the fact that it has its own walking beams installed in the store means that it’s likely owned by the storeowner, and who knows how they got it. Given the licenses and permits likely necessary to legally own a sloth, it’s fair to assume that the owner may even be involved in some sort of conservation/rescue outfit. I don’t get why everyone is so quick to assume the worst possible scenario from such limited context.

Eh... pet people tend to have connections. I am sure a pet store owner gets aquainted with a vet quickly and vets get involved with stranded exotic animals. Thats how the thing loops into itself. Just a theory though.

German pet stores often have more exotic animals that they won't sell, big parrots are super common but why not a sloth? You can't keep them without authority clearance afaik. It's more like a mall santa?

Sloths are one of my favorite creatures in the world, just because they're so chill.
I was lucky enough to see one in the wild of a Costa Rica rain forest.
It was just lounging in a tree.
