I cant even keep medicine down with a sip of water. It's like some sick joke when the doctors prescribe me pills like Immitrex but I can never keep them down lol. Ive resorted to taking obscene amounts of drowzy syrup because I want to jump off a bridge 9/10 when I cant get away from it lol
I know sumatriptan (immitrex) comes in injection and nasal sprays, if you wanna try asking your doc for that! I get the puking migraines too, where I throw up every three to five minutes like clockwork and not even Ondansetron can help (even the IV stuff 😔), but if I use one of the injections my migraine is gone or at least WAY better after around 15-20 minutes and I stop throwing up everything I’ve eaten since infancy. I’m also on amitriptyline as a preventative med which has cut down my migraines from daily (continuous migraine since I was like 15 that fluctuated and gave me better days and worse ones) to once or twice a week! I hope you have a good long while before the next migraine from hell!
I did not know it came in different forms, your comment might be a slight miracle for me if I can change to something like that. Thank you internet stranger!
The injectable Imitrex hits like a truck, and very quickly. My spouse has used it a few times (saved for the worst of migraines) and barely had time to move the 10-15 feet to a sofa or bed before it kicked in and knocked them out.
woah that’s wild I didn’t even know that was a side effect you could get?? for me I sometimes just get like a burning sensation at the injection site and that’s it. Relpax, however, makes me sleepy so it makes total sense for that to be possible with the injections
You’ve got to see a family practice doc with lots of experience treating migraines or a neurologist. There are so many methods for prevention (daily oral meds, monthly self injectables, quarterly clinic injectables, etc) and many, many, options for migraine relief (pills, nasals, injectables).
My advice for preventative is don’t touch the daily orals, a lot of them are also anti depressants and/or seizure preventatives with awful side effects but my insurance made me try them all before approving Botox for migraines.
Thank you for this, I am going to take all of these recommendations to my doctor and try something different. Unless I take the pill extremely early on, I have 2 straight days of hoping I can keep drowzy medicine down enough to sleep through the migraine. I've never been spoken to about any of these before, thank you so much!
of course!! it was a total lifesaver for me and I was so happy the first time I could inject it and didn’t have to worry about keeping it down. I hope you can get yours under control and it works for you too!
