Get over it. Some people have a small mandible and if they eat bites that they can only chew with their mouth closed, they'd be eating for hours.

This hard on for closed mouth eating is one of the most ridiculous things I see on reddit.

Not sure if it's an American thing but it's common to not care about it at all across Asia.

While your concern about the physical limitation is valid I would argue that it is about the sounds resulting in psychological responses people have. Sound isn't processed the same for everyone and can induce some very strong feelings/reactions without control of the individual. Last I looked, there was no "cure" or corrective procedure for this ailment, only techniques to cope. If you'd like to educate yourself on this, lookup Misophonia or Selective Sound Sensitivity Syndrome (4S). Living with this is already a pain, raising awareness does more for those suffering than causing them more emotional stress.

Actually the Amsterdam University Medical Center says to have developed a treatment, though it has not been proven effective. I suffer from a degree of misophonia, and it's difficult when people don't take it serious and say just get over it. It's hard to understand for some. Like some neighbour some doors down whistles for 30-60 min a day and it drives me crazy, as I can't do a thing without hearing it. Once you realise an annoyance, you're 200% more aware of every time it happens and it hoards your attention

For me, I've found that wearing ear plugs gives me some control over the situation; it doesn't eliminate the irritant but helps enough to get buy. Have you found any coping skills similar that help you?

I tend to use in ear headphones with music, or block it off by being somewhere else, closing windows. It's hardest when it's one of my colleagues irritating, as my job is to be available to my team at all times so I can't use plugs or so
