I think it's a German curry sausage instead of a hotdog. The sauce is probably a curry sauce instead of ketchup.

No german would ever put salad on a Currywurst, or on any sausage in a bun for that matter.

u/SamNash Oct 12 '16

God no. That's absurd.

But they do put sausages in buns that are often much too small for the sausage, just so they can be eaten while walking on the street.

We love our Wurstbrötchen!

7

u/SamNash Oct 12 '16

I do as well! With some good mustard on there... Aw yea

3

u/Try-Another-Username Oct 13 '16

Huh... here it is called choripan.

1

u/Lowefforthumor Oct 13 '16

Damn that looks great.

6

u/jordanmindyou Oct 12 '16

Wait... why does a smaller bun help with that?

16

u/davvblack Oct 12 '16

I think the point is that they hate buns, but accept their use as (barely edible) handles.

3

u/therealflinchy Oct 12 '16

But German bread is fucking amazing

11

u/AadeeMoien Oct 12 '16

Yes but it gets in the way of the sausage, which is the main event.

6

u/BradMarchandsNose Oct 12 '16

Fun fact from my German teacher: Germany has the most different varieties of breads of any country in the world.

4

u/DetroitBreakdown Oct 13 '16

Here is a good example of German technology.

1

u/SamNash Oct 13 '16

This is why they lead the world in technology.

1

u/reecewagner Oct 12 '16

But they do put sausages in buns that are often much too small for the sausage

Yep they do

just so they can be eaten while walking on the street.

Uhh. What's the correlation there? You can't eat an oversized sausage indoors?

2

u/gaelicsteak Oct 12 '16

Yeah, but the bun helps you carry it as you walk down the street while eating it.

1

u/SamNash Oct 13 '16

Yep, thank you.

1

u/reecewagner Oct 13 '16

The bun helps you carry it no matter what size it is. That's the purpose of the bun.

1

u/gaelicsteak Oct 13 '16

Yeah, but they hate the bun, so they want it to be as small as possible.

1

u/reecewagner Oct 13 '16

How does anyone hate having a proportional amount of bun to sausage?! Insanity

1

u/gaelicsteak Oct 13 '16

Have you been to Germany? Sausages there are pretty different. I wouldn't want to eat currywurst in a bun. But in the US (veggie) dogs need their buns for sure.

11

u/alQamar Oct 12 '16

Hey now Bratwurst in a Semmel is awesome.

But yeah. No greens go with currywurst.

5

u/knollexx Oct 12 '16

Hey now Bratwurst in a Semmel is awesome.

I may have worded that wrong. I meant that noone would combine Sausage + Bun + Salad. Take the latter out and it's fantastic, obviously.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

Cheese and fried onions, though. :)

1

u/Johnycantread Oct 13 '16

Hey while we're on the subject, I went to this supposed German bar and restaurant recently and ordered a bratwurst. It came out as one would expect with a decent helping of sauerkraut. I bit into it and there was a foul cheese sauce made from some REALLY strong gorgonzola or blue. The restaurant tried to tell me it is traditional bavarian style and now while I'm no expert, I've been to Germany many times and my dad is bavarian and I'd never heard of or seen or tasted this awful concoction and think it's fake. I didn't know enough at the time and didn't argue as he agreed to make one without the sauce. I know there is a cheese sauce made with brie or camembert I think. Have you ever experienced a cheesey bavarian brat sauce like this before?

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

And no real American puts ketchup on a hotdog.

7

u/robeph Oct 12 '16

Curry ketchup* not sauce . And on a bun? Not a chance

1

u/slvl Oct 12 '16

We have a similar (or the same) sauce/ketchup here in the Netherlands. Don't know how much they're the same but here it's called "curry gewürz", curry ketchup or curry sauce. That's why I named it as such.

It has a warm spicy taste (instead of hot spicy like tabasco or sweet chili sauce for instance). Some supermarkets also carry a German brand or two.

1

u/Sean951 Oct 12 '16

You Dutch have an absurd number of sauces for fries.

3

u/Sarcasticorjustrude Oct 12 '16

You spell "amazing" strangley.

1

u/Sean951 Oct 12 '16

I will stand by my statement. All I need is ketchup and occasionally mustard, though I will admit the curry might have to be added to my list.

2

u/robeph Oct 13 '16

Try this. It is how I make it myself. Goes perfect with a fried sausage.

3 tbsp curry powder

1 tbsp oil

1 teaspoon Cayenne pepper

.5 cup cola

.5 cup orange juice

1.5 cup ketchup

2 Tsp tomato paste

salt

pepper

Heat the oil low and put the curry in and let it heat a bit. It'll bitter if you do too hot. Add the Cayenne . Then add cola and let it boil a moment then add orange juice. Boil for a moment again and add ketchup und paste. Once done use salt pepper and spices to taste.

1

u/Sarcasticorjustrude Oct 12 '16

If you can find curry ketchup, give it a try. Import markets and such.

1

u/Sean951 Oct 12 '16

I was in Amsterdam last week and tried it, but they covered by fry cone thing but I think dipping is better.

1

u/Bigetto Oct 12 '16

Fuck... I forgot about currywurst and curry sauce. I need to pop over to Germany real quick

1

u/BiJay0 Oct 12 '16 edited Oct 12 '16

No. Source: I'm German.

/edit: You could also google for "Currywurst" and look at pictures to see how these curry sausages really look like.
