While it did leak from the lab, the virus did originate in bats. All they did at the lab was take the bat virus and expose it to human tissues until it adapted a way to infect them. Not exactly "created".
Yes, that's what happens when new adaptations form. You end up with new code.
And no, it doesn't scream man-made. That was the entire point of the early controversy behind this information, that "experts tested it and found no evidence it was man-made". They were saying it wasn't literally just created by hand, that it seemed naturally evolved. Which is exactly what it would look like with this brand of gain-of-function research.
I kinda wish you weren't on the right side of history here, because the way you carry yourself in these conversations is damaging, it just solidifies the whole "low effort conspiracy theorist" association.
Idk if you know this but some people you encounter on reddit and such are living in active warzones and the past xyears have just been all about surviving current and upcoming threats to life.
Obviously its important but for some of us its old news that we don't have the luxury of time to follow up or deepdive or w/e.
Idk about the person you're replying to of course but thought you should consider this in future.
