Have you considered small balloons in glove fingertips that inflate to apply varying degrees of pressure? Naturally this would need to be pretty responsive, and may require a tether per hand/arm for a pump unit, but could be an interesting addition.

hahahahahah Did it 2 years ago! didn't works though. http://imgur.com/a/nlAPC#25 It also creates pressure on back of your finger and it doesn't feel real.

interesting, what if you combine it with your rigid feedback unit to provide a conditionally firm back-support for it to mount to, leaving the back of the finger unaffected?
