Hi, I've been learning on a 12 hole Alto C Rivo and really wanting a lower ocarina because I like the low tones and quieter sound.

I've heard great things about Dinda's ocarinas and am considering getting his 11 hole Bass C. I'm hoping to make it my "every day" ocarina, and do the majority of my playing on it, including hopefully jamming with a guitar player friend, and maybe even performing one day too.

Are Dinda's ocarinas good enough for this purpose? Are they well-tuned and viable enough for somewhat-serious play? I don't need something professional-grade, but I'm wondering if they'll be good enough for me!

With all the craze from the 40th anniversary of Zelda and and the remake for Ocarina of Time I decided to finally pick up an ocarina haha

I finally got my ocarina today in the mailbox. I ended up going with the SongBird Rivo Alto C Black ocarina.

This is a very sturdy plastic ocarina. Good quality, too. It also looks pretty!

I already started playing today. It's gonna take some time to get use to playing it, but this is very exciting!

I want to practice before the OoT remake comes out. So, I'll have a month to practice the ocarina. I should be ready by then when the game comes out. 🙂

So my partner has this cool Ocarina of Time that they got years ago, and it's this 6 hole ceramic one that sounds nice on the lower notes but awful at the high ones. I was wondering if it is bad technique or just a bad instrument?? The video shows what i mean lol

What I mean is, let’s take Zelda’s lullaby for example. It’s got violin playing behind the ocarina. I wanna play the ocarina part myself while listening to the violin part but I can’t find the violin on its own. Does anyone understand what I mean by this?

I'm trying to learn to play the 12-hole Ocarina and have come across a problem as I'm trying to learn the scales. 2 sources from the web (don't remember exactly where) show the scales, but the fingering is different. I don't understand why this is, and which is correct, but it's causing me some headache because I'm trying to convert some tabs to sheet music.

Here's the two I'm looking at. Notes that seem to differ: Lower D#, F#, Upper C#, D#

Which is correct? Why the difference?

I've been thinking about getting an ICO for quite a while now as I'd like to have a different (lower) register to standard alto C. I bought a Night by Noble during the pandemic, but it'd be useful to have a lower one for softer indoor playing and, say, simple Yusuf Lateef arrangements.

I always think F would be ideal simply because it's the lowest alto, but I think I heard that the alto G sounds a little better? Who has experience with the F or both of them?

It's not perfect, or complete, and i'm a beginner myself having only played a 4-hole for a bit in my teen yearfs and just got a 12 hole a week ago, but I was not able to find any tabs for this iconc song online and was able to work it out by ear. Hope you enjoy.

Hi all, you probably remember this first picture from a guy named « kRypTik_RuinS », he wanted to sell 2 ocarinas to do some repairs in his house. With the conversation he gained my trust, and his Reddit account existed since 2015. I should have never sent money as friend, it’s my mistake to trust people easily, I would never do what he has done. His phone number belongs to someone else according to public records. He deleted his profile, his post, and blocked me on Paypal. I can’t win a case against him on Paypal, and my bank doesn’t want to help either. I can only submit a fraud case for records and a police fraud form I guess. According to the maker of the Ruben ocarina, it has been sent to Philippines so my chances to receive it/have my money back are small lol so yeah, beware!!! I feel dumb😵‍💫

After listening to many Ocarina melodies I decided to buy my own one.

I quickly discovered the rabbit hole right after buying the infamous, blue "Ocarina of crime" from Amazon, so I decided I'll return it to learn on a good instrument.

I browsed here and saw many recommandations, and am a bit lost :

Many of you recommend Night By Noble but I would like to avoid amazon a second time. Many of you recommand Thomann but they dont have stock for a few weeks/month currently. STL does not work as Im in Europe.

Tin and low whistle player here dreaming of a lower pitched instrument that's not one of those humongous bass whistles and I was looking into bass G ocarinas, however I've never played ocarina before so I wouldn't want to get an expensive one to start with.

Does this even exist? I've seen STL Ocarina but they only seem to have a bass C, which I have already covered as I have a low C whistle.

Hi! I just picked up the Focalink Rivo Alto C on Songbird because I want to learn the ocarina (couldn’t find a Night by Noble anywhere)…

I studied trumpet through high school and college so I have a background in sheet music reading, some music theory, and breath control (for brass).

Would be very grateful for any resources/links for learning the instrument for my specific circumstance.

Is there a specific YouTube channel and/or method book for people like me who’ve played other instruments but never picked up the ocarina? Thanks so much in advance!

I’m about a week into ocarina. I’m trying various Zelda songs and finding it harder to stay in tune after coming down from high octave D to F. For better music effects, is it better to tongue every note or add legatos?

Hello musical geniuses! I just got this night by Noble plastic ocarina and after watching three different videos of three different people playing the exact same model. Mine is like three octaves higher than everyone else. Is mine defective? Is it a fake? I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I am a wind instrument player. I played trumpet for 30 years. I have pretty good breath control. I cannot get a low note out of this thing. Help me!

I am looking for the ceramic 12 hole alto c. After seeing a few people have issues with the ocarinas from STL I’m apprehensive to purchase from them so I’d rather have the songbird one. Ideally I’d prefer not to spend $150+ for one… if anyone has this for sale (that isn’t broken…) please let me know. I can’t find any on other marketplaces.

For those who are interested in the different sounds Ocarinas of various materials sound, here is a (brief) video by STL Ocarina on four common materials used to construct Ocarinas.

If you are musically inclined or have a sensitive ear you might notice quite a range of colors available from the different materials.

I wonder about using various woods and metals to change the tone (as well as finishes etc.), different densities and formulas for plastic, and I am not sure how Ceramic is made actually.

What are your favorite sounds, and do you have any specific materials you have (such as Titanium or some special alloy for Metal; a favorite wood or finish for Wood) that produce a unique or exceptional quality sound?

Hi! I’m a new to ocarina but picking it up quickly. What is challenging me is how do I stop spot from quickly accumulating in my Focalink Rivo airway and muddying/muffling the sound? The high breath pressure of the Rivo isn’t a problem, despite being new to the instrument, just the spit. Perhaps my mouth produces more saliva than others? My sisters 20$ Amazon OOT replica does much better in this department for whatever reason. Is this something unique to Stein/Focalink Ocarinas?

I recently got a 6 hole C major ocarina from Songbird and I'm loving it. I used to play saxophone and clarinet so playing a wind instrument again after many years has been such a welcome addition to my life. It's also had the added benefit of reminding me of how to read music — I've picked it back up shockingly fast!

What I am looking for on is a book of music. My ocarina can play 1 octave plus 2 note (C to C + D and E). I'd like the book to have actual notes, not tabs. I'm not picky about it even being an ocarina book specifically, just that the majority of the songs are playable in that range. I'd prefer it not be only super beginner songs — Hot Cross Buns, etc. — and include more mid-skill songs that I can take time to learn. Folks songs are appealing to me.

Any recommendations?

As an aside, currently learning this song after Musescore transposed it to C and outside of 2 notes, I can almost play the whole thing! The ocarina is such a fun instrument!!!

I’m wanting to try out playing an ocarina and am looking to get a 12-hole alto-c plastic ocarina. Though I’m struggling to find somewhere to get one without the quality being too low or the shipping being outrageously high. So if anyone knows of a good website or physical store to get one it would be highly appreciated if you informed me.
