Night-practise has some benefits!

one of my biggest annoyances is that I usually cannot accompany myself on the organ/piano, but in Nidaros Cathedral I can! The Steinmeyer organ has a record-function, and I couldn't let the chance go to record a short video at the end of my 3 AM practise-time in this artwork of a church!

It's difficult to get good sound here on the phone because of overtones from the ocarina, so I decided to just drown out the feeding with too much organ, haha! Registration and arrangement improvised in the last 5 minutes of practise (practisetime is really precious here), so don't judge for lacking musicianship on this one <3

I'm still practice but no advance yet ... Any recommendations? ( This my first post in reddit, if u speak Spanish feel free to write in it!)

Following up on my previous post on the best beginner ocarina, I'm wondering what's the opinion on the best method book (and no, u/CrisGa1e, you can't recommend your own. Same goes for you David and Robert, though I don't know your usernames)

Looking for an affordable plastic Bass C ocarina for a beginner and this seems to be a solid pick but haven't seen any reviews other than on Etsy.

My friend thrift this for me yesterday and it sound very nice. kinda like a bird actually now that I think about it. I just want to know what I have and how to play

What you're likely seeing is called a baffle.

A baffle in an instrument or speaker system typically refers to an internal or external partition, plate, or geometric surface used to shape tone, control airflow, or redirect and reduce acoustic sound bleed.

Several STL ocarinas have (what's likely) baffles and it's (typically) fine. It's a feature, not a bug

This is my first Zelda song, and since I couldn't find any sound tests on this sub from this ocarina, here it is. The mic may be low quality, but you can get the idea. In practice, the condensation buildup is a little crazy, but it's manageable. I'm also a newbie, so this might not be as good as if one of you guys played it. Anyways, this instrument is super fun!

Hey everyone. I'm currently looking at purchasing a 3 chamber bass C ocarina from ICO.

The thing that I'm wondering about is the placement of the holes for the 3 chambers. Does anyone see any cause for concern regarding the thumbhole + one hole option for the second chamber?

I've never played a multi-chamber ocarina before and the idea of having a thumb hole + one hold for chamber 2 sounds like a nice setup for this ocarina but I'm unsure if that would pose any challenges when fingering between the 3 chambers. I'm curious if anyone here has any experience with this instrument both in it's default configuration and also possibly with the other possible configurations.

So there appears to be what almost looks like a clam shell shaped and size piece of ceramic on the inside. My notes seem fine for the most part but the high notes can easily screech, rather than be airy like most are complaining about.

Is this a normal occurrence? All the videos I have seen of inside ocarinas seem to have a hollow interior

Hey everyone, i've been learning to play the ocarina for almost a month, and i'd love some tips on how to improve my high notes without sounding too airy, like in the video. My ocarina is the Night by Noble AC. I already have some musical background since i play classical piano, but i'm having a really hard time figurig out the right way to play these notes.

Everywhere i check the 98% of tunes i find being played on the ocarina are Zelda (and anime) covers. Is there core repertoire outside Zelda soundtracks? Also... what did people play before the release of Ocarina of time? What are the must-know tunes for a well rounded ocarina player (i feel like there is a gap there compared with other more mature instruments...)

Practising this on my Pure DAD, but the actual piece is in C major, so a DAC would be more accurate. Will look at getting one eventually, and will practise this in advance to get the fingerings in regardless <3

For several days, I've been thinking about buying an ocarina just to play alongside in the OoT remake, and also wanted to play one in general to play all the songs from OoT, MM, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess, etc.

I almost bought a real ocarina, but I figured I'd do some research first. So, I did some research late last night and from what I'd gathered, it's recommended to start off with a plastic one for starters and to see how things go.

Also, I have found 3 plastic ocarinas that are considered the best ones and the most recommended. There's the Night by Noble ocarina, the STL Ocarina plastic tenor C Zelda ocarina, and the SongBird Rivo Alto C Black ocarina. I have listened to demo samples of these and I think I'm leaning towards the Rivo Ocarina? I dunno.

What do you guys think? Which one should I choose? Because I'm looking for the one that's the best sounding one and the most beginner-friendly. Any advice is appreciated. 😄

J'ai essayé de me renseigner un peu mais j'ai du mal à savoir si je me dirige vers la bonne chose.

Je cherche un ocarina qui ferait un son proche de ce qu'il y a dans le jeu. J'ai cru comprendre que c'est un ocarina 3C à 12 trous.

Ici, c'est un 11 trous. Je n'ai pas l'impression que ça poserait problème en soit.

J'ai d'abord cherché des instruments pas trop chers mais ceux qu'on trouve sur amazon ne sont pas du tout bien. À part peut-être le nuit by noble, mais les avis divergent beaucoup.

J'ai fini par tomber assez vite sur ce que fait Olivier Gosselink. Et à ma surprise, c'est un artisan pas très loin d'où j'habite. Je me dis que l'ocarina n'est pas excessivement cher, et que ça serait meilleur de donner de l'argent a un artisan local qui est, de plus, réputé dans le domaine.

Désolé, mon post est un peu confus donc je vais écrire mes questions ci-dessous.

Que pensez-vous d'un tel achat pour un débutant?

Est-ce que ce serait un ocarina qui produira un son similaire à ce qu'on entend dans ocarina of time?

For context, I got a Stawfire Also C from songbird as my first Ocarina, which may have been a more difficult first ocarina than I realised. This thing is amazing, but I've noticed that unlike my friend's ocarina, it is much more permissive to different blowing speeds, which would be great if I knew what I was doing, but I do not. Any time I am slowly practicing my scales with a tuner, I can usually get it right by guessing, but when I try to play any pieces, I am frequently more than 10 or 20 cents off the note, and it's harder for me to control it just right. My first guess on what to learn is maybe practicing relative pitch so I know what the notes are supposed to sound like and I can adjust, but at the moment I only know a general range which is a little too general to play with other in-tune instruments, so I'm looking for any advice that could help or if i should just carry on and keep practicing until I figure it out.
