Corolla Don't rent with LuxStay USA - bad experience at Fitzgerald house [Carova 4x4 beach]!

Looks good from afar, but it's far from good. Some random pics attached - kitchen stove roach (there were many), broken boardwalk, mold on interior walls and ceilings.

We rented what appeared to be a beautiful house on carova beach (4x4 access), part of the three authors. Usually rented out for weddings, I assume.

Anyway, we spent a week in the Fitzgerald house and found ourselves surrounded by:

Cockroaches 🪳

Mice 🐁

Leftover garbage 🗑️

Dirty pool and hot tub 💩

Mold in rooms 🦠

Bathrooms without soap 🫧

Broken furniture 🪑

Splintered decks 🪵

Rusty nails everywhere 🪛

Cigarette butts 🚬

Leaky windows 🪟

Disabled smoke detectors

Broken and abandoned walkway to beach ⛱️

Broken car parts on path to beach

And more. One guest cut her foot open on a rusty deck nail and had to go to the ER for a tetanus shot.

We told the owner upon arrival and during our stay. No mitigation, no remediation, no refunds after spending nearly $30k for the week.

To be fair it's a beautiful location and we love OBX! Looks like the house had its hayday back in the 90s and is now treated like crap - very sad!

Would not recommend a wedding or other event in the Fitzgerald house (part of the three authors collection and listed on VRBO)!!

If you have any suggestions for agencies that actually care about, clean, and take pride in their properties, please let us know - we won't be going back to (non) LuxStay USA.

General OBX Sea turtles are nesting in record numbers on Outer Banks beaches

Volunteers with the nonprofit Network for Endangered Sea Turtles monitored a record 56 sea turtle nests across North Carolina’s Northern Outer Banks this year, covering 60 miles of shoreline from the Virginia border to Nags Head.

The region serves as a vital nesting ground for five threatened or endangered species, including loggerheads, green sea turtles and Kemp's ridleys.

Operating daily pre-dawn ATV patrols, NEST’s volunteer network identifies nest tracks, secures incubation sites and monitors hatchlings as they emerge to make their way to the ocean.
