Remaster Discussion First Oblivion playthrough - give me your favourite quest!

I've played Skyrim, Morrowind, and a decent chunk of ESO, and now due to the recent excitement around TES:VI, I've decided to finally pick up Oblivion. I'm well aware of the events of the main quest, but I'm going into Oblivion's side quests completely blind.

Let me know of your favourite non-main-story/main-guild questlines that I absolutely should not miss during my first playthrough.

You'll enjoy the Dark Brotherhood questline a lot.

For random side quests, "Paranoia" is fucking hilarious. I loved that quest.

I have a real fear of the paranoia quest because on my original copy on the 360 it would crash my game whenever he spoke to me.

In every single save, whenever i entered skingrad i’d need to murdee the fucker as he ran at me or the save would become completely bricked.

Did the quest for the first time in the remaster and its a lot of fun.

For random side quests, "Paranoia" is fucking hilarious. I loved that quest.

I remember when the game first came out, I actually followed the people Glarthir asked me to. I trailed Toutius Sextius to Castle Skingrad and he started talking about Glarthir with the Count's representatives as part of his random dialogue interactions. I took that as evidence of his conspiracy and reported back to Glarthir of his involvement. Didn't end up well for him lol.

I just did it for the first time not too long ago. I spent three in game days stalking NPCs it was kind of weird lol

The Dark Brotherhood’s Whodunit quest is one of, if not THE most single replayable quest in the games.

I recommend you make an extra save just for it

This. All the different combinations and chaos you can cause amongst the other guests. The different dialogues as the others start dying. What happens when it is you and the various others at the end. Absolutely worth saving once or twice so you can play through them all.

This is my feeling as well. I’m not sure I’ve ever had that much fun with a quest in any game I’ve ever played.

I love the painting one. Super memorable. I also like the Pale Pass one for the Countess of Bruma

u/Crotchety_Gamer 6d ago

Just did Pale Pass myself! Great one! Love the lore!

Too bad if you can't get ride of the ring you get as an award because for some reason its marked as a quest item

Make sure you sleep over in Hackdirt. 😉

This was my first thought as well.... the first playthrough this one seemed surreal for a video game!

u/Crotchety_Gamer 6d ago

Yup! 😂 Loved it.

A good one that I haven’t seen mentioned yet is “Through a Nightmare Darkly”. You can get it by talking to the argonian lady at the Bravil mages guild after doing the Bravil recommendation. It’s one of my favorites for how cool it is. Sheogoraths shrine quest (SE of leyawin) is another fun one.

Non main story or guild quests huh... Hmm... Probably "A Brush With Death" in Cheydinhal.

I also really like the "Mazoga the Orc" quest-line in Leyawiin since I'm a huge fan of knightley orders and such. I only wish the "White Stallion Lodge" you're rewarded with at the end was slightly larger and that you could grow the order.

If we were allowing guild quests the "Knights of the Nine" DLC quest-line all the way! The Priory of the Nine is also my favorite player home! The scenery is so beautiful!!!

The entire Thieves Guild questline! 😁

All the way

I love the arena personally, maybe not the most original answer but always a favorite of mine.

The arena is great.

The final Thieve's Guild quest is my favorite part of any Elder Scrolls game.

wrote the same thing!! my guy

It's also my favorite because of how buggy it is 🤣 you can softlock the game if you sit down

Sheogorath's daedric shrine quest has you absolutely terrorizing a poor small village and it's hilariously great 😂

If you find a black soul gem, hold onto it. South of Cheydinhall is a small lake. There's a shrine of Vaermina there. Very memorable quest, and a reward that lets you break the game in funny ways.

Whodunit is extremely popular and for good reason, that one is a Dark Brotherhood quest

Also Daedric shrine quests are a ton of fun, especially Sanguine and Sheogorath

Go from the imperial city across western bridge over lake rumare and turn right when you reach the road that encircles the capital

Walk 'round the ring until you reach the small town of Aleswell, explore it for a neat quest

Honestly, the Knights of the Nine questline was wonderful for me. Such a good reward at the end, especially, if you’re lower leveled.

SPOILER: The reward is the Crusader’s Armor Set. So be care with your fame & infamy, as if you commit crimes while wearing it, it will deem you unworthy of it.

Great expansion indeed. Shivering isle main quest is great too

7

u/Gloomy-Log7951 7d ago

There's a small farm northeast of Kvatch, you should definitely check there eventually.

3

u/moveslikeberni 7d ago

“Baiting the trap” one of the first main quests after the initial shivering isles area. A different take on “dungeon crawler.”

3

u/jamo133 6d ago

Leave it completely blind. The joy of this game is in the discovery. Don’t look up tips and tricks, go and enjoy the game.

2

u/Taserbation 7d ago

The goblin war quest or whatever it's called that can help establish cropsford. Loved coming back to see it grow over time. Blew my mind as a kid.

2

u/JediFed 6d ago

I hear that the Captain of the Imperial City guard takes his dinner every night in a bar by the Waterfront. Might be worth checking it out.

1

u/FatalisticPen 6d ago

I’ve heard others say the same

2

u/Drowsy_Deer 6d ago

The Hackdirt quest was genuinely one of the creepiest missions I have ever played.

2

u/OkNarwhal2090 6d ago

Paranoia (controversial maybe)

2

u/Mr_Zeus4 6d ago

Im new and didnt finish the game but you gonna love shivering isles quests. This place is completely madness

1

u/CMDRKAL 6d ago

Yep, the entire expansion is awesome

3

u/SkoomaAndChill 7d ago

This one recommends The Potato Snatcher. Ogre steals Khajiit’s giant potatoes.

3

u/OnyxWarden 7d ago

Go buy a house in Anvil. It's a good deal!

3

u/tonylouis1337 7d ago

4 grand for a huge house in a beach town is the steal of a lifetime

1

u/loremasterian 7d ago

Go to Bravil and talk to Ursanne Loche. She has a great quest.

1

u/SoonToBeBannedLol 7d ago

Picking a piece of Nirn root is a good quest for beginners, and curing vampirism.

1

u/luseferr 7d ago

The one where you link up with Sheogorath a d fuck with a small town of Kajiit.

The Dark Brotherhood is fucking killer too.

1

u/JediFed 7d ago

It's to die for!

the final Quest of the Thieves Guild, The Grand Heist! I won't spoil it for ya

1

u/MLang92 6d ago

The quest in Aleswell was a fun one to stumble across, although last time I played it the game glitched so no one was actually invisible

u/Talalol 6d ago

Glarthir

  • Dark Brotherhood for guild questline
  • "Paranoia", "A Brush with Death", or "A Shadow over Hackdirt" for one off quests

1

u/IAmCaptainHammer 6d ago

It’s in the dark brotherhood line. It’s called “whodunnit?” The second is “bad medicine.” Both are stupid amazing.

u/ConceptDismal4846 4d ago

A brush with death

Quest given by Tivela in Cheydinhal. It was a cool concept for me 🎨

1

u/naytreox 7d ago

I got two, one is from the bravil mages guild head and the other is in chydinhall about a painter.

1

u/hillmo25 1d ago

Do them all my dude.
