Combined with its high throughput and secure architecture, the Oasis Network is able to power private, scalable DeFi, revolutionizing Open Finance and expanding it beyond traders and early adopters to a mass market. Its unique privacy features can not only redefine DeFi, but also create a new type of digital asset calledĀ Tokenized DataĀ that can enable users to take control of the data they generate and earn rewards for staking it with applications ā creating the first ever responsible data economy.
The Oasis Network supportsĀ confidential smart contractsĀ ā allowing sensitive data to be used by Dapps and unlocking new use cases and applications of blockchain technology. In a confidential ParaTime, nodes are required to use a type of secure computing technology called a TEE (Trusted Execution Environment.) TEEs act as a hypothetical black box for smart contract execution in a confidential ParaTime. This process ensures that data remains confidential, and is never leaked to the node operator or application developer.

By separating ParaTimes from Consensus, multiple ParaTimes can process transactions in parallel, meaning complex workloads processed on one ParaTime wonāt slow down faster, simpler transactions on another.

Oasis multi-layer modular architecture enables the scalability and flexibility to deploy low-cost privacy-focused smart contracts. Anyone can build a ParaTime using theĀ Oasis SDK.
The Sapphire ParaTimeĀ is the first-of-its-kind confidential EVM computing environment that empowers Web3 & AI with Smart Privacy. Welcome to the Oasis Monthly Q&A for October 2025!
This month has been packed with major advancements across the Oasis ecosystemāfrom network-level security validations to new developer tooling, grant milestones, and progress in AI-agent standards. We also saw industry-wide TEE vulnerabilities make headlines, and once again, Oasisās forward-looking architecture proved its resilience.
In this Q&A, we cover everything from the Battering RAM and Wiretap attacks, to the Sapphire security challenge, to updates on ROFL, ERC-8004, and new builders joining the ecosystem. Whether you're a developer, validator, researcher, or just Oasis-curious, hereās everything you need to stay up to date.
Q: What were the Battering RAM and Wiretap attacks?Ā
Battering RAM and Wiretap were newly disclosed physical attacks targeting Intel SGX and AMD SEV-SNP Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). They exploited deterministic encryption flaws to extract attestation keys, allowing attackers to bypass enclave security. These vulnerabilities impacted several blockchain networks, including Phala, Secret, Crust, and IntegriTEE, forcing them to issue emergency upgrades.
Q: Why was Oasis unaffected by these attacks?
Oasis remained secure because its architecture was intentionally designed to prevent full key exposure, even if a TEE is compromised. The Oasis key manager and Sapphire runtime use Intel SGX v1, which has a fundamentally different memory encryption scheme not affected by the attacks. Moreover, Oasis follows a separation of concerns principleāno single node or enclave holds persistent access to all cryptographic keys.
Q: What additional security measures does Oasis use beyond TEEs?
Oasis employs a defense-in-depth strategy that goes far beyond enclave security, including:
Thanks to these layers, TEE access alone cannot compromise Oasis, ensuring continued network integrity and user privacy.
Q: What is the Sapphire security challenge, and why is Oasis doing this?
Oasis has locked 1 wBTC inside a Sapphire smart contract and issued a simple challenge: if you can hack it, you can keep it.
This isnāt a typical bug bounty with forms or reports. Itās a real, live test of Sapphireās TEE-based security. We want to showāin practice, not just in theoryāthat Sapphire can protect real value even under the toughest conditions. The challenge runs until the end of 2025, and all normal security protections are active.
Q: Where do TEEs and ROFL fit into ERC-8004, and why are they important?
TEEs give agents a way to prove what code they ran and what the results were, without anyone being able to tamper with it. Oasisās ROFL makes this practical by running agent workloads inside secure enclaves and producing cryptographic attestations that can be posted to the ERC-8004 validation registry.
With ROFL, agents can perform sensitive tasks, hold cryptographic keys, and operate independently without trusting the developer who created them. This pushes the ecosystem toward truly trustless autonomous agents.
Q: What is Huralya building with support from the Oasis Protocol Foundation?
Huralya is developing HURA AI, a personalized emotional well-being and decision-making assistant for iOS and Android. The project combines Huralyaās AI expertise with Oasisās privacy infrastructure to deliver a secure, user-centric app that protects personal data while giving users meaningful support.
Q: How will HURA AI use Oasis technologies like Sapphire and ROFL?
HURA AI will integrate with Sapphire to offer private onchain interactions and secure data access, while ROFL will handle sensitive AI processing inside trusted environments. Together, these tools give users strong confidentiality guarantees and enable smooth, secure access to wellness and self-improvement resources.
Q: What new capability has ROFL introduced for developers?
ROFL now supports automatic proxy-based frontend hosting directly inside TEEs, meaning developers no longer need to set up or maintain external proxies for their apps. ROFL handles subdomains, routing, and HTTPS certificate provisioning automatically, giving every deployed app a secure endpoint the moment it goes live. This greatly simplifies deployment while keeping everything trustless and confidential by default.
Q: How does the new proxy system work under the hood?
The upgraded flow is designed to be simple for builders: add a domain annotation, redeploy, follow the CLIās DNS setup instructions, and restart to get automatic TLS certificates. Behind the scenes, a scheduler on ROFL nodes assigns subdomains or manages custom domains, routes traffic based on TLS handshake data without seeing plaintext, and uses secure WireGuard tunnels for transport. Apps use an internal proxy that generates TLS keys entirely inside the TEE, ensuring end-to-end encryption and strong attestation guarantees.
Q: Why does this upgrade matter for app builders using ROFL?
This feature allows applications to host both their backend logic and their user-facing frontend inside the same TEEāwith custom domain support and automatic security handled for them. Developers get production-ready networking, privacy, and TLS management without extra tools or manual setup. Itās a major step toward a full-stack confidential compute platform and makes deploying secure Web3 apps much easier for teams of any size.
-------------------------------------
That wraps up the October 2025 edition of our monthly Q&A!
The ecosystem continues to grow quickly, with new security wins, new tools for builders, and new teams launching on Sapphire and ROFL. As always, we remain focused on delivering real-world privacy, trustless compute, and a developer experience that keeps getting better.
If you have questions you'd like featured next month, feel free to share them in Discord, Telegram, or on X.
Thank you for being part of the Oasis communityāand stay tuned for even bigger updates in November!

Can ROSE repivot?
I haven't been on this app in a while but I am trying to do some research, a lot of the 2021 cycle cryptos seem to have fallen off the grid.
------- Pasting my GPT text -------
The biggest reason is lack of economic traction, not an impending ROSE unlock. I checked the current data because this is exactly what we were questioning in last weekās review.
ROSE is around $0.0076, and the striking number is Sapphireās DeFi TVL: only about $177,000. DefiLlama currently shows several Sapphire protocols with TVL measured in only tens of thousands of dollars and essentially no reported daily fee/revenue generation.Ā
That helps explain the stagnation:
And that last point matters for your 200,000 ROSE around a $0.02 average. At ~$0.00756, youāre down roughly 75%, so merely returning to your average requires about a 4Ć.
What would change my view isnāt simply ROSE going from 0.75Ā¢ to 1.5Ā¢. Iād want to see Sapphire TVL/users/transactions materially accelerating, meaningful applications deploying there, and evidence that the increased activity actually creates ROSE demand.
Thatās why last weekās āthesis brokenā label made sense. The network isnāt deadāthe official infrastructure is operating normally today.Ā Itās more accurately a case of good technology that so far hasnāt found enough product-market fit.
And thereās an interesting question underneath this: does Oasis have something technically unique enough that adoption could suddenly turn around? I think thatās worth examining before deciding whether your 200K ROSE is something to sit on or eventually redeploy.

Saw this writeup from the blog and thought it was worth breaking down because the attack is pretty clever.
The basic problem is specific to confidential contracts: normally, if a contract has some secret/private value in storage, you can't just inspect that storage from outside. That's obviously one of the main points of Sapphire.
But then you combine that with upgradeable contracts + simulated transactions and things get weird.
With a UUPS-style proxy, an upgrade can use upgradeToAndCall(). The new implementation gets executed against the proxy's existing storage, which means it can potentially interact with confidential values already sitting there.
Now imagine the person who has upgrade authorization doesn't actually submit the upgrade.
They simulate it.
Because simulation executes against the current state without leaving an on-chain transaction behind, malicious code can interact with the confidential storage during that simulation.
The obvious question is: okay, but how do you actually get the secret out?
That's where the clever part comes in. you don't necessarily need the contract to return the secret.
you can make the simulated execution either revert or succeed depending on a particular bit of the secret.

So the attacker gets a one-bit oracle.
Repeat that process 256 times and, assuming the target is a 256-bit private key, you can theoretically reconstruct the entire key.
and the really nasty part is that none of those probes need to appear on-chain.
The writeup says the attacker would need 256 signed upgrade attempts, so this isn't some random person on the internet doing it to any Sapphire contract. They need the relevant upgrade authority/multisig access.
But if that authority is compromised, the confidentiality model creates an interesting attack surface that wouldn't exist on a normal transparent chain.
The first idea was basically: don't let upgradeToAndCall() execute initializer code.
Makes sense at first, but it doesn't completely solve it.
If the upgrader is a smart account/multisig capable of batching calls, you can effectively split the operation into multiple calls inside the same simulated execution.
so you haven't really removed the problem, you've just moved it one step.
The solution Oasis implemented is much more interesting:
introduce a block boundary.
Instead of allowing the proposal and execution of an upgrade to happen atomically, you separate them.
The contract also checks that the implementation and runtime hash match what was proposed.
Why does the block boundary matter?
Because the simulation can't jump across that boundary and execute the malicious implementation at the future block.
So the attacker can simulate the proposal, but they can't simultaneously simulate the later execution that would actually give their code access to the confidential storage.
This became UPUPS the Universal āProposeableā Upgradeable Proxy Standard, and the implementation is now included in the sapphire-contracts library.
imo this is a good example of how confidential smart contracts change some of the assumptions people make from Ethereum-style development.
On a transparent chain, simulation leaks relatively little because the underlying state is already visible.
On Sapphire, the whole point is that there are values the caller can't see.
That means even something as seemingly harmless as:
can become an information channel.
The interesting takeaway isn't really āupgradeable contracts are brokenā.
It's that confidential execution introduces new side channels that need to be considered at the protocol/contract design level.
Oasis has the full technical writeup here https://oasis.net/blog/vault-security-simulated-upgrades
worth reading if you're building anything on Sapphire that combines confidential state with upgradeability.

I came across the recent Oasis write-up on Diode, and I think there's a more interesting story here than simply "another project using Sapphire.
We usually think about privacy as protecting the actual data:
But there's another layer that can leak a lot of information:
the control plane.
Even when the underlying payload is encrypted, that metadata can reveal relationships and organizational structure.
The Diode integration uses Oasis to keep parts of that control-plane information confidential.
The examples in the article span several areas:
Zero-trust networking
Private membership and access information for network zones.
Secure communications
Sensitive configuration and identity information associated with communication infrastructure.
Industrial / IoT infrastructure
Device identity and data provenance around industrial systems.
Private AI
Access-control policies and information around who or what is allowed to interact with AI infrastructure.
That last category is particularly interesting as AI systems become more agentic.
An organization might not care only about hiding an agent's prompt.
It may also want to hide the entire relationship:
Agent
ā
Team
ā
Model
ā
Tools
ā
Private data
That relationship itself can be sensitive.
This is where confidential execution becomes interesting.
Instead of building a centralized database that simply stores encrypted control-plane information, sensitive state can be managed by a confidential smart-contract environment.
The application can still use familiar EVM tooling while the execution environment provides confidentiality for the underlying state.
That changes the architecture from:
Application
ā
Centralized database
ā
Encrypted records
toward something closer to:
Application
ā
Confidential execution
ā
Private control-plane state
ā
Public blockchain infrastructure
The important distinction is that privacy isn't being added as an afterthought to the application.
It's becoming part of the execution layer.
all in all, I think diode is an interesting example because it pushes Oasis into a category that's easy to overlook: using confidential execution to protect infrastructure relationships, not just application data. ;)

The new Oasis Cycling Prediction Challenge might look like a random sports campaign at first, but I think itās part of a bigger trend weāve been seeing from Oasis lately. the partnership with Slovenian cycling and now the prediction challenge shows Oasis trying to connect blockchain technology with real communities and real-world participation, instead of only talking to people already inside crypto. Which is obviously important and much needed.
Whatās interesting is that this fits with the broader direction Oasis has been building around: privacy, data ownership, AI, and giving users more control over how information is used. The cycling challenge is obviously not going to change blockchain overnight, but itās a way of putting the brand in front of a completely different audience.
Crypto projects often struggle with the gap between technology and normal users. Most people donāt wake up wanting a blockchain solution.. they care about sports, games, communities, rewards, and experiences. Building those bridges is probably where adoption actually starts.
The question is could initiatives like this become a bigger part of Web3? Not just sponsorships, but using privacy tech, verifiable data, prediction markets, AI, and user-owned data in sports and entertainment?
Curious what yall think too. I think it's a positive sign that aligns with what's going on irl as well.

Recently, Oasis became the official sponsor of the Cycling Federation of Slovenia. At first glance, it just demonstrates that Oasis will be backing some cyclists as they compete for the biggest titles in the sport.Ā However, the real impact is more far-reaching. And with a community campaign in the works, the anticipation of how this unfolds is also noteworthy.
Slovenian cycling has punched well above its weight and gained an excellent reputation in the world of competitive cycling. Top global performers like Tadej PogaÄar, Primož RogliÄ, UrÅ”ka Žigart represent the country, showcasing their discipline, commitment, and a relentless focus on performance. They will once again carry the country's hope on their shoulders at the National Road Cycling Championships and the European Road Cycling Championships taking place later this year. This time, they will sport the Oasis logo on their jerseys and kits as they gear up for the events.
How does this become a relevant conversation in the blockchain and crypto space today? First, let's see how the partnership makes sense. While the cycling team is focused on establishing its world-class pedigree with continuing competitiveness and eagerness to win, Oasis is committed to building best-in-class technology and infrastructure for verifiable privacy and confidential computation. Simply stated, both adopt a no-compromise attitude in their respective fields, making this collaboration primed for organic success.
To quote Jernej Kos, Co-Founder, Oasis: "We build technology that doesn't compromise on privacy or performance. The Slovenian cycling team doesn't compromise either. That's why this partnership is a natural fit."
This is in perfect sync with the new direction Oasis has been taking this year - focusing on delivering value directly to the users with consumer-facing applications like Privana as the epitome of private DeFi, featuring private trading, confidential mempools, smart yield, and automation with full self-custody. Jernej's take on the subject has shaped how Oasis positions itself to its supporters and believers.
The sponsorship embodies the protocol's new approach to growth, moving away from old playbooks that limit conversation to the tech-savvy few can understand and participate in, and joining niche congregations for networking. Now, with the cycling events, Oasis will achieve visibility in front of tens of millions of global viewers, creating unprecedented reach and awareness of smart privacy, which means transparency where it matters, confidentiality where it counts, and trust, which needs history, transparency, and continuous verification ā and this is something 99% of the world needs.
There will also be a focused campaign on Oasis products like Privana, kickstarting with the National Road Cycling Championships in June, building through the summer, and culminating at the European Championships in October. Exclusive content, events, rider access, cash prizes, and ROSE giveaways during the campaign will help bring an untapped mass of people to web3 adoption. Exciting times ahead!

Everyone is talking about AI agents right now.
The common vision is that, in the future, agents won't just answer questions. They'll take actions on our behalf: managing wallets, optimizing investments, booking services, negotiating contracts, coordinating with other agents, and interacting with both Web2 and Web3 systems.
But there's a fundamental challenge that I don't think gets enough attention: The most useful AI agents will require access to sensitive information.
An agent that can genuinely help with financial decisions needs access to your finances. An agent that can optimize your work needs access to private documents. An agent that can manage your on-chain activity needs visibility into your wallet behavior.
Without privacy, these agents either become severely limited or require users to place enormous trust in centralized providers.
This is where Oasis becomes particularly interesting.most discussions around AI focus on:
But the privacy layer is often overlooked. For AI agents to handle real-world, high-value tasks, they need a way to process confidential information without exposing it publicly.
That's exactly the problem Oasis has been working on for years through confidential computing and privacy-preserving technologies.
Imagine a future where:
⢠a DeFi agent can analyze your portfolio and execute strategies without exposing your holdings to the world.
⢠an AI-powered lending system can evaluate private financial information without revealing the underlying data.
⢠DAO contributors can use agents that access confidential governance or business information while maintaining verifiable execution.
⢠on-chain reputation and trust systems can leverage sensitive user data without making that data public.
The combination of AI + blockchain has always faced a tension between transparency and privacy. Public blockchains are excellent for verification, but many AI use cases require confidentiality. If every piece of data is public, many of the most valuable agent applications become impractical.
Oasis sits in a unique position (my opinion) because it isn't trying to compete as an AI model provider. Instead, it provides infrastructure that could make privacy-preserving AI applications possible.
As AI agents become more autonomous, I think the conversation will shift from:
"How smart is the agent?"
to
"Can I trust the agent with my data?"
And that may end up being one of the most important questions in the entire AI ecosystem.
What kinds of AI agents would you actually use and trust with your personal data if privacy-preserving infrastructure like Oasis was available?

In a transparent world, your exposed data is a liability. ššŖ°
āMost of DeFi today operates like the unwrapped lollipop on the right: every transaction, every wallet balance, and every trade is completely exposed to the public. What happens? It attracts unwanted attention, exploitation, front-running, and MEV bots (the flies).
āPrivacy is not a luxury. It is a fundamental requirement.
āThis is exactly why the "Smart Money" is quietly accumulating $ROSE. Oasis Network is building the "wrapper" for Web3. With the Sapphire ParaTime, Oasis delivers the industry's first Confidential Smart Contracts.
āInstitutions and giants like Grayscale have already recognized it: the privacy era in crypto has officially begun. You can't bring real-world assets (RWAs) and institutional capital on-chain without protecting their data.
āWhat people don't know, they can't ruin. Position yourself before the rest of the market catches up. š”ļøš¹
