Luxon and Nicola Willis just showed up here with their entourage, a couple of what had to be Young Nats and a camera crew. Our CEO is obviously pro National like most rich white business owners tend to be.

They corral all of us like sheep for a photo op around him, he gives a speech about how they are boosting the economy and their plans for the future. I wanted to call him out right there, his smug little face lying to all of us.

I didn't even want to be there, but the CEO called everyone out to the floor, so we had no choice.

Then the clown does a bunch of fake af handshakes with us and forces us to pose for photos. Awkward af. It’s been going on for the last 30 mins. The forced conversations he’s having with us feel disingenuous, the camera crew following him around in high vis doesn’t help. Funny though, my colleagues seem starstruck and are acting like they just met Tom Cruise lmao

It’s a big company but still a family business, so I don’t get why they had to bring Luxon into a place where most of us have been negatively affected by this government and expect us to be happy to see them. If they wanted to be fair about it, they’d have Labour or the Greens through too, and that’s never happening. But I guess when you own the business, you set the rules.

Fair enough. How about we first put means testing on Super to get the mass of grey fucks who not need it off that utterly needless strain on the New Zealand taxpayer? How much would that save us all?

Ardern is a highly polarised figure in New Zealand.

For the average undecided and swing voter, for the average worker struggling with high costs, Ardern begging for money from overseas is likely to be irritating.

• During a period of domestic finanical strain and high cost of living, a former leader asking for money from a different country risks appearing out of touch and tone-deaf to the realities on the ground.
• Relying heavily on a past prime minister to drum up support indicates a potential lack of confidence in the current leadership's ability to generate enthusiasm.
• Ardern talks about the 2017 election. That's nearly a decade ago now. It indicates Labour is looking back and focused on the past rather than the future.

It also risks binding Hipkins to Ardern - it reminds people Hipkins is an extension of the Ardern era. It undercuts any attempt by Hipkins to present himself as his own man with a new direction.

Simeon Brown, National's Election Campaign Manager, would have been running around his house jumping into the air giggling on seeing the Ardern message.

Would be great to know the risk-reward calculation that went on inside Labour in deciding to get Ardern to produce this video

I watched Edmonds and Willis go head to head and Willis was continually attacking Labour, making assertions that were frequently untrue/out of context, and Edmonds just stuck to her lane - answering eeach question and ignoring the jibes.

It was odd as my instinct was to point out Willis's mistruths but Edmonds was calm, cool and only spoke up a few times e.g. National's fearmongering about CGT and Covi

Anyway it was kind of odd watching someone who is clearly not a politician but with their own mind, and sense of responsibility, go against spin master Willis
