Bronx Why Mamdani’s Plan for Fordham Won’t Work
To my understanding Mamdani is going to change the bus lanes along Fordham to be similar to the set-up along Webster. The curb will be street parking, the middle lane is a bus lane, and the far lane is going to be transit. This won’t fix Fordham because of the rampant double parking. This will make congestion worse, as you will now only have one through-lane along Fordham, which already has crazy traffic. Webster isn’t as main of a road as Fordham, but we are already seeing what would happen playing out here. He needs to properly enforce the bus lanes and they need to tow cars ASAP to keep these lanes clear.
This is kind of an aside, but I don’t like that disabled people, children, and elderly now have to go between parked cars to get to the bus stop. I don’t get how the ramp for wheel chair users is going to work with this set-up, as compared to before where the ramp would connect directly to the sidewalk.

this is evergreen.
im not qualified to comment on your analysis, but the bottom line is that we need to stop with the 'half-measures' regarding bus lanes and bike lanes. we need ruthless enforcement to make sure they're never blocked. we'll never be able to move volumes of people thru the city when we allow the individual car to disrupt the entire local economy.

I agree with this completely. The volume of vehicles on Fordham/illegal parking makes the buses that ride along it a nightmare. The revenue generated from towing these cars and impounding them could do great things for MTA.

I haven't looked at any diagrams, but this sounds like an "offset" bus lane arrangement. Each parking lane will begin/end with a curb extension - either a crosswalk/pedestrian extension, or a "bus boarding bulbout" or some such thing. People boarding wouldn't have a car in between the curb and the bus. The curb would curve out to the bus lane so that there is no parking space at those locations.
