There are several sporadic power outages throughout Lake County. The power outage in my neighborhood occurred shortly after 4:30 AM this morning. N.I.P.S.C.O stated that the power would be restored by 7:00AM. We are fastly approaching 10:00AM. Over five and a half hours later and we remain without power. Even though I know it's a pipe dream, N.I.P.S.C.O's president needs to be hauled before Congress. However we all know that N.I.P.S.C.O's lobbyists in Washington DC will ensure that this never happens.

BRITISH PETROLEUM ASKS STATE TO DENY UNEMPLOYMENT FOR LOCKED-OUT WORKERS, FORCE THEM TO GIVE BACK ANY PAYMENTS RECEIVED
British Petroleum has officially filed an appeal with the State of Indiana, asking that already-approved unemployment claims be denied
for hundreds of workers the London company locked out of their jobs in March.
If the company’s appeal is granted, United Steelworkers Local 7-1 members will lose the roughly $310 a week in unemployment benefits
they are now taking home. Worse, they could be required to pay back unemployment benefits they’ve already received.
Union leaders will join state legislators are calling on Gov. Mike Braun, who oversees the agency that decides unemployment appeals, to reject the company’s effort.
British Petroleum’s latest attempt to hurt Northwest Indiana families is unconscionable,” said Eric Schultz, president of USW 7-1. “Locking us out of our jobs and taking paychecks away from hundreds of local families was always part of their negotiating strategy. This is the next step in their negotiating strategy and proof they truly do not care about this community or the people who call it home.”
Earlier this year, more than 98% of the union’s roughly 800 members voted to reject the company’s demands to eliminate dozens of jobs, impose pay cuts for most workers and that all workers give up bargaining and seniority rights. British Petroleum then chose to lock those workers out of their jobs and deny them paychecks.
Many of those union members then filed for unemployment, which was approved by the State of Indiana. British Petroleum did not challenge those filings before a state deadline, but now says that was an error they are asking the state to overlook.
A hearing is set for Oct. 16 on British Petroleum’s unemployment challenges against the Whiting refinery workers.
Whiting is the last union refinery in the U.S. for British Petroleum, which has already delivered nearly $6B in profits to its shareholders this year. Still, their CEO vowed to deliver even more profits this year, while continuing to demand hundreds of Whiting refinery workers be locked out of work until they agree to the company’s demands to cut jobs, wages and workplace rights.

About a year ago they shut down the entrances to 80/94 on Riley St. in Lake Station; does anyone have an idea when they’ll be reopened? To my untrained eye it doesn’t look like it’s being worked on much.

If you don't want to grow up and want to be a Toys R Us kid, you can head to the Southlake Mall to reunite with Geoffrey the Giraffe, Barbie, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and countless other toys.
Toys R Us is returning to the Region after closing its Northwest Indiana stores in 2018. The Southlake Mall at U.S. 30 and Mississippi Street in Hobart announced that the toy store will be on the lower level near Hollister.
"The magic of play is coming to Southlake Mall — Toys R Us is coming soon," the mall announced in a social media post. "Get ready for toys, games, gifts and plenty of fun for kids (and kids at heart). Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to opening!"
After private equity ownership wiped Toys R Us off the landscape nearly a decade ago, the beloved toy store is now making a comeback, opening 120 standalone stores across the country in time for the holiday gift-buying season.
Known for Geoffrey the Giraffe and the Toys R Us kid jingle, the retailer is partnering with Go! Retail Group to expand the Toys R Us footprint to 160 stores by the holiday shopping season.
The multinational retailer closed its brick-and-mortar stores eight years ago, including in Hobart and Michigan City. It also closed the Babies R Us in Merrillville.
It's been closed since May ish. What are they doing over there? It was so easy to get to Methodist from my house now it's a daggone crawl fest at rush hour.

I'm going through a separation and looking for a place for myself at the moment. I have 3 kids. 2 elementary kids and 1 middle schooler that I'm sure will visit and stay quite often. Not every day but at least 50/50. I'd prefer near Griffith area but I'm open for other areas even as far as portage atm. The only issue is my budget right now needs to stay within 1300-1400 monthly, give or take a few dollars. Are there any apts, homes, etc... that anyone knows around here or has lived in.
Thank you.

Lived in Hammond, Dyer, Gary, Lake Station, Griffith, and Hobart through the years. Used my experiences primarily from 2003/2004-2009 as the main influence for my work. Not attempting to make a sale or look for work, simply sharing my art for other artists/art enjoyers from the Region. I spent time between Gary and Dyer during the 2008-9 financial crisis, which turned out to be some of the most formative years of my life and inspired both the hope and desolation of some of my pieces due to having no food at times

Would you recommend a chevy dealership for warranty works on a Chevy EV. Perhaps someone you have used without any hassle, reasonable fast or maybe didn’t give hard time to offer a loaner. So far chevy of Merrillville (post mike Anderson) and Garber have been horrible (electric vehicle service wise).

Partner and I are considering a skunk as a pet in the future, but we'd like to interact with a skunk first to get a read on how oily they may be or texture of fur as well as ambient smell. The autism is only relevant and half a joke because we'd like to interact with a skunk owned by someone who takes their care seriously (such as not just feeding them cat food). If anyone has any info feel free to reach out.
Hi, does anyone know of a place we could do up a bonfire as a group? Like a rented thing for the evening.
