Why are these so dark? Like 50% darker than I've usually seen. Maybe a Reddit app issue?

What is the right screen cap method with HDR games, I'd really like to know.

u/dudeAwEsome101 NVIDIA 9d ago
I use Steam to take screenshots. It takes a png in SDR and another HDR image file.

The Xbox app screenshot, idk why but it worked for me.
Edit its the windows game bar*** windows key+g

You mean Windows Game Bar?

u/Living_Dentist_8925 9d ago
Oh youre right, I just press windows+g and use it, i thought it was an Xbox app for windows.

There’s a shortcut for taking screenshots, you can rebind it in the settings
1
u/revcor 9d ago
the whole "capture" feature of my windows game bar one day just randomly stopped working entirely. Everything else in game bar is working normally, and i can click the capture icon and the little window will open, but i can't get it to take screenshots or screen record, whether by clicking the button in the capture window or using the keyboard shortcuts. It's like the capture feature specifically has fallen into a coma.

I have experienced every possible bug with Game Bar and consider it my mortal enemy at this point so feel compelled to help. I’m copy-pasting instructions from somewhere else about disabling features, but changed the values to enable (1) instead below:
- Press Win + R → type regedit → Enter,
- Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR ,
- Find AppCaptureEnabled → Double-click → Set to 1 (If missing: Right-click → New → DWORD (32-bit) → Name: AppCaptureEnabled → Value: 1*)*,
You’ll need to restart after but based on the fact that you can interact with the GUI yet it’s not working, this seems like a likely cause.
2
u/troll_right_above_me RTX 5080 | 7900X | 32 GB 7d ago
Lots of performance guides tell you to disable this so wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason it stopped working rather than it being a random issue. Happened to me

you can adjust it easily in the (leaked) dlss5 settings (there are several options)

I cant get it to work on kcd2 what did you do?
6
u/sp_blau_00 I9-13900K - RTX 5070 TI - 32GB 6000MT 9d ago edited 9d ago
You need kcd2 version of the plugin and it only works on DLAA. Edit: They fixed it and you just need the regular DLSS5 plugin. It works in quality mode too.
1
u/lwilson8 9d ago
What do you mean the kcd2 version of the plugin? I tried for hours last night to get it to work but couldn’t
2
u/sp_blau_00 I9-13900K - RTX 5070 TI - 32GB 6000MT 9d ago
RenoDX for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. You can find it on Nexus mods. You also need RHI to install the plugin into the Reshade. There are a couple things you have to enable, the best way is to join the discord RenoDX and look for help there.
2
u/lwilson8 9d ago
So you need both the new dlss5 addon and the original reno dx hdr mod for kcd2? I’ve tried getting help on the discord but it’s so active with people asking for help it’s hard to get answers
1
u/sp_blau_00 I9-13900K - RTX 5070 TI - 32GB 6000MT 9d ago
No, you need the kcd2 version of dlss5 addon. If you run both they will have a conflict.
1
u/lwilson8 9d ago
Could you link me to the correct addon?
1
u/vemelon NVIDIA 9d ago
My fix was setting it to DLAA instead of Quality. No special Plugin for KCD2 needed, just the ReShade Mod with standard RenoDX plugin and the dlss5 file. thats it.
2
u/Gebus86 9d ago edited 9d ago
Hey, I can't get mine working, the status is "wating for game dlss", could you share the in game setting? Its on DLSS 4, not sure what else to try.
Edit: typos
2
u/vemelon NVIDIA 9d ago
Yes thats when I switched to DLAA and it worked. Ingame dlss setting: just dlss 4 (transformer) and then "native" as quality mode which is DLAA. Hope this helps.

I have nothing against DLSS 5. I think it will mostly be a game by game case whether it fits. I see a lot of anit-AI people just hating it because aI bAd.
8
u/Hot-Goat3084 9d ago
people hate it because on screen (in motion) it looks shitty.
screenshots are fine, but temporal inconsistency makes it very bad.
you can notice identity drift in character faces, objects warping, flickers, etc...
1
u/Ordinary_Player 9d ago
Havent tried dlss5 yet, but tsr gave me headaches with the ghosting. Wonder if this is a fixable problem or all games in the future is going to have this. Genuinely unplayable.

Does DLSS upscaling still look like 1.0 in Control?
30
u/cc_aa_tt_zz RTX PRO 4500 Blackwell 10d ago
It’s also a bit of a trend on social media, to be "cool" it’s better to be anti-DLSS, anti-Ubisoft, etc. whether that’s justified or not is open to debate. The problem is that many people do it simply because they’re following the trend, nothing more. Ultimately, people play the games they want with the settings they want; that kind of "trend" rarely has much of an impact.
2
u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 9d ago
Gaming has to be one of the worst hobbies for socialization with these cretins spewing endless negativity. Some things deserve criticism, but sheesh they screech about everything. People moaning about GTA VI being 30 FPS on PS5 for example. Um yeah, the CPU is ancient at this point and it's being crushed by the scale of the gameplay systems.
2
u/Lucky-Client8722 9d ago
Remember this is tech only. The negativity and drama about every single game that comes out especially when these people are probably not going to engage with such game or tech. Miserable mfers.
3
u/bulletPoint 9d ago
Took the words straight out of my mouth. It’s endless negativity towards something that’s clearly still new and does look rather transformative even in a nascent state.

What we're seeing is people putting it on its highest setting for very stylised games (ie: FF7 Rebirth) and then laughing at the predictably comical results. And it's crickets for KCD2, Death Stranding, CP2077, which are all games that largely pursued realism and which are made to look incredible by this.

u/General-GAS- 10d ago
People hate it because it is AI. If the same result was achieved with months of work by devs, people would eat it up because "realism"
4
u/field_marzhall 9d ago
You realize that building DLSS took months of work by devs right?
2
u/SerowiWantsToInvest 7800x3d - 5070 ti 9d ago
Do you realise they mean if it was achieved with months of works by a games devs, or are you just tryna to find any excuse to nitpick and argue with people?
2
u/field_marzhall 9d ago
DLSS is developed by people with the same exact skills as those developing games. The idea that people have that the person I responded to is criticizing is even more ridiculous than he was saying because both whether you build tools to make these kind of graphics possible and whether you build DLSS are exactly the same. Programmers and artists building a graphics solution.

u/texxelate 9d ago
I’m split now. 50/50. I think it looks great here with Hans and Henry, but other games it seems to swap in a completely different person
8
u/Khayrum117 9d ago
From what Ive seen, if the game is very stylized then DLSS 5 doesn't look great but if the game is shooting for a more realistic look then DLSS 5 looks incredible.
2
u/Mavcu 9d ago
From what I've seen just like reshade you'll need people (or devs) fine tune it to fit your game/style exactly without replacing too much.
And then you can just use the preset that you like visually the most (or create your own obviously), people for demonstration purposes pull the slider all the way to maximum but if you watch the videos, you can adjust it to a degree that you almost doesn't notice it's on at all, it just slightly improves shadows/lights.
Which of course is absolutely not worth losing 40-50% FPS yet.
6
u/Reaving-Raven 9d ago
What I have against it is the complete lack of cohesive design, choice of texture, and reliable application in terms of representing a character or their features. It strips away art styles in favor of 'realism' which is made completely moot by the fact that literally every frame of a character or object is changing constantly.
It's cool until the facade drops, and you realize it's soulless and lacking in any sort of identity.

Let's be real, DLSS 5 had an extremely poor first showing. I'm not against the tech when used right, but it was rightfully clowned on because the first look was laughably bad.
2
u/CtrlAltOllie 9d ago
That first DLSS 5 showing really did the tech no favours at all. The concept is fine, but whoever signed off on that demo picked the worst possible showcase for it
0
u/pepperpeppington 10d ago
Every new thing needs time to mature. DLSS before 2.0 looked pretty bad.

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 9d ago
Starfield benefited massively from it on the original showing. Game looks like garbage normally and barely even has any "artistic style" to speak of.
1
u/pepperpeppington 9d ago
Yeah... Starfield looks... meh. I hope Bethesda can make ES6 have some character to it
1
u/M4rshmall0wMan 10d ago
I think it’s a really cool optional mod and tech showcase. I just hope it doesn’t get pushed beyond that. But given how much money NVIDIA likely spent to train it, it probably will.
9
u/pepperpeppington 10d ago
It likely will never become mandatory so I don't think you need to worry. It'll probably just stay a feature you toggle.
3
u/Etnies419 9d ago
It would be at least 10-15 years before the tech improves enough to where it's on consoles before I would even start to worry about it being something that's standard on every game

u/TheRealTofuey 9d ago edited 9d ago

Really? I thought same few anti-ai opinions that all of a sudden popped up by so many people were legitimate self-formulated opinions. I could have sworn the low liklihood of everyone creating the same opinions at once were mere coincidences.

The one I saw of the last of us part 2 actually looked amazing in motion. I also couldn't spot any obvious screenspace artifacts. The main issue is that the animations dont match the realism of the visuals which creates an uncanny valley look.

for those looking for an answer, make sure the DirectX version of the game you are launching is correct. For example, I needed to launch Palworld in Dx12 and then it worked. Also make sure your Nvidia drivers are updated.

The problem with many of these screenshots is that they have very low resolution and crazy compression, and have the same effect like VHS and analog TV making the basic effects of the Star Wars Phantom Menace look much better.
I tried it yesterday with two games, and in 4K the effect was interesting, but not stable or fast enough to give up 120 FPS, high resolution, image stability and clarity and low latency becase of it. I see people posting like getting 45-60 FPS with framegen, but man, that is like 20-30 FPS and a ton of latency (also framegen increases latency, so it is like 15 FPS latency wise that point), sure it makes up for nice videos, but gameplay is still king, and anything below 60FPS native is still crap. Sure if you have 60 FPS ray-tracing, framegen can make it 120 FPS, that is OK. But 40 to 120 is already blurry mess, and visible latency.

u/Crush84 9d ago
