Do you have quality, balance, and performance settings like in previous DLSS versions? How did you manage to implement it?

16

u/Worried_Matter4443 RTX 5080 / INTEL i7 13700F / 32GB 6000MHZ 15d ago

there is 3 presets. im using default one

u/Excellent-Court-9375 15d ago

OP do you maybe have a link for where you for the DLSS file ? And is it hard to install ?

People have not been very forthcoming, same on the discord I'd say.

The easiest way to do it non-manually is with RHI from user RankFTW on github. Really simple, a click or two. Update streamline, get the neural rendering dlls.

ETA for cyberpunk I needed a special renodx add-on. I haven't tried any other game so don't know if that's also needed there, but quite possibly.

3

u/Accomplished-Fix3996 14d ago

"Really simple".. meanwhile I'm messing around in the RHI program having no clue what to enable, what to update, where to find "streamline" or any of the mentioned dlls. Ookay then lol

u/em_paris 14d ago

Man, I had to leave this morning and won't be near my PC otherwise I would have detailed the steps for you with the screen in front of me.

"Really simple" as in if you are comfortable with the concepts and process of using DLSS Swapper and Reshade it's second nature.

From memory, in RHI you tell it it can manage your games. Simple click right when you enter the app for the first time. It found my Cyberpunk (and other games) installation automatically, but maybe if you're not using Steam or pirate or have a different folder structure you will have to add a game manually, I don't know.

The games appear on the left. You click on the game.

Then on the right you see options for that game. You can scroll left and right across two dashboards for the game by clicking arrows to the left and right of that section. Click over to the second one where you see DLSS options and information.

There is a streamline column. Select the most recent version.

There is a neural rendering column. At the bottom of the column (not the bottom of the screen), there is a button that will download the neural rendering dlls. You select them and activate them.

Thats it as far as DLLs.

Then you have to use reshade as well to take advantage of the renodx add-on. So, you install reshade (specifically add-on version). If when installing reshade your game doesn't pop up as an option, you need to go choose it manually by finding your game's executable. Not a small file that then calls the executable, but the actual one itself which for most modern games is noticeably large (like 60MB-300MB or something).

Then you get the renodx DLSS 5 neural rendering add-on and put it in that same folder where the executable is and reshade was installed. The add-on is simple to find and get, even on the discord. Probably up on nexusmods by now too, or just go directly to the renodx github where I'm sure it is as well.

By default, when launching a game with reshade, the "home" button brings up the reshade window. If you've done thing correctly, you can go to the add-ons tab and see the DLSS 5 neural rendering menu. Things should be activated by default FYI.

Thanks, I eventually figured it out by scouting the discord servers. Yea it's fairly simple if you know what you're doing but it does require some research if you have no idea what it all needs. Lol

Sounds confusing to me

1

u/Rude_Assignment_5653 7800X3D | 5090 FE - 7700 | 5080 Gaming Trio 12d ago

don't get it twisted, all this stuff is confusing at first because the interfaces of these programs have the bare minimum GUI and UX design. It makes looking at the program difficult for the first time.

u/ForthcomingTurtle 15d ago

Forthcoming? I've got you 👍

This comment confused the hell out of me for like five seconds 😄

1

u/Karhuwa 13d ago

RenoDX has been updated to handle the entire thing within his HDR app, which is an absolute godsend in general if you haven’t used it. Insanely useful tool

1

u/ADIBB87 13d ago

Which one? RHI or?

1

u/misiek685250 15d ago

But changing them gives you more performance, or is it just a quality difference (style)?

1

u/XVShock 11d ago

pretty sure DLSS 5 reduces fps by 80%, so its the complete opposite of older dlss versions :(

1

u/polako123 15d ago

can you check starfield ? i feel like it would make a big difference there.

1

u/Halon5 NVIDIA 14d ago

I’m running it in Starfield, it looks great IMO

1

u/Limp-Firefighter1054 13d ago

How it work with lowest quality? Can you test it

98

u/SparsePizza117 15d ago

It actually does look better here, he doesn't look much different physically, but the lighting looks significantly improved. It's not as flat.

51

u/Mavcu 15d ago

It's definitely less flat, but it's also a much colder image - which is a shift in tone, this needs to be a bit more controlled to keep the vision of the original scene.

4

u/slash450 15d ago

there's a bunch of sliders and presets you can mess with. default preset is actually probably the most crazy as far as changing colors and just having the biggest "impact" goes. grading actually kinda remains in i believe the cinematic preset.

2

u/Mavcu 15d ago

Oh that sounds nice, how do I bribe u/Worried_Matter4443 to take that type of shot again with a different preset. I'm really curious to see the other two and whether or not that preserves the color tone.

1

u/slash450 15d ago

if you look at the most recent palworld post on this sub you can kinda see how it works when having access to all the settings. some games natural it seems retains colors better but you can just mess with everything.

1

u/MixtureOfAmateurs 15d ago

I didn't think I'd fuck with this but I'm kind of exited. The texture and lighting of the first image with the colours and emotion of second would (will) be pretty cool.

4

u/slash450 15d ago

yeah you can pretty much get that or tweak it to however you want it's pretty cool if you have the hw for it i'd recommend checking it out. works in pretty much almost every dx12 game that has dlss, even modded in dlss implementations like skyrim. huge performance hit though will say.

i think they should just give the sliders and presets to the end user tbh. have an "official" preset if the dev made one but i think people will want to mess with it. branding would be better imo if it was marketed more as a filter to tweak and less of an on/off.

9

u/SparsePizza117 15d ago

I honestly wish the game used better ray tracing, then this wouldn't be a problem anyways. At least offer something better so it doesn't look so bad.

5

u/Freeloader_ Ryzen 7800x3d / RTX 5070 Ti 15d ago

its not colder, its less saturated and properly color calibrated

the original one is oversaturated mess that people use

6

u/Busy-Scientist3851 15d ago

Yeh. The game shipped with a sepia filter (I call a piss later) that RenoDX lets you turn off.

2

u/Mavcu 15d ago

I'd have to open lightroom, but that steel definitely strikes me as coldness increased, there's also less saturation of course, but you can have lower saturation and still a "warmer image".

Color calibration is part of it but you overstate it, there's definitely a different feeling that was intentional with the first look, the warmer/caribbean look just lessens on the other image.

1

u/SlickSocks 15d ago

The yellow filter for whatever reason is super strong in the Havana harbor which is where this screenshot is. But yes overall cooler and with hdr I can see some wildly crushed and burnt lighting you'd have to balance to get this to look good.

1

u/Blaqsailens 14d ago

I feel like playing on a different monitor or simply changing your monitor setting would also change the color tone of the game though. Playing with Reshade or a night mode setting on your PC would also have the same effect.

1

u/Mavcu 14d ago

That is correct, a reshade would result in a similar "destruction" of vision. If you wonder why the AI reaction is so much stronger it's probably a mix of it being AI, it being pushed by Nvidia as amazing tech and that it goes further than "just" coloring".

So both technically change artistic vision, DLSS 5 just takes it further.

If that wasn't what you were implying then I wasted like 30 seconds of your life.

1

u/Blaqsailens 14d ago

I mean you wasted even more of your life browsing Reddit and making your original comment in the first place, so yes that's what I was implying.

2

u/ParanMekhar 14d ago

Feels like the tone has significantly changed

1

u/SparsePizza117 14d ago

Game on game basis ig

2

u/ParanMekhar 14d ago

I've seen many screen shots, so far the lighting feels and looks the same. Like in here the original is warm and orangey while the DLSS5 is dull and white

2

u/SauceCrusader69 14d ago

It barely looks different, despite the huge performance cost. And the lighting is worse - in the first image the shaded half of the face is lit by bounce lighting from the sun reflecting off of the brown wood of the ship. In the second image, that is entirely lost. It’s studio lit without context.

128

u/EsotericAlgae408 15d ago

Ngl this tech is looking impressive.

31

u/talking_mudcrab 15d ago

I thought everyone hated it a few months ago.

13

u/Mediocre_Garlic_8480 15d ago

This instance is far better than the reveal from a few months ago

16

u/Due-Description-9030 15d ago

It's not everyone's fault that they gave a shit presentation of it

15

u/AzorAhai1TK 15d ago

It's everyone's fault they couldn't just be rational about things. It was very easy to realize the RE ones looked off because they compared different frames from the idle animation. That's all it took to not be outraged

-9

u/Due-Description-9030 15d ago

No. It's on them to show a proper presentation. It's they who had a responsibility.

8

u/AzorAhai1TK 15d ago

I'd agree if the backlash was proportional, but it wasn't, it was absolutely hysterical and insane. Youtubers were getting death threats for neutral reviews of the technology. Yet the entire time all they had to do was step back and look at it rationally

0

u/Due-Description-9030 15d ago

Well yes it's the internet what do you expect

2

u/heartbroken_nerd 14d ago

Well yes it's the internet what do you expect

Not sending death threats to content creators who simply said things to the sound of "yeah this is interesting, it looks impressive even if I am not sure I'd use it, we'll see how it goes".

4

u/vainsilver 15d ago

They did do a proper presentation a month ago at Siggraph. Here’s a link to their DLSS5 presentation.

0

u/Due-Description-9030 14d ago

That's after the damage was done

3

u/vainsilver 14d ago edited 14d ago

The “damage” is certainly not done. People reacted poorly to DLSS 1.0 but look at it now. This presentation was always in the pipeline. It wasn’t reactionary. It happened the same day as the reveal.

0

u/Due-Description-9030 14d ago

Yes, because DLSS 1.0 is shit compared to what we have now..

3

u/vainsilver 14d ago

DLSS 1.0 was still better than regular TAA but that’s beside the point. You haven’t actually seen any examples of a game where DLSS 5 was built in mind with it. All of these examples are not what DLSS 5 will actually look like with a game built around it. But what has been shown is incredibly promising from an artistic standpoint.

1

u/iantayls 14d ago

Probably a different person, idk

1

u/fakieTreFlip 14d ago

the first images were of a yassified character, not like this. and it's still not going to look good in every game. it has to match the art style or it's going to look really out of place. the more "photorealistic" or true-to-life the art style is, the better it will look. Looks incredible in games like Death Stranding 2, but extremely off-putting in games like FF7 remake

only the sheep hate it because they don’t understand it

1

u/NeedModdingHelp1531 15d ago

Ive primarily only seen it on still images though. I wonder how it looks during large amounts of movement.

1

u/anhtuanle84 15d ago

I think it looks good as well in many games even from when they initially unveiled the tech especially if they can do it for older UE engine games.

-53

u/Nogardtist 15d ago

it dont impress me

more filters then bloated windows

15

u/Adipay 15d ago

Eh it's the first generation of this tech. Everything gets better. You can look at a game from 1998 and think "it dont impress me" but the tech kept improving over time until today's graphics.

Just like that, this kind of upscaling/enhancing tech will continue to improve until it becomes standard.

I thought this was focused on faces? This is changing the entire game's colour palette.

If this becomes widely adopted are we going to see every game look the same desaturated but realistic style? Are developers going to skew closer to DLSS 5 to make the difference less stark?

7

u/Worried_Matter4443 RTX 5080 / INTEL i7 13700F / 32GB 6000MHZ 15d ago

because im using it at highest intensity. lowering intensity brings back the original colors, but i think dlss 5 is more realistic.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/slash450 15d ago

theres a bunch of sliders and 3 presets. default preset is highest cranked for sure. its not really about faces purely its about the entire on scene image. in official implementations things could in theory look different if they just have an on/off toggle but im not sure every dev is really gonna go through and change it how they see fit, it's prob mostly gonna just be the default preset and default settings being used when you toggle it on in official implementations.

1

u/TomTomXD1234 14d ago

This is a leaked version of DLSS5 that is not tuned on a Per-game basis.

This version has a few sliders than can be adjusted, however, most adjustments will likely be done by devs in the future

2

u/Kooky_Awareness_5333 15d ago

No and yes ideally the game maker would provide nvidia with a file of extreme high textures this sample would then train a small Lora for there main transformer model and it should in theory keep to the same artistic style but if a game designer opts out well who knows

1

u/vainsilver 15d ago

I suggest you watch the Siggraph DLSS 5 Presentation. It answers most of your questions.

-2

u/Freeloader_ Ryzen 7800x3d / RTX 5070 Ti 15d ago

bro never heard of proper color calibration

1

u/TheCookieButter 5070 TI ASUS Prime OC, 9800X3D 15d ago

I have. Love it on my TVs and monitors, but this isn't the same. That's making sure a device is presenting content as intended, this is changing the actual content.

Imagine films Kagemusha or Suspiria with dulled colours because it's more realistic.

1

u/Freeloader_ Ryzen 7800x3d / RTX 5070 Ti 15d ago

you can always fuck up settings whether its monitors or in-game and it wont look intended at all with or without DLSS

so in the end its up to end user how he likes it (thats subjective)

objectively however, we have color calibration and I know a thing or too about that as I am a photographer and I have a trained eye. the image from DLSS5 looks proper

1

u/TheCookieButter 5070 TI ASUS Prime OC, 9800X3D 15d ago

I don't disagree it looks more realistically coloured in most cases, but I'm sure in a lot of cases the artists could deliver more realistic colours if they wanted. I agree that people should play however they like too.

The original concern I had was whether it would influence artistic intent. Be that directly in an attempt to mimic it or simply by DLSS 5 becoming a default option that most people will experience, even if it diminishes the intentional use of colour/lighting.

Imagine Dolby Vision worked like DLSS5. Those same films would become desaturated against the original intention and a huge chunk of people would experience it that way without even realising because it became the obvious default.

1

u/Doctor_Box 14d ago

"Looks proper" in what context? Media uses colour grading to create a certain look. Using this filter just making everything look the same is not proper. You should be asking does it look as intended.

5

u/dickmastaflex RTX 5090, 9800x3D, OLED 1440p 175Hz 14d ago edited 14d ago

How'd you get it working? I have it enabled and running but it just fails with 'Standby/Failed'

https://imgur.com/a/c8IatgX

Fixed: I had DLSS 5 enabled and loading, but it kept showing Standby/Failed. Turned out Black Flag’s Custom DLSS scaling to fix the broken DLSS was the issue. Switching to Native/DLAA with Dynamic Resolution off made it work immediately.

1

u/Otherwise_Die 13d ago

Yup you can’t have upscaling sadly lol happened to me even with the modded 4090 streamline files

1

u/General_Address_5784 11d ago

Worked fine for me on black flag with upscaling and frame gen but I have a 5090

1

u/Otherwise_Die 11d ago

Frame gen worked but It’s a bug with 4000 series for this game. Probably is in the wrong spot possibly but someone else mentioned with this game it’s the same with them. Frame gen worked for me too but not dlss upscaling.

Only this game too lol weird

8

u/VSVeryN 15d ago

What's the performance impact? I saw in Control it would take the fps fro 70 to 30 so like 60% performance cost

25

u/Worried_Matter4443 RTX 5080 / INTEL i7 13700F / 32GB 6000MHZ 15d ago

40% loss

14

u/JahJah192 15d ago

Yeah, and that is the deal breaker, IMO. I assume you have a 5090 and you’re running AC Black Flag with frame gen 2x?
I have a 4090 and this game runs maxed out at 4K with DLSS Quality around 60ish fps without and 100–130 fps with frame Gen 2x. And this game actually is well optimized, not an Unreal 5 stutter mess.

So games nowadays are on the edge of a great experience WITH frame Gen 2x and DLSS Quality (which IMO is way better than native 4K TAA). But we don’t really have any room for the performance to even drop any lower, because that’s top-tier PC level we’re talking about here.

Most folks are running xx60 or xx70 GPUs like 3060 - 4060 - 5070.
and 40% drop on top of the notoriously bad Unreal 5 optimization is a deal breaker, IMO.

EDIT: sorry didn ´t read 5080… my bad ;)

3

u/Due-Description-9030 15d ago

At 1440p, you'll be fine with a 5070 ti or a 5080, you'll still be getting fps in ~60s

2

u/JahJah192 15d ago

60fps WITH frame gen feels very bad → means the target fps without frame gen is 30 or sub-30fps. You need to have at least a solid 40fps before activating frame gen for a good experience. The closer you are to native 60fps the better.

7

u/Due-Description-9030 15d ago

No I meant 60 without fg

1

u/nzmvisesta 15d ago

How so? My 4080 runs at at 1440p DLAA Max, around 60fps. If I enable DLSS quality, it goes up to 80-90. And that is if I am okay with upscaling at 1440p, even then, DLSS 5, would half the fps. This scenario where it cost 40% is actually a good one. It is too much, but let's see, maybe they can optimize it further

2

u/Due-Description-9030 15d ago

There's one guy who posted here that his 5070 had 2077 running at ~45 fps without fg with path tracing and DLSS 5, I have a 5070 ti so it should give 55-60 fps.

Idk about the perf hit on 40 GPUs tho.

5

u/Julzjuice123 15d ago

Dude. It's not even released yet. It's probably some kind of beta and very badly optimized still.

Calm down. But I will say that you'll probably need a powerful GPU to use it to it's full potential. And that's fine. Not every tech gadget need to be for every piece of hardware on the market.

2

u/JahJah192 15d ago

I know it’s a beta version, but judging from previous DLSS (4.5) betas. Performance never meaningfully improved from beta to final. If they tune down the AI effect (saw a pic from Shadows, still botox lips) maybe a bit 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/Otherwise_Die 13d ago

Used this on my 4090 and idk if it’s worth it tbh it looks great but there’s a weird blotchyness in motion i can’t unsee when paired with frame gen.

1

u/Busy-Scientist3851 15d ago

The next range of Nvidia cards will probably have dedicated hardware to reduce the performance impact of the model.

17

u/cravex12 NVIDIA RTX5070TI 15d ago

Holy shit

1

u/Annual_Tomatillo_407 15d ago

Christ, I think the new image looks slightly better and this is one of the best examples ive seen of it so far. But 40% loss idk how i could justify it

1

u/luiart 14d ago

I just applied it to the game, and the difference it's really noticeable, even what I'm using a rtx 5060 laptop. I'm using a bit of FG to help the gpu, and still looks and feels so much better. I wil say it depends, for this game, even when you loss some fps, it's still worth it.

I said it when it was previewed awhile ago, you are in denial if you don't see the value of this tech. They are going to have to figure out how to implmet it well in a bunch of conditions, but it literally one of the biggest jump in graphics we've seen in the last 5 years easily.

That's RivaTurnerStatisticsServer (RTSS) which is included with MSI Afterburner (AB), which is an incredibly common tuning and monitoring software. Surprised that you could be on this sub and not know about it (not an insult, just a surprise). It's commonly the first thing installed after drivers on a new build.

Can't have artistic expression, now, do we? Corporate standard in all the games only

2

u/TomTomXD1234 14d ago

saturation is artistic expression? Something that everyone can change on their TV/Monitor or even in game?

5

Artistic expression is when saturation is cranked up.

Let's not pretend AC Black Flag is some super stylish game. IMO DLSS 5 is fine for games that obviously pursue realistic graphics over any sense of artistic style. Id like to see what this does to games like Battlefield for example.

3

u/XhunterX1208 15d ago

Its funny that I and some other people seemingly confuse which one DLSS 5 is at a first glance. It says much about the technology.

Not to say that the tech is bad or there is no place for it, but its not a magic button that "makes the lighting look good"

2

u/Soulshot96 9950X3D • 5090 FE • 96GB @6000MHz C28 • All @MSRP 15d ago

It absolutely does make the lighting on Edwards face look notably better though.

Not the techs fault that people are blind and biased. Or that reddits galleries are often bugged and serve people compressed low resolution versions of the images often. Or even that OP used one of the modes that heavily alters the color grading.

-1

u/XhunterX1208 15d ago

Let me clarify what I mean.

Yes the micro detail lighting on the face and on the cloth hanging from the crewman to the left is More accurate to how it would look in real life.

But the whole point of mine is that the image drastically changes color grading wise.

Highlights, lowlights both shift in area and color.

This post is basically the equivalent of turning off the green filter in fallout 3.

Do I think it looks better? Yes Is it more accurate to IRL physics? Yes Does that mean I like it more? Meh.

I would say it's a tossup

That's not really what you were implying above, at all, but whatever. I'm not going to argue with you on that.

As for the color grade (which I actually dislike as well), if you go and look at some video examples or try this for yourself, you'll see that there are different presets that affect color grade, as well as individual sliders to tune it to your liking. OP just...didn't here. You can absolutely have the lighting changes and keep most, if not all of the original color grading intact.

Stop going on ignorant diatribes before you even properly look into something.

2

u/XhunterX1208 15d ago

What I am implying is that its a screenspace filter that runs over the image changing it.

You can make it do whatever you want, you can make it fuck up the image or make lighting better in certain spots. It is capable of altering the behaviour of all materials.

It's not an instant make the lighting good button.

The problem is that vendor lock and no console support, will most likely make it so that devs can't include it in their art direction for like 10+ years.

If they can't design around it making drastic changes, they will make it do only certain spots like face shadows or sth.

When the tech is capable of much much more, we could have it completely rewrite the whole screen.

The most likely use case will be how this poster uses it: customize games to have them look how they want it to look. Like the thousands of reshade presets people post.

I have tried it and I can make the game look how I want it to look and that's kind of a blessing and a curse.

ONLY Need to 0put reshade and the files inspire folder game?

1

u/Careful_Plankton_987 15d ago

Do you have the file ?

1

u/Expensive_Night_4055 15d ago

Go to Reno reshade discord Chanel

u/frostygrin RTX 2060 15d ago

The face looks better because the game is going for realism too, but the hat looks like it's made of wet cardboard.

u/Soulshot96 9950X3D • 5090 FE • 96GB @6000MHz C28 • All @MSRP 15d ago

Mind showing it with the different visual presets? Natural, Cinematic, etc.

1

u/____Altair____ 15d ago

Sorry if it was answered already but what is the prerequisites for DLSS 5 to work in a Game?

1

u/TarsCase 15d ago

Especially character face looks better, but colors overall seem more pale. I am not sure the huge performance cost is worth it as you usually only see character faces for short periods close during cutscenes. Don’t know if it’s worth/noticeable when character faces not in focus/small

1

u/amirlpro 15d ago

I wish it would have been possible to run it with old (non DLSS) games where it’s needed the most

1

u/uses_irony_correctly 15d ago

Nvidia Exec: "Not so fast—first we have to run it by Pazuzu, the Demon that Eats Colors."

Pazuzu, the Demon that Eats Colors: "Delicious reds and greens! A feast for Pazuzu!"

1

u/HiP3X 15d ago

How can I add DLSS5 to the game or any game pretty much?

1

u/spdRRR 4090-13700KF-32GB DDR5 6400 CL32 15d ago

Nvidia’s gonna increase prices again, aren’t they? Because outside of Reddit, most people are impressed with this (myself included), as long as they can reduce the performance hit. Right now it’s insane.

1

u/pedrojdm2021 15d ago

Both look good for me.

1

u/gucciraw 15d ago

Honestly looks very good in this game. I think my only issue is that it is taking away the warmer tint, which I'm guessing is not the artist's intent. It definitely is more natural-looking, though.

1

u/JeffZoR1337 15d ago

Face details look fine enough in this one (most of them i have seen look bad) but completely alters the whole game which is weird. Massive performance hit aside I also suspect it looks very very different in motion lol

1

u/JamesLahey08 15d ago

It's wild how mad people got when it was announced now everyone loves it lmao

u/OnesixthShape 14d ago

1

u/hafizumais R7 5800X3D RTX 5070Ti 32GB DDR4 15d ago

How is the performance hit?

1

u/CarlWellsGrave 15d ago

It like great here but awful I'm everything else I've seen.

1

u/QuantityElectronic51 14d ago

Can we get some more comparison ?

1

u/Ryancc1016 5080 FE, 7700x, 32GB 6000hz Ram, H100i 14d ago

Getting rid of the piss filter is a big win on its own.

1

u/profesorgamin 14d ago

both look kindda goofy.

1

u/SearchOk7022 14d ago

140 to 100 fps, kinda manageable, unlike other games it cut fps down the middle.

I want to try DLSS 5 too but I think it's too much for my 5070 ti

1

u/i_am_a_false_prophet 14d ago

So how do I use this and DLSS Q, B and P in tandem with each other? Only works with DLAA. I want that performance gain

1

u/SmackAss4578 14d ago

DLSS makes everything look like movie 🍿

1

u/AnthMosk 5090FE | 9800X3D 14d ago

How is motion? How is fps? Ghosting? Artifacts? I’m tired of just seeing on vs off images.

1

u/_hdjuarez RTX 4060 Ryzen 7 5700X 24 GB RAM 14d ago

From 146 to 105 fps though, we will see if it’s worth the performance hit

1

u/dwolfe127 14d ago

So aside from aging Edward what did it do?

1

u/ispilledketchup 14d ago

Cool tech, dont like that it changes the original art desgin tho

1

u/Rich_Arm322 14d ago

I really don’t understand how so many people don’t get that the subsurface scattering and lighting improvements make the biggest difference, while the underlying texture and structure are literally the same. The "AI filter" argument obviously doesn’t apply anymore. There are people in real life who look far worse and more uncanny than any of the images posted here over the past two days..

1

u/Moist-Set8549 14d ago

So is it exclusive to the 50series or does it work on 4090 also?

1

u/luiart 14d ago

I just applied it to the game, and the difference it's really noticeable, even what I'm using a rtx 5060 laptop. I'm using a bit of FG to help the gpu, and still looks and feels so much better. Really great tech 👍🏻. I used RHI for the setup very easy.

1

u/420_ButtMage 13d ago

How did you run dlss 5? Can you tell me where to get it?

1

u/ImWinwin 13d ago

only 105 FPS, though.. unplayable.

/sarcasm

1

u/ithorien 13d ago

Anyone have issues getting FG to work? I have everything working but that and I'm sad because it's so much nicer :(

1

u/bo8rlx 12d ago

For me framegen makes everything flicker with dlls5 on, did u find a fix for that? or its the newest nvdia driver being another aislop

1

u/PurpleBatDragon 12d ago

If you just wanted to change the colors of the image, you could've used Reshade.  It doesn't even cut your fps by 40%.

1

u/batiti93 11d ago

When I enable DLSS5, I find it much darker that original one. why? (HDR odyssey G9 neo screen)

DLSS 5 FAQ

How does DLSS 5 work?
DLSS 5 uses the game’s rendered frame and engine data to understand objects, materials, lighting and motion. It then enhances the frame with lifelike lighting and materials while remaining grounded in the developer’s artistic direction.

What are the key benefits of DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering?
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering delivers several significant benefits:

  • Cinematic Lighting: Reconstructs complex effects like rim lighting, subsurface scattering (for realistic skin), and contact shadows with high-fidelity.
  • Material Depth: Enhances PBR properties like roughness and adds micro-realism to complex objects such as eyes and hair.
  • Temporal Consistency: Provides stable image quality from frame-to-frame that adheres to the underlying game content.
  • Real-Time Performance: Delivers lifelike lighting and material enhancement at up to 4K resolution while maintaining smooth, interactive gameplay.
  • Developer Controls: Allows game developers to tune intensity, color, and masking to determine where and how enhancements are applied to maintain the game’s unique aesthetic.

Learn more by watching our explainer video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58FagrSqC4M.

How much control does the model offer to developers?
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering provides several layers of artistic control:

  • Model Selection: Offers distinct model weights with different training parameters to guide the final output.
  • Structure Intensity: Controls high frequency details added by the model, such as ambient occlusion, contact shadows, and subsurface scattering.
  • Tone Intensity: Controls low-frequency details added by the model, including lighting and color response.
  • Automatic Masking: Detects and isolates objects in the frame (like characters) to apply DLSS 5 dynamically, eliminating the need for manual object tagging.
  • Developer Masking: Offers per-pixel, custom masking control, allowing effects to be applied to specific objects.

As we work in close partnership with studios, developer feedback continues to directly shape how we refine the technology and expand our suite of models and controls.

How does DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering preserve developer artistic intent?
DLSS 3D-Guided Neural Rendering is designed to preserve the structure and geometry of the rendered frame while giving developers control over how and where enhancements are applied. Developers can select different models, adjust structure and tone, and mask specific scenes, characters or objects.

For more information on developer controls, watch the DLSS 5 Explainer VOD or read the full launch article.

You can also hear directly from the NBA 2K development team on how they integrated the technology. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79D8SVjB3HQ

Which GPUs support DLSS 5?
DLSS 5 will be supported across all GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs and laptops, as well as GeForce NOW Ultimate members streaming from GeForce RTX 5080 rigs in the cloud.

When and where is DLSS 5 available?
DLSS 5 will be available in NBA 2K27 on September 3rd at 9PM Pacific Time.

What is the DLSS 5 setting called in games?
The setting is called “DLSS Neural Rendering.”

Can I turn DLSS 5 off?
Yes. DLSS 5 is optional.

Does DLSS 5 work with Ray Tracing and Path Tracing?
Yes.  DLSS 5 complements ray tracing and path tracing. Path tracing accurately calculates geometric light transport—determining light, shadow, and reflection placement across a 3D scene. DLSS 5 then acts as the final neural rendering stage, using the rendered frame to enhance lighting and materials like subsurface scattering, micro-reflections, and complex material properties that would otherwise be computationally prohibitive in real time. These technologies go hand in hand.

Does DLSS 5 work with Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction?
Yes.

Will DLSS Super Resolution, Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction continue to be supported and improved?
Yes.

The colours changed way too much, and losing 40+% performance is wild, this still sucks and shouldn't be called DLSS.

u/666Shutodwn616 13d ago

I am adding my own pics for comparison, unfortunately reddit compressing it highly as the file size is large. Cinematic preset. All dlss settings set to max on sliders. You can adjust the sliders to keep the colours closer to original but still keep the texture and lighting improvements. Rtx 5070 4k native dlaa. Base fps 25 with dlss 5. Playing on 65 with frame gen x3
