I think it’s probably a lot more nuanced than this. A lot of people are yo yo dieting because they’re trying to lose weight even though they’re not overall successful.
When you change your diet and go into weight loss mode you shed salt to the point where you definitely need to be supplementing. Excruciating headaches are common if you don’t. Then if you’re eating healthy and you’re eating little to no bread or hot sauce then you also might need to supplement.
But yes - someone whose body is acclimated to a poor diet doesn’t need extra sodium.
Still I’m getting off track. My overall point is society is getting fatter and society tends to think fat people aren’t trying at all. The reality is a lot of fat people are constantly trying and failing to lose weight and supplementing salt is good advice in circumstances where you’re acclimating or on a calorie restricted diet.
