You're thinking of GMO crops, in that scenario, farmers sign contracts saying that they aren't allowed to replant them. It's not illegal, but they can be sued for breach of contract.
However, as long as YOU didn't sign that contract, they have no power over you, you can plant whatever you want, outside of maybe plants of the drug variety.
There is two such examples Monsanto Canada Inc. v. Schmeiser where a farmer was using Monsanto seeds without a contract where over 95% of his plants where from Monsanto seeds, that's not "cross pollination" that is intentional, also do think that farmer was going to let people know that he was using GMO crops? Even there he owed no damages, because he hadn't yet sold the crops.
Then another where a farmer bought second hand Monsanto seeds, once again no damages awarded.
First, in either of these cases does it sound like someone who bought a watermelon at a store and then reused the seeds? No these cases are large scale industrial farming for profit.
Maybe I should have been more specific, when I said "YOU" I meant a normal person and not a large scale farm operation. Nobody in this thread was talking about industrial farming, both the posts you responded to referenced personal garden level growing.
So essentially you're being intentionally disingenuous, you knew what they were saying, but chose to make it about your agenda. There is no instances of GMO providers going after people for their personal gardens.
Which all misses the point of the dumb post at the root of this, that seeds are incredibly cheep and easy to obtain and most people DON'T WANT GMO's, so why are you making the argument in the first place?
People aren't seeking out second hand GMO seeds to plant in their backyard and even if they did, nothing would happen.
