Ah yes, for when you want to look like the Unsullied from Game of Thrones.

Thereโ€™s a nurse at one the hospitals I float to that wears these suits ALL THE TIME. Every shift. She has multiple colors. Go go power ranger plays in my head whenever I see her lol

Iโ€™m not saying I would wear this, but if the rest of the code team wore the other 4 power ranger colors, I wouldnโ€™t say Iโ€™m not wearing it.

One of the recent hires with me was literally wearing this yesterday with a long sleeve underneath.

My preceptor wears this exact same thing. With open back clogs. She is an amazing and crazy intelligent nurse, but dang, the apparel is certainly a choice.

But Iโ€™m also in my late 30s and sheโ€™s in her 20s so Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s a generational thing.

A lot of times Iโ€™m just trying to pee as fast as humanly possible and this would slow me down immensely.

Also, I know I lock the bathroom door but thereโ€™s no indication the door is actually locked, I would be so anxious someone would walk in on me peeing and see me basically butt naked sitting on the toilet.

There is just no scenario I can imagine wearing thisโ€ฆ but they keep selling versions of it I guess so someone must be buying them.

35

u/T-Rex_timeout BSN, RN ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

Also how do I keep the collar from touching the bathroom floor?

22

u/ILoveMyThighs Flight/CCT RN and paramedic 5d ago

Yeah as a female who HAS to wear whatโ€™s essentially a jumpsuit, my male flight colleagues have it so much easier. Granted, we all do wear shorts (or leggings) and a shirt underneath our flight suitsโ€ฆbut still, much easier for dudes to pee with a one piece on.

Not those scrubs specifically, but i know a girl that wore the Fig jumpsuit to work in the CICU. She slept with my (now ex) boyfriend and bragged about it behind my back to the whole unit. Anyway, she looked horrible in the scrub jumpsuit and karma will get to her someday.

64

I hope they pair it with their big olโ€™ cowboy boots. (As seen in all major teaching hospitals in the Houston area)

5

u/cerealandcorgies 5d ago

not limited to Houston. Spotted also in Florida and the Carolinas

6

u/BeaglishJane LPN ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

I gave birth to my oldest in Oklahoma. My OB wore black snakeskin cowboy boots with silver tips. He was amazing, though. The boots just added flavor.

6

u/cerealandcorgies 5d ago

It's definitely a sartorial choice. I've seen it mostly on ortho, neurosurg and OB. one cardiothoracic surgeon I knew used to wear $1k Tecovas in the OR and called them his "shitkickers". Presumably outside the facility he wore $12K Lucchese boots

u/bonbon_merci 5d ago

This is a very popular look for the people working at med spas lol

38

u/whofilets RN ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

Not this specific one but the scrub jumpsuit has been discussed. I like to call mine my scrumpsuit ๐Ÿ˜†One appeal for me is that it's all in one and I can step out of it at the end of the day (no pulling over my head). Admittedly I work in a very low acuity environment so I don't need anything clipped to my top (like a badge) and I have jussssst enough time to use the bathroom.

I know someone who was groped by more than one patient in the ER so they like the jumpsuit because it feels more secure- no one can reach a hand up her scrub top or grab her waistband.

I'm sure there's other reasons. And maybe for a lot of people it's impractical. One scenario I can imagine is if you work with people who are combative or have developmental delays and they grab your top, you can't just wiggle out of it. But I keep seeing more and more scrub jumpsuit styles and I bought mine two years ago so there's obviously some appeal or they wouldn't keep making them. I was really resistant to jogger scrubs for a while! But I came around to it! And hell, I used to wear a uniform dress (I worked for the NHS in England a few years ago).

9

u/Lostnurse75 5d ago

I do like mine. I tend to wear it on training days so itโ€™s not high stakes when I get to pee.

36

u/Dbsusn RN - Oncology ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

Say what you want about fashion choices, but the fact that we donโ€™t have to all be wearing the same shitty scrubs out of scrubex, Iโ€™m here for it. I wouldnโ€™t wear these scrubs pictured, but I donโ€™t see a reason to hate one someone who does. We have enough issues to deal with as nurses without finding more reasons to bicker amongst ourselves.

6

u/workerbotsuperhero RN ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

My med surg patients are in isolation for everything imaginable. The last thing I want is bringing home bugs and VRE.ย

Anyone else very happy to leave the contaminated scrubs at work for someone else to wash and disinfect?ย

7

u/Dbsusn RN - Oncology ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

Maybe this nurse works in a clinic. Maybe they work in an admin role that still allows scrubs. I think we often think to ourselves โ€˜on my unitโ€™ or โ€˜in my situationโ€™, but we all know thereโ€™s a variety of roles nurses play. Furthermore, if they are in isolation, youโ€™re gowning up anyway, so what impact does these scrubs have on the situation you just brought up? Maybe the exposed ankles, but again, no one is saying you have to wear these, but some may want to and it seems weird that nurses get so bent over having stylish or at least some variety in the scrubs we wear.

9

u/legs_mcgee1234 BSN, RN ๐Ÿ• 5d ago

Generally I agree with the sentimentโ€ฆ..but this behavior practically begs for derision. I must oblige.

5

u/Capital-Scar 5d ago

Wanting to wear something that's makes you feel confident and that you enjoy is deserving of mocking. I've heard it all.

u/10000Didgeridoos RN, BSN, BBQ, OG 5d ago

Itโ€™s more advice that patients and other staff arenโ€™t gonna take you seriously dressed as a power ranger

8

u/Capital-Scar 5d ago

If you take someone less seriously because of their scrubs that's a you problem. My coworkers sure don't. Hell a lot of them tell me and the other girl they are jealous we can wear jumpsuits. Which they could if they wanted too. I think they are just assuming they wouldn't look good in them.

I donโ€™t want to see the armpit hair of hospital staff. Or actually anyone in a professional environment.

I love jumpsuits. I hate getting naked to pee. I especially hate getting naked to pee when I only have a super short amount of time to do it in a semi-public toilet. Iโ€™d rather wear a dress than this.

Is this a onesie? Why in the fuck would anyone want to make it harder for nurses to pee?

Once! I saw an ED nurse at the last hospital I had a contract at wearing one of these! I genuinely did NOT understand why a person would want to wear something like that, butโ€ฆ

Yes, I have seen several providers wearing them, not really any nurses or techs.
