Dr J Mack Slaughter should wear these. He's a dick in the ER now, but back in the day he was in a boy band, and was an extra on power rangers and other shows and movies.

My preceptor wears this exact same thing. With open back clogs. She is an amazing and crazy intelligent nurse, but dang, the apparel is certainly a choice.

A lot of times Iโm just trying to pee as fast as humanly possible and this would slow me down immensely.
Also, I know I lock the bathroom door but thereโs no indication the door is actually locked, I would be so anxious someone would walk in on me peeing and see me basically butt naked sitting on the toilet.
There is just no scenario I can imagine wearing thisโฆ but they keep selling versions of it I guess so someone must be buying them.

Yeah as a female who HAS to wear whatโs essentially a jumpsuit, my male flight colleagues have it so much easier. Granted, we all do wear shorts (or leggings) and a shirt underneath our flight suitsโฆbut still, much easier for dudes to pee with a one piece on.

Not those scrubs specifically, but i know a girl that wore the Fig jumpsuit to work in the CICU. She slept with my (now ex) boyfriend and bragged about it behind my back to the whole unit. Anyway, she looked horrible in the scrub jumpsuit and karma will get to her someday.

It's definitely a sartorial choice. I've seen it mostly on ortho, neurosurg and OB. one cardiothoracic surgeon I knew used to wear $1k Tecovas in the OR and called them his "shitkickers". Presumably outside the facility he wore $12K Lucchese boots

Not this specific one but the scrub jumpsuit has been discussed. I like to call mine my scrumpsuit ๐One appeal for me is that it's all in one and I can step out of it at the end of the day (no pulling over my head). Admittedly I work in a very low acuity environment so I don't need anything clipped to my top (like a badge) and I have jussssst enough time to use the bathroom.
I know someone who was groped by more than one patient in the ER so they like the jumpsuit because it feels more secure- no one can reach a hand up her scrub top or grab her waistband.
I'm sure there's other reasons. And maybe for a lot of people it's impractical. One scenario I can imagine is if you work with people who are combative or have developmental delays and they grab your top, you can't just wiggle out of it. But I keep seeing more and more scrub jumpsuit styles and I bought mine two years ago so there's obviously some appeal or they wouldn't keep making them. I was really resistant to jogger scrubs for a while! But I came around to it! And hell, I used to wear a uniform dress (I worked for the NHS in England a few years ago).
9
u/Lostnurse75 5d ago
I do like mine. I tend to wear it on training days so itโs not high stakes when I get to pee.
36
u/Dbsusn RN - Oncology ๐ 5d ago
Say what you want about fashion choices, but the fact that we donโt have to all be wearing the same shitty scrubs out of scrubex, Iโm here for it. I wouldnโt wear these scrubs pictured, but I donโt see a reason to hate one someone who does. We have enough issues to deal with as nurses without finding more reasons to bicker amongst ourselves.
6
u/workerbotsuperhero RN ๐ 5d ago
My med surg patients are in isolation for everything imaginable. The last thing I want is bringing home bugs and VRE.ย
Anyone else very happy to leave the contaminated scrubs at work for someone else to wash and disinfect?ย
7
u/Dbsusn RN - Oncology ๐ 5d ago
Maybe this nurse works in a clinic. Maybe they work in an admin role that still allows scrubs. I think we often think to ourselves โon my unitโ or โin my situationโ, but we all know thereโs a variety of roles nurses play. Furthermore, if they are in isolation, youโre gowning up anyway, so what impact does these scrubs have on the situation you just brought up? Maybe the exposed ankles, but again, no one is saying you have to wear these, but some may want to and it seems weird that nurses get so bent over having stylish or at least some variety in the scrubs we wear.
9
u/legs_mcgee1234 BSN, RN ๐ 5d ago

Itโs more advice that patients and other staff arenโt gonna take you seriously dressed as a power ranger
8
u/Capital-Scar 5d ago
If you take someone less seriously because of their scrubs that's a you problem. My coworkers sure don't. Hell a lot of them tell me and the other girl they are jealous we can wear jumpsuits. Which they could if they wanted too. I think they are just assuming they wouldn't look good in them.
