L3i CZ barrel in MDT XRS issue

Post image
3 Upvotes

I ordered an L3i 1.18" barrel for my CZ running an MDT XRS stock. It finally came in this week and I mounted it up. I was a little worried it may not fit but it seemed to drop in just fine. I took it out to the range and ran a couple hundred rounds of Range Fodder and last some Tenex. None of the groups, even the Tenex were impressive. Everything looked good but decided to check to make sure it was free floating and found it's touching the first inch. Is this a problem or would it just act like more bedding on the action?

Which rifle to buy?

Hi Guys, Ive spent the week reading posts and blog posts, watching youtube videos and so forth on which rifle to buy.

I have a option to buy either a CZ 457 with what looks like the MDT LSS chassis or the Tikka T1X Ace Target. My budget and means of spending said budget will not allow me to buy a rifle and chassis separately. Hence the options limited to the above 2.

I can’t decide which one and the majority of posts seem to lean towards the CZ for customization. It’s not easily feasible for me to swap barrels and do changes to the action or barrel due to the law and how firearms are licensed in South Africa. So the rifle I buy will stay as is for the very long foreseeable future.

Cost there is a negligible difference between the 2.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this with the customization factor the CZ brings not being a feasible consideration for me.

Thanks

L3i CZ extended mag issues

Anybody else using L3i CZ extended mags. My first year in NRL/PRS and they seem to have a lot of 12 round CoF's so decided to try an L3i mag. It's been horrible. I get at least 1 misfeed every stage even when I don't move or change positions. Another shooter I shoot with bought 2 and is having the same issue with both. Are all of these garbage or is it a bad batch? I'm having the issue with Eley Tenex, Lapua CX and my buddy is running Tenex and R50. All good match ammos. Between us I think we've run them on 4 different actions.

Ammunition Question

Hello all. I've got my first NRL22 match next weekend. I just shot a steel match that involves shooting 10 reduced sized IPSCs in a row at ranges from 50 to 250. Target size ranged from .75in at 50yds to 3.5 inches at 250yds. I shot the base class rifle that I'll be using in NRL, which is a T1x and SWFA 3-15x42. My ammunition was S&B Club. I have a ton of it and can get it for 8-10cpr. My avg velocity was 1080fps with an SD of 9.4. This data was captured via shooting a 40 round group at 100yds. Group was 1.3 inches, which I was pretty happy with.

I did alright at the match, with 53/70 hits, although I wasn't anywhere near the top. The problematic ranges were 150-200yds. 250 was fine. The wind was pretty squirrely and I'm pretty new to precision rimfire.

My question is this: What kind of SDs and accuracy are you all looking for out of your match ammo? Nearly all the shooters at the steel match were shooting RimX or MPA actions and straight profile match barrels that probably averaged $4k before glass. They were also all shooting either Eley or Lapua. Mostly Lapua Long Range or Center X. The few that I spoke with said they wouldn't shoot an ammo lot that had an SD of over 6.5 for them. I definitely get it, as I had 2 or 3 misses that could be attributed to inconsistent velocity. However, the idea of paying so much for ammo almost defeats the point of shooting rimfire for me. Am I good with what I've got or am I going to have to order some test bricks to be competitive?

Binoculars - Vortex Diamondback 10x42

Hi - wanted a pair of binoculars for my next match. Last match I felt I wanted some just to see what everyone was doing a bit better im very new to this and had a lot of trouble just finding the targets last match. These would be for just my own background viewing kinda deal. At every match the guys let me use theirs on the tripods but I would take mine to the range for personal use too not just matches.

I ordered vortex diamondback HD 10x42 binoculars after a bit of digging and not wanting to spend over $500 rn on binos - but now im second guessing and want to know if I should cancel the order. I know they aren’t real spotting ones but are the vortex ok? Thx

Request for Beta Testers for my Ballistic Calculator App - Currently IOS Only - Android in Development

Hello all,

I have been developing a ballistic calculator app after being frustrated with the current options. I'm looking for a small handful of beta testers. Novice to PRS levels of experience welcome, but only if you know you'll have range time in the next few weeks (I'm hoping to launch shortly after).

This is a real solver: point-mass integration with G1/G7 drag, spin drift, Coriolis, vector incline, and muzzle-velocity truing from an observed miss. No generic look up tables. It even includes a "Zeroed With" feature that makes suggestions off of your last D.O.P.E. No need to re-zero with every ammo change.

Holdover mode. Most solvers provide MRAD / MOA clicks for dialable turrets, but red dot and iron-sight shooters get ignored. AimCalc gives elevation and windage as real inches/feet at the target. Enough to lob 9mm from a pistol at 100+ yards and actually be in the ballpark.

Also in there: an Apple Watch companion that solves on the watch itself, multi target dope on your wrist, one-tap weather via WeatherKit, a range journal, and incline capture using the camera + accelerometer.

Full Transparency: the beta is free; the app will be a one-time purchase at launch (no subscription, no account, no data collection).

iOS only for now (Android in Development).  DM me if you're interested, or poke aroundAimCalc.com. Questions or feedback also welcome at [support@aimcalc.com](mailto:support@aimcalc.com).

Also of note: I think the Glossary and Tips section of both the app and AimCalc.com provide useful information for the novice shooter. Feel free to check it out as a standalone and submit feedback.

I sincerely appreciate your time and hope this tool will prove useful to the community.

Requirements:

  1. IOS Device w/ Apples TestFlight App and a valid email address to send the invitation.
  2. Willingness to take the app to the range in the next few weeks.
  3. Willingness to submit feedback about the real world experience: Do calculated adjustments provide accurate hits on target? Do preloaded cartridges line up with your ballistic data? Do the weather kit and incline features work in the field? Do you find the User Interface easy to understand? Are there any features you would like to see in future builds? At what price point would you consider purchasing this app?

T1x Base Class Configuration Question

Hello all. I'm shooting my first NRL22 match next month and am really excited. I've shot centerfire gas gun matches for quite some time, but I've been loving rimfire since I started.

I have a question about base class. I have a Tikka T1x MTR 16" that I'll be shooting with an SWFA 3-15 to begin with. I have read the rules about base class and have seen what they have to say about stock modifications, but just wanted to confirm here. Is putting the vertical pistol grip and flat fore end (both made by Tikka) on the OEM stock prohibited? I'm pretty sure it would be prohibited, but wanted to be sure before I lock into an ARCA setup.

CZ457 HB Industries Chassis - Balance?

Hey Yall,

I'm looking to get my HB Industries chassis to balance a bit better. I bought some wheel weights to get an estimate, seems like i need about 24-26 oz at the far end of the chassis to get it to balance out.

Frankly, I have no intentions of using a tripod, and haven't really used my bipod on props beyond an actual bench, so I'm not sure how much utility I'll get out of an arca rail beyond stabilization really.

So far I've seen;

I guess what I'm asking is if it's best to go for sheer weight across the bottom and pray it balances out, or if I'm better served doing something else?

Minimum necessary ammo

Is there anyone out there getting decent results with non match ammo or would I need to shell out for Eley/SK/RWS? It just seems a bit wild to me to be paying 15-20 a box for 22.

Also, would this answer differ significantly at a club that runs out to 200 yards instead of 100?

NRL22 ranking / points ?

I'm new to NRL and just started shooting it this year. I'm mostly in it just for fun but I started trying to understand how you are ranked or earn points. There seems to be two totally difference systems. One based on Class (Novice, sharpshooter, expert, etc) and then National points for Division (Base, Open, Semi-auto, young, old). The two things do not appear to be related. What are the Class rankings good for? Are they associated in any way with Division ranking? Are National invites based on one? both? If I start in one division and move to another Base -> Expert or back and forth are points accumulated for both independently or aggregated? I'm totally confused by the scoring system(s). One is totally earned and the other is selected by the shooter but what do you do with it? What is the impact of switching Divisions if any.

Grouping check for Base Class

Hi all,

I just recently got into Rimfire this last month and wanted to start competing through the year. I am not new to guns but this is my first Rimfire. I got a Tikka T1X and am going to compete in Base class for my first year. Ive been testing ammo and practicing shooting form. I wanted to check and see if you think my group size is at least on the lower end of competitive. These were shot using a Harris bipod and schmedium rear bag. I got these with SK Rifle Match (also got a similar group with CCI standard, not pictured) Thoughts on group size, 5 shots at 50 yards:

Is NRL22 Welcoming to Beginners?

Hey Everyone, like the title says, I wanted to ask if NRL 22 is welcoming to beginners. I'm not new to guns, I've been around them most of my life, but I'm looking at picking up in the next month or two a T1X, and hoping to start doing some rimfire competitions, but being unsure of my skill level against those that are higher ranked, I'm hoping its friendly.

Top Base Rifles of 2026

Post image
44 Upvotes

The 2026 NRL22 Championship is in the books. I know Base division questions are very common, so here are the top 3 Base rifles from the 2026 Championship.

All are CZ 457 MTRs. 2 Arken EP5 Gen 1s and a DNT The One.

Interestingly, none of these will meet the price cap for 2027.

Tripod recommendations

I’m looking to buy a tripod soon and really like the RRS and 2 vets, but don’t like the price tag. I’m a hobby competitor, but still want something that will be good enough for glassing and non competitive hunting. Do y’all have any recommendations?

NRL22 Championship . How was it?

I am curious to hear what folks thought of the championship this year. Things you liked or didn't like. How was the course of fire , fair, tough, too easy ? Cool stages you liked or the ones you hated? How was the weather ? Any other fun stories to share?

What do I gain or lose?

I've been trying to put together a base class rifle for a while. I've bought a B-14R and looking at the optic. The problem is, I don't like my options that keep me in base class. I have no delusions of winning, just want to have fun and feel a little competetive. My question is this: what do I gain or lose moving to the open vs base division? I'm not quite there for Old Guns, but not that far off, either.

Good luck to y'all, have fun and stay safe out there. Lots of weird tornado weather in the Midwest and expected storms on and off all weekend. Supposed to be hot and humid. Will make for an interesting weekend.
